I threw wool blocks, blue and gray wools bounce again and again, and light gray one runs over 15 blocks away. All of blocks are thrown (by Q key) from same point,.
Not limited to the top of the stairs either. I discovered it when trying to convey items under stairs with water currents. Described in detail in duplicate: MC-3572 Items and stairs buggy collision
I also noticed this happens for every block actually, but just very slightly. This affects only for a frame but doesn't make any difference for the actual position of the item
This bug is so awesome! I love watching the items bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, BOUNCE! 😃 There should be something that achieves this affect legitimately.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
I think this would be a neat feature to add, because it adds the possibility of easier item transportation. There is a few "balancing" points to this bug already.
1. The item eventually loses momentum and stops 2. The item's angle matters, if it has the wrong angle it hits the edge and stops.
These two things make it harder to use item sewers, but allows drop transfer without lowering the destination height. I have made a few contraptions taking advantage of this bug, and working around the "balances." It took a huge system to align drops in the center of the stairs, and start their velocity off right, as well as a tricky water system inside pipes I made.
My opinion on this bug is that it should be turned into a feature, because I think it would make for some interesting and creative contraptions.
If this was to become a feature, I also propose a third balance that would only enable this bounce condition for sets of two stairs with their low end facing each other. Creating a channel-like block arrangement. I know this would probably be difficult because the bug likely relates to collision, and conditional collision is a tricky concept. Oh well, its just my thoughts on this bug. I hope it becomes a feature! 😃
@Jesper In what sense do you mean "angle"? They obviously have angle of direction, which was what I spoke of in my previous comments. As for their collision box having rotation, I do not think so.
I know that this was atleast intentionally introduced for stairs to prevent Items from getting stuck in them. (If the stairs were used to create floor patterns)
Galaxy_2alex, I did not think there was a 1.9 already. If you did not notice, I am reffering to the 1.8 prerelease that came out today. What was happened for me is if i throw an item into a stairway it seems to get pushed down the stairs well past the point where it should have landed.
I have same issue in MC 1.4.3 pre.
