Horses are impossible to tame: They don't buck you off and they don't become tamed when you ride them.
Tamed horses (from previous versions or summoned) can't be controlled, they don't move at all
Tamed horses don't look at the same direction as their riders
Pigs cant be controlled either using a carrot on a stick
Minecarts cannot be controlled with WASD. But powered rails, pushing or simple momentum will allow them to move just fine.

Yeah horses are broke. Can't tame wild ones, can't ride tame ones.
Can confirm.

Original report contained 5 issues:
Spawn eggs only spawn baby horses.
i couldn't ride horses that had just grown up, and if i was to relog they would be babies again.
adult horse impossible to tame: I sat on it for half an hour leaving my pc unattended and it still didnt tame or buck me off
Tamed horse couldn't be controlled
Tamed horse wouldn't move
First one I can't reproduce, second is another ticket (MC-61535), next two are legit, last one I can't reproduce, though it seems mobs are a bit slower now.

Well summarised, redstonehelper. Hope this gets fixed soon.

You can make a horse jump if it has a saddle. It still won't go forward or backwards, though.

I tried making a horse jump - it did the jump animation, but the back legs do not lift off the ground. Is it different for you?

The horse making the jumping animation but not lifting off the ground seems to be an issue for me too. While I'm naturally irritated by this bug as I am by most bugs, I am glad to see it is not just skeleton trap horses as I thought (because they were the first horses I tried to ride since the new snapshot).

Same for me. The horse doesn't leave the ground.

Can confirm. It also seems that the horses don't move when being ridden if they're tamed (Which is a normal behavior, but a bit unexpected to still happen with this bug). Tamed horses also don't look at the same direction as their riders (Which they are supposed to do).

Yup. Something happened since last week. I had three rideable horses last week and none now.

Tamed horses do move, they just don't move while they are being ridden.

Same us above, taming mechanic seems broken, unable to tame horses. Can summon tamed ones, add saddles but they will not move when mounted.

This goes for Skeleton Trap Horses as well. If one is encountered and all of the skeleton riders are defeated, you can mount any of the 4 skeleton horses and put a saddle on them but cannot control them at all.

Can confirm. Furthermore, I'm almost certain this is because of the change to Passengers vs. Riding, because of other difficulties like jockeys not working.

Can confirm. Several horses in a herd, I have tried. None buck me, on eate all my wheat. (15w41b)

Maybe not related but I am unable to move a tamed horse with the rope/lasso either.

Still an issue in 15w42a

Sadly, confirmed for 15w42a 😞

Still a problem on Mac OS X 10.11 running 15w42a

Still a problem. Fix it is needed! Probably due to the new passengers tag, due to checking the Riding tag instead of the Passengers tag, that maybe the cause of the problem. And the Riding tag is no longer used, which made the horses just stop in their tracks and do nothing, when a player comes on.

Please fix it!
😞

@Matej Dedic If you want it to be fixed, just vote on the issue.

Just to add, you cannot lead them either.

When trying to ride a tamed horse, I got kicked from the game and told 'flying is not enabled on this server' and sent back to the multiplayer 'looking for servers' screen, which is extra odd as I was playing in single player.

Confirm the same thing for SMP with an OSX client

confirmed for 15w42a

Looking at related bugs, I believe there are two issues here: the one about not being able to control ridable stuff (related to the boat/minecart bug) and not being able to tame horses (releated to the ocelot bug/villager ai bug/my not being able to breed wolves). Currently we have about 6 tickets open with most being dupes of each other, but this ticket is two bugs.

We also can't control minecarts when we are ridding it, I think it's being caused by the same bug.

Affects 15w43a

Still an issue in 15w43b

Look Above ^^^ this is the worst bug right now! and im started to stop playing minecraft until its fixed.

Although I do fully agree that this is a serious bug, it's that important that I just know it'll be fixed before 1.9 release for sure.
That being said, I'd like to point out that we are still in the SNAPSHOTS.
To sort of "threaten" to "stop playing Minecraft until it's fixed" is not helpful, overexaggerated + illogical, considering this is not a full stable version of Minecraft.
Playing in the snapshots is always risky, and they are not there for serious playing, but to find bugs, so the release version will be free of them (at least of the most important ones).
If you don't like to play in a buggy snapshot version, play Minecraft release 1.8.8 or a previous 1.9 snapshot where the riding worked with no problem, so before the change from the "Riding" to the "Passengers" tag.
I always wonder why people forget what snapshots are there for.
Regards, Meri

Dinnerbone previously mentioned they're trying to get feature complete by the end of October or so, and then doing bugfixes and such before a full release after that, there's plenty of time for them to fix it, no reason to panic. Maybe you should . . hold your horses. (I'll see myself out)

confirmed for 15w43c

Also, another note to add, you can't control a minecart you're riding with the W key.

Jacob or any mod, can you add that to the description?

@Spake Miner Seperate issue: MC-89946

Confirmed for 15w44a.

PLEASE FIX. It's broken for my server too. Confirmed for 15w44a.

You shouldn't run an active server on a snapshot, they are buggy, not stable release versions.
First they will finish implementing features, then working on the bugs.
If you don't like a buggy snapshot, play in a release version.

Hey Dinnerbone, could you at least release 15w44b where this bug is fixed as I urgently need to tame a new horse!

It's a private server. Not highly active. Just to get used to the new features and find bugs in Survival.

Still happened in 15w44a(minecart,pig,horse)

@unknown, Fix Version/s:Future Version - 1.9+ means this bug fixed (if Mojang did it right) in the next snapshot.

Did they finally fix it? YES!

Works perfectly again. Thanks a lot Dinnerbone for fixing!

Pigs still broken (carrot on a stick does nothing). Also the riding/passengers bug affects hostile creatures too, namely the chicken jockey (which had/has an invisible rider) and the spider jockey (haven't observed it myself during the bug). I haven't confirmed either jockey in 15w44b but I have seen the invisible rider chicken jockey in week 42.
EDIT: Managed to generate a chicken jockey in 15w44b. Their riders ARE visible now.

Not sure about their "invisibility", maybe just usage of the Riding instead of the Passengers' Tag (which will summon the Chicken, not the Jockey though)?
This summon command here works with no problem in 15w44b:
/summon Chicken ~ ~1 ~ {IsChickenJockey:1,Age:0,Passengers:[{id:"Zombie",IsBaby:1}]}
Same goes for SpiderJockeys:
/summon Spider ~ ~1 ~ {Passengers:[{id:"Skeleton"}]}
I didn't try to find naturally spawned Jockeys though yet, these are Jockeys by creative means.
I can confirm that using a carrot on a stick while riding a Pig doesn't do anything, it stays still - but if you descend from the Pig and hold the carrot on a stick before it, it will follow you.
Horses are working/can be ridden+jump etc.

And to be clear I meant naturally generated jockeys, and when they were broken it was definitely because they were still programmed to use rider instead of Passengers. The invisible baby zombie was still in control and could still damage you. It didn't fail to appear it just wasn't visible.
If you're wondering, to confirm they're working in 15w44b I generated them by making 10 rows of 10 command blocks with "/summon Zombie" in them. Since chicken jockeys are 1 in 400 I needed to summon 100 at a time. They're "natural" in the sense that the randomizer made them jockeys instead of regulars zombies rather than me adding tags to the summon command. I can be trusted to use Passenger instead of rider, but I needed to know if the mob generation could be trusted to do the same.

Seems that while horses and minecarts work fine, pigs don't.

You don't have to use so many commandblocks with the same command.. A simple command to get multiple "natural" Zombies suffices, takes you just few seconds.
But I can confirm that a naturally spawned ChickenJockey is visible in 15w44b, just tested it.
So it seems that the Pig is the sole remaining problem at the moment.

I've seen invisible chicken jockeys before in previous snapshots, if this still exists in the current snapshot then it should be reported as a separate issue. I can confirm this though, as a few weeks ago I was being chased by "hostile chickens" which were really invisible jockeys.

"Hostile chickens" - This made me lol };] As we all know, Chicken are evil dinosaurs to begin with ^^
Jokes aside - As I commented before, I tested the Chicken Jockeys via command as well as natural spawning, and the baby zombies riding them are not invisible (anymore) in the current snapshot.
Come to think of it, I didn't test it for the Nether/baby pigmen, but they shouldn't be invisible either.
Would be nice if someone's got the time to confirm this though, I can't currently.
Same behavior here. Untamed horses can not be tamed. Tamed horses (and saddled pigs) will not move (when ridden).
