Fixed, thanks.

Cannot confirm for boats in 43b.
Can confirm for minecarts in 43b.

I agree with Bob. Boats seem to work fine but minecarts still have this issue.

Affects 15w43b.

Affects 15w43c. Multiplayer

Could someone fix the description? It just refers to boats, when in fact it seems to be only a minecart issue at this point.

Confirming this bug in 15w43c in minecarts.
Seems like when in a minecart you stop to load chunks and get stuck in the chunk limit. You need re-start the game.
A important thing. Even without the player, the cart stop in the chunk limit. I cant record this, but the cart just get stuck in the same place when i get stuck.
PS: The cart itself have some bug too, instead you slow pushing the cart, inside the cart, like previous versions, you need, outside of the cart, push it, get momentum, and go inside to the cart to get some speed. If you try move the cart stopped, with you inside, the cart dont move.
Using Java SE 8 Update 66 64 bit / Windows 7 64bit here. (not exaclty from this macbook π).

Confirmed for 15w44a.

Also confirmed for 15w44b.

Can you assign the job to someone else, according to recent infos, dinnerbone isn't working on Minecraft anymore for awhile after today, so if we want to see it resolved, we better transfer it to someone that will see it, otherwise we may have a 1.9 final release with that bug still in it.

We only assign tickets if specifically instructed. We don't want to deassign it from Dinnerbone as other developers might still look at his assigned open tickets in search of important bugs to fix for 1.9.

This is also happening in the Nether. I figured you might want to update the environment to read Overworld / Ocean / Nether . π

Also note that the chunks ARE server-side as I could see hitboxes of blocks as well as a beacon beam in the unloaded chunks. However I could not test further due to MC-91766.

Still an issue in 15w45a

Confirming for 15w45a, too. Also, unloaded/un-rendered chunks remain unloaded/un-rendered even after debug chunk reloading (F3 + a). Affected chunks do load and render almost immediately upon dismounting from horse.

Playing 15w45a
Just happened to me while bringing a donkey home through the desert. The chunks will load if I get off the donkey, or exit and reopen the world, though that dismounts me for some reason. Pressing F3+A doesn't load new chinks while riding

Just thought i'd throw in my two cents that this is still happening with minecarts too in 45a. its a major pita!

Yes, it seems to be an issue with the new tags used to see if an entity is being ridden (from the boat changes). The code (probably) had a check to see if a player is riding the entity, and if so, load chunks as if the ridden entity was the player, but that code (probably) isn't checking the new tag. That means that ANY method of transportation that uses a second entity (boats, minecarts, horses, presumably pigs (the code change also broke the carrot-on-a-stick)) is broken right now.

I haven't tried pigs or carts, but boats are loading chunks fine.

what about if you are a passenger in a boat? I seem to remember my friend complaining about chunks not loading when he was riding in my boat at one point.

Might have a point there, the only passenger I've had is a squid I tried to run over...

Well, the passenger thing might explain the trouble in minecarts or on horses also.... Confirmed chunks not loading beyond initial view distance.

I don't know if this is relevant, but my world seems to have acquired .mcr files in addition to the .mca files for the regions where I have observed this bug.

I can confirm that this is still an issue in 15w45a

Still an issue in 15w45a. Once encountering the unloaded chunk, essentially everything freezes except for the minecart sound if you're in one. None of the buttons work unless you disconnect and reconnect.

it also affects riding pigs. they do not move, even you have a carrot_on_a_stick in your hand while sitting on them.

This is MC-90192

Confirmed for 15w45a. My sister and I were playing over LAN and found some donkeys. Ever since we got the donkeys, we've been struggling with this bug almost constantly, to the point where we can't play.

Confirmed on 15w45a. Interestingly, if I approach the edge of the loaded chunks, I get something like infinitely laggy block lag (can't dismount, mobs don't move, can't move, but client is responsive). (If it matters, it was on SMP and the server is tc2.techcraftmc.net.)

Confirmed in 15w46a.

Also confirming: Horses are still useless in 15w46a.

Confirming for 15w46a--still happens on minecarts, haven't tested anything else but I have noticed that for a long time now chunk updates fail to happen when you are traveling very fast, ie. sprinting in flight mode over long distances or running on a very fast horse along a smooth path with no stops or turns. Eventually you start to notice the chunks are failing to load around you, the game has partially or mostly halted updates while you move. The odd part is that using a lower render distance doesn't help as much as you'd expect. I can run 16 chunk render distance smoothly but I have to go under 6 to be able to sprint-fly indefinitely without it making me stop for chunk updates.

Confirmed in 15w47a

Not to be nitpicking but, how exactly does the bug system work? 1 week old, insignificant bugs with 2 votes get fixed right away (I understand they can be easy fixes) while a very important one like this, that exist since a good while, that crashes the game or the server, has accumulated 97 votes, is not even being looked into or assigned to anyone yet?
Minecarts have been unuseable for almost 2 months now and none of the related bugs have even been assigned yet (this one is the most important, then MC-92165 and MC-64836).
This is not to complain, it's just to understand, and to not lose my time reporting or voting for issues for nothing.

I can't tell you how Mojang work but I can tell you that voting, commenting and reporting helps a lot.

I can tell Mojang's devs are doing an amazing job at fixing bugs. It's just that I feel this is a very MAJOR issue and definitely deserves some attention. I don't understand why it doesn't.
I'll keep my fingers crossed, in hope I won't eventually have to report "still in 1.9.1". π jk

@Early Reflections
Been playing the snapshots for a few years now... sometimes a bug doesn't get fixed until the "pre" versions, but I have yet to see the devs miss a bug that I've been watching.
That's the deal with the snapshots though, is there will always be bugs, and patience is the name of the game.

It was assigned to Dinnerbone if I can remember, and since he's out of the project, he's not assigned anymore, I think we will end with a 1.9 without a fix for this bug which at this point is the most inconvenient and most annoying bug I've ever seen in a game, unusable minecarts and horses for more than 2 months already.

@Oliver Tasche, @Orion B.
Yeah I've been playing snapshots for quite a while too and I must agree with everything you said! I'm not being impatient as I do take these with a smile and acknowledge devs are doing an amazing job already. I was being curious as to how the system actually works. I was assuming the seriousness of a bug plus the number of votes would accelerate the process.
I also understand that, although the issue isn't being assigned, some other issue might get fixed and indirectly fixes this one in the process. Indirect fixes have happened quite a bit before!
I agree that most, if not all, of the issues I've been involed with in the last years have been directly or indirectly fixed, given enough time. I'm not questioning "if" it works, because it obviously does. I'm just questioning "how" it works, out of curiosity, and also to better adapt to said inner workings.
Also, I consider my english to be pretty good, but still, it's not my native language, and the way I say things can turn out being badly worded and wrongly interpreted, like sounding impatient. I sincerely apologise for that!

Confirmed still present in 15w47c (minecarts, Multiplayer)

Confirmed present in 15w47c, single player survival, minecarts. Behavior is usually in the form of you drift out into the 'empty' until the chunk pieces around you disappear. At this point, you have to quit and restart and are usually stuck 1 block down at the chunk boundary where stuff should have been loading but wasn't.

Chunks load while mounted on a horse, apparently until you leave the chunk on which you mounted the horse, then they abruptly stop loading and won't begin loading until you dismount.

I think that the game looks for players to load chunks around, and because rather than the player "riding" the horse, the horse has a "passenger", so the player isn't the 'first' entity, the game can't find the player and defaults to the last known position.

I just performed a test for what bob said. I mounted a horse, turned down the render distance and let chunks despawn, then turned it back up to a setting high enough that it took several seconds for chunks to load. I ran around on the horse while chunks were still loading. I was able to move pretty far (multiple chunks away) and watch chunks load in, however they all loaded in centered around the point where I mounted the horse, not where the horse and I actually were at the time.
bob's explanation seems plausible.

Still not fixed in 15w49a π

Confirmed for 15w49a. How many bugs are there right now that are more annoying than this? It basically takes away several features that are really important to a lot of players! I'm seriously so sick of this bug.

@moss gridley
Present issue being the most annoying, the 2nd worse is MC-92165 (near impossible to transport entities), and to a lesser degree MC-64836 (entities control minecarts, if you manage to get them in).
I'm really sick of minecarts in the current state too. I think they're important enough to be considered seriously.
142 voters isn't enough, it hasn't been assigned yet...

They have: https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/3v5np7/minecraft_snapshot_15w49a/cxlhc4m
It's on the list. It will be fixed. But we deal with our bug list in the order that works best for us. Last time I checked 1.8.8 did not have that bug and it's the current stable release of the game. Snapshots are not stable and are not meant to be playable versions of the game.

Yeah they commented on my comment. I was trying to make sure they noticed as I said in my post on Reddit. Kind of funny that they got mad at me though since I was just trying to make sure they knew this bug existed.

Confirming still broken on minecarts as of 15w49b. 49a was too crashy for me to get a reasonable test scenario going.

Still in 15w50a.
And how come did I have to revote for this issue? The tracker forgot my previous vote?
Edit: moved "complaint" part to Reddit.

From the snapshot notes:
Bugs. More bugs. They are everywhere. But more and more of them get removed every week. So here is another development snapshot that hopefully fixes more bugs than it introduces. If your βfavoriteβ bug is still not fixed in this version, do not worry. All important bugs will be fixed before we even consider releasing a final 1.9 version of the game.
As always, if you want us to look into certain bugs with higher priority, vote for the most annoying bugs on our bug tracker to draw our attention to them. We will eventually dedicate some time to look into the highest voted bugs irrespective of their severity.
Translation: Stop complaining about this bug not being fixed yet. It's on the issue list, and they'll solve it before releasing 1.9. Snapshots are expected to be buggy.

Btw if you're fixing mounts Pig riding is still broken (carrot on a stick does nothing).

Still no chunks loading while on horse in 15w50a.

It says it's fixed for next version...

This is issue is alive and well in all forms of transportation other than your feet and nether portals as I am aware. (15w50a) If you try to reload the chunks using the developer "F3+A" while riding a horse; it will not load any new chunks. Just those previously loaded. Chunks are loaded as soon as you step off of the Horse.
It was mentioned in another thread while I was looking for previous posts about this issue that when riding these entities; you're bound by their chunk updating(??)
I'm not major Java developer; but maybe switch it up so that when Horses/Pigs/Minecarts are in use by the player they're bound by the Player's chunk updating instead? Although I'm just speculating with no look at the code! Could be impossible.

Its already fixed for a future version... Can someone close this report for the time being?

Both horses and minecarts fixed for me in 15w51a.

Sonic, it was fixed in this weeks snapshot. It was still present even after the fix was supposedly applied many snaps back. Notice "Fix version(s)."
Also notice that this issue is already tagged as resolved and has been since 15w42a.
Of course it's already fixed in a future version; that would be the hope as this bug is well; game breaking. But that doesn't make the report invalid or need closing when they current (up until last week's snapshot) snapshots we're reporting bugs on have this bug.
If you don't want to get all these comments sent to you; I'm sure there's a way to unsubscribe from said alerts. It also might help if you let the topic die instead of commenting again.

I know we're not supposed to comment but to help someone here, if you don't want to follow this thread anymore (I'm going to do the same since its fixed) look on the right of the bug report there's a number of watchers, right next to it, there's an option to stop watching this bug, this will stop sending you emails about this bug report.

If this happens and you are stuck, you can escape the void by typing a /setblock command: /setblock ~ ~2 ~ minecraft:end_gateway 0 replace {ExactTeleport:1,ExitPortal:{X:0,Y:0,Z:0}}
Change the coordinates to a safe location and you should escape, as this will produce another End Gateway block immediately above you. (Try jumping if you don't immediately teleport to your set coordinates)
Please note you will need cheats enabled to be able to do this, and the horse has not been known to make it out the other side.
That is, if anyone (like me) is still experiencing the bug.

You might be experiencing a different bug in which the world loads more slowly or even stops loading while you are moving quickly. Try going into creative mode and flying around, and see if you have the same experience.
