Hi, I've got video of the issue. (This is XB1, version 1.2.2.3) It seems to start happening when you have 10 full shulker boxes in the inventory, and reaches an unplayable level once you've filled your inventory. Here's the link; https://youtu.be/ACBCWukGtK0

I've notice this too, but have Enchanted items tools weapons armor books in shulker boxes is far worse

still an issue

I can get it to lag with just one named shulker box filled with named and non named items.

This is still an issue. I have a bunch of shulker boxes in an ender chest, and as long as the shulker boxes stay in the ender chest the game runs smoothly, but as soon as i take one out, the game starts to lag.
I'm on Xbox One beta 1.5.0.4

I found out why it happens. It's related to the recipe book. Closing it fixed my lag instantly

Still happening in 1.6.1 Windows 10 and Xbox editions for sure.
Could those experiencing the issue add any more information about any specific items that are causing the lag to occur? Thanks for the comment about the recipe book too, I'll make sure that is also tested.

Fixed in 1.8.0.8

Still present in 1.8.1 Windows 10. Lag happens whenever opening an inventory (for example personal inventory and crafting bench) that will also show the recipe book. Not having the recipe book opened or opening an inventory that doesn't show the recipe book (chest/enderchest/shulkerbox) will prevent lag from happening.
The type of stuff inside the shulkerboxes or the amount of shulkerboxes in your inventory doesn't seem to affect the amount of lag experienced; the amount of stuff inside the boxes does.

Experiencing this in 1.8.1 on Xbox One S.

We have experienced this issue in 1.8.1 on Xbox One and the lag is more significant during a multiplayer split screen session. In addition to the comments by Coen above which are spot on, the lag occurs when moving items around within the personal inventory each time a pickup or placement of an item occurs. Also during a split screen session the other user experiences a slight freeze during these open/close of personal inventory or pickup/place of items within inventory.

Made a video trying to explain the issue; whilst confirming it's still present in 1.9.0.

Just a reminder to the devs, this isn’t only related to shulker boxes in the current 1.10.0.4 Beta, as it also relates to enchanted items in the inventory as well, still causing lag spikes when opening the inventory, moving items, and crafting.

If two people open inventory on the Nintendo Switch in split-screen mode at the same time, the frame-rate drops to about 2 fps, and the dragging of inventories together becomes at times completely impossible — the pointer lagging or even stopping. At times the framerate will only drop a little, but the dragging is slowed to a crawl even while other things can be seen going on in the background at full FPS speed outside of the inventory.

It seems in windows 10 that it’s exactly what Coen says the more you have in yr shulker box the slower it gets when in yr inventory especially when actually moving the box into different slots

I have experienced it onXbox One because of the shulker blocks in my inventory

I have this issue on a pretty beefy Windows 10 PC also, although apparently not as severely as other platforms. If I have a filled shulker box in my inventory, I get about a 1-second stutter when opening my inventory. The delay goes up about half a second for each additional filled shulker box I add to my inventory. Empty shulker boxes cause little to no delay when opening my inventory.
I didn't start using shulker boxes until 1.9 or maybe late 1.8, and the issue is still present as of the 1.10 update. I primarily play on a Bedrock Dedicated Server (installed on an Ubuntu 18.04 Server running on Hyper-V, with ample resources), but was able to duplicate this issue on a local world on my Windows 10 PC as well. On the BDS, I have about 10 enchanted items (including worn armor) in my inventory at any given time, but don't have any inventory delays with those items alone.
I can't pretend to know a thing about the coding, but it seems like the client is enumerating the contents of each shulker box every time the inventory is opened, and possibly also generating the inventory icon for each item. I sincerely hope the latter is not true, as we can only see a truncated text list of the contents. Also, a shulker box is not as dynamic as the inventory, in that its contents can't be updated while in our inventory - unless I am unaware of some mechanic? By that logic, would it make more sense for the last known contents of a shulker box to be displayed on mouseover, and not analyzed every single time we open the inventory? And then only update the shulker box when it's placed and we actually open it (or whatever logic is used for regular chests, which open with no delay)?
I'll be happy to provide any additional info if desired. Thanks.

Has been present since 1.8 at least indeed, intensified in the latest 1.10 release. Only one filled shulkerbox now already is capable of making computers cry.

The recipe book hotfix still works in the 1.10/1.11 update, although worse due to introduced lag from the 1.10 update, for anybody having this problem

This is still a huge problem on Xbox One X, beta versions 1.11.0.1, 1.11.0.3, 1.11.0.4, 1.11.0.5 and 1.11.0.7

Another remark: as of 1.10, the lag no longer seems to be avoidable by closing the crafting book.

I'm on a pretty powerful PC (though I don't think hardware is relevant to this particular bug) , and inventory lag is quite extreme if holding shulker boxes. Interestingly enough, this bug does not occur and there is zero lag when managing my inventory through right clicking a chest, shulker box, etc. However, when I open my inventory normally or a crafting table, I get incredible stuttering.
So a temporary work around I've been using is to just keep a chest or one of the shulker boxes themselves handy in your hotbar, then place it down and open it to move things around. As tedious as this sounds, it is much faster than going through constant stuttering.

Still a problem on Windows 10 edition, using i7 8700k + 1060 sc (6gb)

I can confirm the bug has been resolved in the 1.11.0.8 beta (at least for my hardware). Loading 2/3 of the shulkers from my enderchest into my inventory gives no to very little (unnoticeable) lag when opening inventory/crafting bench with crafting book opened. Hope it will hit the release soon.

They fixed this in todays beta 1.11.0.8
As this is fixed in the 1.11 beta, we will leave this ticket open as a point of reference until the fix is fully released across all platforms.

Definately not fixed on Bedrock edition.
Specs:
i7-7700
GTX 1060
16GB Ram
More than enough to handle 2 Shulker Boxes but my inventory stutters like mad when they are inventory. It's crazy bad.

As stated before, the issue has been fixed in the beta version 1.11 (1.11.0.8+). This is different from the stable version, which - at the time of writing - is still 1.10(.1). In the future please don't forget to mention the version in which you found the bug.
Leaving this ticket open and updating affected versions as the FPS can still drop a fair amount when opening the inventory if there are a few filled shulker boxes present.
Some further improvements have been made in this area in 1.12.0.9.
Thank you for your report!
However, this issue has been temporarily closed as Awaiting Response

I am not able to reproduce this in 1.14.60 on my iPhone 8, with 15 full shulker boxes in my inventory. Both player movement and crafting table use work normally.

I am still able to reproduce this in 1.16.0.64 Beta.

Affects 1.16.101 Hotfix

This is not happening to me in 1.16.201

affects shulker boxes of axolotls (axolotls need to be wild harvested, not from creative menu). If you have many shulkers full, inventory lag can get very very extreme

This is still an issue as of 1.17.11

Still in issue in 1.17.30 on xbox series x and on a realm (Idk about singleplayer). When I was looking through my Ender chest full of shulker boxes and those shulker boxes are also full. There so major lag moving those shulkers around the Ender chest.

the bug also affects bee hives that have bees in them. So the bug affects shulker boxes and bee hives.

affects 1.18.12

when shift clicking it does not create lag

Affects 1.19.10

I only experience this when the shulker box contains the specific mob spawn items: Beehive and Bucket of Aquatic Mob. There is no lag for a full shulker of empty Beehives or Buckets of Tropical fish that have not been spawned (from Wandering Trader). There is a ton of lag when opening or holding a full shulker of full Beehives (3 bees and Honey level 5) or placed/caught Buckets of Tropical Fish with a descriptive name (e.g. 'Gray-Red Snooper'). The lag increases based on the number of items contained.

This affects all items with NBT.

Affects 1.19.30 (lag occurs while dragging a shulker box with caught Buckets of Tropical Fish).

I can confirm that this issue is still present in 1.20.12

i can confirm that this is still present in 1.21.0.03, Bedrock Edition.

I also experience this intense lag when I break shulker boxes. Doesn't happen every single time but quite a bit. Don't think it matters what contents are inside.

The lag only happens to me with bee hives specifically. I can move an entire inventory full of shulkers from other objects without problem. I also have no problem running as in the video example here, only when opening an interface where the shulkers are contained
