My world hasn't worked properly since the latest update.
My world is about 3Gb, and even though I have enough storage over 100Gb,
The message "You are out of local data storage and unable to save your progress." is displayed and the game is causing a collision.
My World is also used for Bedrock Dedicated Servers, which also cause conflicts, and in this case the server software shuts down with the message that the world is corrupt.
Is this problem solvable?
My server and World have been around for more than 20 months, and there are about 250 users.
To reproduce:
Download this world: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-4a7ioMT142xC-AYRgs92VQHMMDwMsKL/view
Open the world
If it opens, you will quickly see the out of space message redirecting you to make more space by deleting stuff.
If it does not open, try again!
Observed results: You cannot play on that world despite there being space on disk for Minecraft to use
Expected results: You can play on large worlds when there is space on disk for Minecraft to use
Extra side note: If you remove a Level DB file, the world may start working again (Will cause some data loss)

If you have a copy of the world available, you might like to upload a copy of it for investigation.
On Windows 10 you can use the Export world feature.
On Android or iOS you need to use a file explorer to navigate to Device storage > games > com.mojang > minecraftWorlds
On Xbox or Switch the only way is to upload it to a Realm, and then download the world on Windows 10 or Android/iOS. (Please do not purchase a Realms subscription just to provide a world to us - but if you have a Realm already this may be a viable option if you wish to do so.)
If the world is larger than 10MB you can upload the world to OneDrive or a similar file sharing site, and then share the link.

my world is now getting the same error when venturing away from the center of my world.
Only ever had this problem on 1.13.0
My world is only around 1GB. 986MB right now. And I have around 23GB on the drive I have Minecraft installed.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/d9q17wlb5iofyv1/World%20Backup.zip?dl=0

Dito for my world on 1.13.0, although I cannot tell for other recent versions, only just revisited that world an MCPE as such, not having played for quite some time.
Playing on Windows 10 version (lots of memory and disk available):
[media]
It's quite safe to work on the ground mostly, but exploring (flying just beneath the clouds) will yield that error ca. once per minute).
Seems to me as if MCPE now cannot cope with the large amount of blocks visible then.
Update (followup-memory-issue ?):
[media][media]
1.13.1 Hotfixes have been released but the "Storage" issue has not yet been fixed. The "Storage" issue had to be corrected immediately because it causes Crash not only on its own but also on "BDS."

Confirmed, issue still exists in 1.13.1

Storage issues still exist in beta 1.14.0.52. Damn it.
Does it fix before the launch of Buzzy Bees?

Similar/related:

The bug fix is a more urgent and important issue than the new update. Even if 'Buzzy Bees' is released, many people cannot play 'Buzzy Bees' unless the 'Storage' issue is resolved. Can 'Storage' issues be amended by December 11?

Many communities are experiencing this same issue. The host will see an error indicating it is our of space, and players will see an error saying the world is corrupt.
The community seems to be in agreement that it is related to loading new chunks, which is why it happens most often while traveling long distances, like with a boat.
There is already a bug report higher up in the priority list(90 Votes+). You can help draw some attention to our problem by voting for it & adding any additional details you may have. Hopefully by consolidating and raising awareness of the one issue we all will receive a faster resolution.

Isn't this the same issue as MCPE-32501?

I just tested the latest beta version (1.15.0.53) and it is assumed that Storage Issue was fixed.
I set the rendering distance to its maximum and flew around my world at a high speed for quite a while, but there was no "storage issue."
I hope others will also test it on the latest beta and share the results.

Well, it took 6 months, but 1.14.60 fixed this issue for me. Iirc, it started with 1.12, but I can finally travel more than 1000 blocks again without a crash (and losing stuff randomly in the process or while falling into the void).

Affecting 1.16.0.57

Affected when exploding somes tnt 20x32x20, force teleport, ticking area

This may be a different bug, but it occurred to me on Xbox. This world was the first world we had on an Xbox. We played for a loong time. We stopped playing Minecraft for about a year, and then when we returned to play, the world never opened. Every time we clicked on that world, it would attempt to open, but it always crashed. After months, we tried opening the world again, and it finally worked. However, something was wrong. Terribly wrong. This is a clip of what we saw that day. https://gamerdvr.com/gamer/creepertnt745/video/114594908
You can see the info_update block among the weird structures that randomly appeared. We haven't even gone to the end yet, but there are shulker boxes everywhere! Random items are scattered across the world and tons of blocks are stacked. It wasn't shown in the video, but missing texture blocks were also in the "buildings."

this issue is happening on 1.16 on playstation. I have a world 950mb and the storage slider shows I'm only half full with a copy of the map and I have over 100gb free on my ps5 so storage is not the problem. it keeps coming up with out of storage and corruption messages. I've reduced the simulation distance down to 4 chunks rather than the default 6 which seems to have helped a bit not getting thr errors as often. also found the server came up with those messages and kicked us all out everytime one of my friends joined using one of the mini skins (I.e. star wars pack Yoda, ewok etc.) after the world coming up with that error twice in.a row when he joined he changed it back to a full size skin and was able to join?? this is very weird. why cant the world saves be limited only by how much storage space we have on our playstation?

Same this is happening to me on the PS5.
System: Playstation 5
Ps5 Free Storage Space: ~300GB
Minecraft World File Size: ~950MB
I have ONE world, this world, my only world, and no realms or texture add-ons. Nothing else. I understand there is a 2GB internal storage cap on Bedrock itself and have tried everything.
I’ve set my simulation distance to 4, render distance to the minimum, turned off every single “fancy” video toggle. I’ve even swapped the save files back to my PS4 and tried running the world on that system, but I think the 2GB cap is killing it.
Sometimes it lets me back in, but near 100% of the time it still boots with this message and if i do happen to get in, guess what? One trip to the Nether or The End? Booted.
I absolutely loved this game, but my world i've spent months on is totally lost, so I'm done with this garbage until the storage cap is lifted or there's a fix.

Affects 1.16.230.50

Astro, the link seems to not work. It just connects to the homepage of the website itself.

The same error just happened to me on the PC version (WIN 10).
Is there any solution?

@Christian portilla I fixed it myself on my phone. So you can try if you like. First go to the file where Minecraft stores all its data and remove the main file of mojang and put it somewhere else , then delete Minecraft and reinstall it. The new world you'll make after that will not be suffering the same issue but if you try and put the old worlds back in the main file it'll be back to what it was. Although you lose your world you can make a new one and play on that for a while till the issue gets resolved and then put those worlds back to the main file. Please do tell me if it was useful. Thank you.

Will this be fixed at some point?
Or should I give up and create a new world?

I can't open my 1.5gb world because apparently I don't have enough space on my Switch. I have plenty of space on my Switch. And that is my only world. I have no world templates, no resource packs. Nothing but that world, and I can't play it because.. well, I don't know why, I have more than enough space.
I love Minecraft, though I only have about 900 hours in it which is way less than most, but I worked so hard for everything I have in my current world (and it's probably only my tenth world ever, I've lost others due to moving consoles, crashes, randomly corrupt files, etc) I just don't want to play it anymore because I lost everything, again.
I'll probably make a new world when Caves&Cliffs pt. 2 comes out, but until then.. I guess I just lost heart in it for now. Unless they figure out how to fix this.

je suis sur nintendo switch et cela me le fait alors que j'ai encore 17Go d'espace libre

I have the same problem on ps4. I just paid for two maps and the system doesn’t let me download them. Fix the problem or refund the money. It is not the first time this happens.

I too am having this issue. 950MB world, 600hours of playtime….either won’t open or loads with no textures. Devastated. Have tried everything possible and so far, nothing 😞

Windows 10 Bedrock Edition. Updated recently (sometime in the past week) - playing v1.18.31 - I do not use Realms, I play from my local computer.
I back up my worlds regularly and have done so for many months. I have never had a problem with storage prior to this happening and used to have several worlds including back ups.
I received an error when playing: "You are out of data storage and Minecraft is unable to save your progress." I did not receive any indication that I was nearly out of space.
I gave taken the following steps:
Read up on what to do and followed the directions at https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/4409165790605-Managing-Data-and-Game-Storage-in-Minecraft-
Deleted a number of files and I now have less than 3GB in total storage.
Checked my drivers for any updates and updated as necessary.
*Checked Windows for any updates and updated.
*Checked Minecraft for any updates - none required.
*Rebooted my computer.
Requested assistance from Microsoft Community XBox Gaming and they suggested I contact the game developers.
ISSUE:
I can no longer save my progress (error message: "You are out of data storage and Minecraft is unable to save your progress.")
I can no longer create a copy of my world (error message: "We could not create a copy of this world because of lack of space etc.)
I can no longer access my back up world as it says, error message: "There was a problem loading this world."
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

I have been experiencing this exact issue (Bedrock v 1.18.31 on PS4) but was able to work around it until yesterday. My world reached 1 GB in size and now I can't play anymore - "There was a problem loading this world". I've tried everything - downloaded previous saves from cloud and USB, reinstalled Minecraft, etc. etc. I can't believe years of work is just...gone? I'm not starting over, if this is truly lost then how do we know this won't happen again? I was really championing and looking forward to the 1.19 update as well. Whether it is an issue of complexity or priority, this has been unresolved for so long I'm losing faith this can or will be fixed? Hundreds of hours...just....catastrophic disappointment.

I was advised, by minecraft support, to use this as a way to have my issue resolved but do these even get read?
Reading through all these similar issues it would appear that many have been "resolved" without any tangible resolutions. It also appears that this has been an ongoing issue for years without any clear or tangible resolutions.
So simply put I think Ori1666 got it right ...just....catastrophic disappointment

Having exact same issue on PS5. So far the only way I can still access my world is by uploading saved world data to PSN cloud and deleting said world from local storage and then downloading it back to local storage on the system which is just great experience overall 10/10 would totally recommend... Also this doesn't always work so I keep trying it until it works, sometimes I delete all saved data of Minecraft that is in local storage...

I’m getting the exact same issue here on PS5. I’ve noticed that it’s mostly commonly on PS4/PS5 and usually occurs when the world hits ~953.1 MB (I’ve seen this exact number used in several instances).
I can still access the world sometimes and walk around, but once I make one change to the world (e.g. placing a single block), it’s unable to save these changes, and boots me off with the “out of data storage space” error.
I don’t see how this isn’t a priority for them to fix immediately. It quite literally makes the game unplayable. This report was opened 3 years ago. For those of you with this same issue, hang in there. It’s going to be a long time coming, if ever.

Hit this error yesterday at the exact same data size 953.1. Using PS5 with an external drive of 4T so I have plenty of space to use. The world me and my brother have been playing on for over a year now is unloadable.
I cleared everything I could, deleted unused worlds. Uploaded to PSN cloud, deleted everything including the game and downloaded everything again just to have the same error message.

The only workaround I could find for this is turning the world into a Realm. I honestly believe this is the only way to get around this error until they patch it. Another plus is that you, and anyone you invite to the Realm, can download the world at anytime. So if you don’t plan on renewing your Realms subscription and have Minecraft Bedrock edition on any other platforms, I suggest you login with the same account, click on the realm, and download the world (before it expires so you have as much progress saved). If you don’t, then have one of your friends do it!

Same issue.. I’m on latest update on playstation. My corruption started with 1.18.30 and also on 1.18.32 please fix.. this ticket should be updated to latest version. Since it’s unresolved..

Issue remains in 1.19 release...

This hasn't been resolved.

Happend like 20 times since I updated to 1.19. Has happened before 1.19 but not as frequently. The issue appears usually when I play on chunks that were previously loaded (like my base) and not while exploring new chunks. I play on Nintendo switch with world sizes between 200 and 300 mb and Minecraft only occupies 1.4 gb of space in total with plenty of storage space unused on my switch. However, when I close the app and restart minecraft after the game closed and the message appeared, I can enter the respective world again with no issues and play for some time (hours to days, exploring new chunks or making new maps or farms no problem) until the issues appears again. Then I close the app again and so on... worked surprisingly well so far (but not always)

I just did a fresh install of 1.19.20 (the latest version), and I am getting this error. My SSD has 300GB of free space, the folder is only 35MB.
This is a bug and a bad one. I can't play this on my PC at all.
[media]

This is exactly what happened to me after latest update. Now I see my world on the cloud but can't sync it.

This issue seemed to have started for me on xbox platform with the 1.19.31 release on October 4th. Originally I was receiving the "You are out of data storage space..." message but was still able to restart and play through as it appeared to be a false message and all my world updates were saving. Now when attempting to load the world, it pink screens while loading and Minecraft crashes. Bad deal. 10 year old world that is approximately 1.8GB.
A workaround to this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Having this happen on an Xbox Series S after the latest October 5th 2022 update. Only really happens after around 8-9 minutes of flying with an Elytra in my survival world, but this is gamebreaking. This bug was submitted in 2019, how is this still an issue on the latest consoles?? Yeah let me just “make a new world,” for it to happen again, and again, and again..

Positive I know the issue now.. I have been researching quite a bit, Mojang, or Microsoft.. unsure which one… caps console worlds “PlayStation and Xbox” at 3-4GB. Even if it says “958mb” or “1013mb”… it’s likely it’s actually more than that… (why does it state that… I don’t know) but this is only true with console worlds… so is there a fix? Maybe don’t cap Minecraft worlds on Consoles and users wouldn’t have to loose there years long-term (massive) mc worlds…. I mean? This has to be the issue… or at least a part of it.
there are PLENTY of Java and Bedrock worlds with massive worlds that are not capped.. they are on the PC. These worlds have corruptions from time to time.. but they are NOT a “full of storage” glitch unless the PC is legit out of storage. This is a Console Bedrock issue.. where worlds are indeed capped.

Crappy thing is there’s not even a Microsoft pay wall where you can pay for the storage cap to be based on the space you have on your console. Or at least are given more storage than some predetermined 3-4 GB OS limit which has been outdated since the mid 2000s. I agree with JocylnBree that the game improperly displays the storage size, as my storage size for the single survival world I play on went from 1.6 Gbs to around 900+ MB after deleting, and re-downloading MC. I just didn’t know Minecraft’s Xbox/PS OS storage had to run on a bunch of floppy discs stacked on top of eachother.
I’ve been playing MC on this Xbox Series S for less than a year with a single survival world, and have reached that limit like this is so silly, and would probably deter many people from playing altogether if they were aware of this issue before downloading Minecraft since it seems to stem across all platforms somehow. Please fix so if I have to re-make the one world I play on this doesn’t happen again.

Also posted this on MCPE-42091 since they seem to be similar issues i thought I'd add it here:
Not sure if this is the same issue, but is at least similar, but I get the message that my storage IS full and will be returned to the main menu to clear storage. I have over 200mb left on internal and over 2TB on external. With my particular issue I have noticed a few other things that may or may not not be related. Firstly, unless I'm completely stationary, I have noticed that the auto save is constantly running, if it does stop its only for a second or two unless I become stationary again. My issue seems to only happen when I explore unexplored areas of maps (even the maps are different zoom levels of other already explored areas). Also, I just experimented and found that after exploring around approximately 80% or so of a level 3 map increased my world file size by 22mb, this was with doing nothing except moving around to 'clear' the map. Other activities, including adding command blocks for various purposes do not seem to trigger the problem. At the moment, if I clear small portions of a map, save and quit, then reload, no issue. Doing a hard reset after the problem generally has been allowing me to reload the last save, but all activity from initially loading is lost, even when auto saving seems to get taking place. And finally, everytime I save and quit, after a lengthy load period, I get the message that world upload has failed. I have Xbox One version 1.19.4101.0

Still a Problem in 1.19.50 my World is around 930mbit. Interesting that many people have the same problems with worlds that are around ~950mbit. Also many people are complaining on ps5 and xbox I am getting an Pc soon then I can look if its fixed there when transferring the world. It also happens on a copied world so it must be a world size problem.

IMPORTANT: Anyone who expiriences this bug on what Simulation Distance do you play? 4,6,8 or 10? Since I put the Simulation Distance on 4 chunks (before it was on 10) the bug didn't occur in the last 3 days of playing maybe this has something to do with this? Also putting the world on a realm also "fixes" it.

Regarding the simulation distance theory: Playing on a Series X with a simulation distance of 4 chunks and I am experiencing this error on both Minecraft and Minecraft Preview with different worlds. I can usually just cancel out of the sync and the worlds will still save my progress locally.

Well it was worth the try maybe I'm just lucky that it didn't crash in the past few days. One time I couldnt load up my world at all (pink black texture errors everywhere and my series x just crashes) this needs to be fixed. Dont wanna put it on a realm because paying money just so it dont send me the error is not a valuable solution

Since I put the Simulation Distance at 4 chunks the bug didn't occur to me of 3 week of playing. Maybe there are different issues Connected to the bug, that It happens to some people and some don't.

The world save provided on MCPE-118591 is no longer available. Could anyone provide a world save that triggers this error?
I was able to open and fly around in the world provided by Otocin without any issues on my PC. Perhaps significant, the world does have a 32x texture pack applied and the local_player is holding a map in the offhand and has 5 more maps in inventory along with a few shulker boxes and textured banners.
Same for the world provided by Blaze dutkowsky. This world had a lot of texture packs but none were enabled, and there was only one map in the player inventory.

I hope [Mod] GoldenHelmet looking into this is a good sign and than someone has a world that they can provide. My family and I no longer play MineCraft because of it and do not have it installed.

Here is a link to the world that should have this error occur. I pulled this down from the realm after I loaded it there from my PS5. My PS5 is where I experienced the error. Please let me know if I didn't do this right.

Bolain's world opens fine for me on PC. This seems to be mostly a Playstation and XBox problem at this point. There is a pattern in the comments and duplicate reports of the error happening on Playstation when worlds reach 950 MB.

Yes that is the case. PC loads fine but console fails. I don’t play on PC at all and the only way I can play my world is on a realm because of this issue.

I am on console (xBox) as well.

Is there any updated on this issue? Seems like it has been a problem for a while with no Fixes. I am on the Xbox Series X
My world currently won't even open and throws the Error " You are out of data storage space and Minecraft is unable to save your Progress! Minecraft will return you to the main Menu to clear up storage space" As others have stated, I have plenty of room both in the game and on my Xbox. The only worlds I have on this account are my main world and two copies of my world (as I was trying to fix the problem).
I have been battling this particular issue for quite a few months now.

I've have some worlds that would occasionally receive the "You are out of data storage space and Minecraft is unable to save your Progress! Minecraft will return you to the main Menu to clear up storage space" message despite having plenty of storage on my Series X, but if I reopen the same world that received the out of data storage message, it would say "There was a problem loading this world" and restarting Minecraft usually fixes the world failing to load.

I've experienced this bug with my worlds roughly since it started. Since the latest patch, 1.20.10, the issue seems to have changed. Whereas before this patch I would simply experience the bug as usual, (any exploration triggering the "You are out of data storage space and Minecraft is unable to save your Progress! Minecraft will return you to the main Menu to clear up storage space." message,) now I am able to explore my world like what seemed to be normal. After exploring new chunks for some time, I got the message, "Local save successful but cloud sync failed due to quota. Free cloud space by deleting worlds from the settings menu." with a "continue" button below. The next time I attempted to join my world, I was met with the "There was a problem loading this world." message typical for corrupted worlds and have not been able to join since. The world switches between saying 1.2 gb and 1.4 gb, and I'm on Xbox Series X if that helps.

Arstotzkan101, I was on xbox one x as well. All the symptoms you are describing were also the sequence of events for me. It appeared that I could keep playing through the error messages, but in doing so eventually the entire world corrupted and I was unable to even load the game. You then get all the fancy pink boxes listed above in the issue and your world is ruined. It didn't start happening for me until my world was near 1.7 or 1.8 GB and once it it 2.0 it was dead.

osguard, my world was at 1.2 gb before the update and I played through the error messages, but when I left the world at 1.4, it corrupted. Seems it's happening at varying sizes.

The only Solution I could find to "fix" the problem is to either put the World on a Realms Server, disadvantage is you have to pay money and your render distance is set. The second Solution is to copy the World onto a Pc and play it there. My World had around 950mb~ and it crashed so many times on my Xbox. Now that I am on Pc my World has 1.1gb and it runs great with no crashes about storage space. These "Solutions" are not very practical in my opinion because you have to spend money on a realms server or buy a good Pc and many people can't pay that. The problem is known for years and I don't understand why the problem can't be fixed because it's game breaking and people who have played months or even years on their world have to deal with that

I've been having this happen to me for the past couple months on my pc that has 1tb of space and my world is only 700mb.

Hi Arstotzkan101/all - just wanted to update what I'm seeing in my world. When I last updated, I was in a spot where my most recent world had corrupted at around 1.8 GB and was not loadable in the game. My 2 other backups (one was a week older) would not load either - though they were not corrupted.
After you mentioned the issue had changed with 1.20.10, I decided to go in and give another try a few weeks back on what I think would have been 1.20.15. Happy to say that "something had changed" for me too and I was able to now load my worlds again. The corrupted world was loadable, but I could now see the corruption and as I walked around my world there were numerous chunks missing that were just "void." Fortunately, I was able to load the copy that was a week older, also 1.8 GB and it seemed playable as normal. I made a backup of that and have cautiously been playing since. I haven't received any corruption errors or most of the errors below. There have been a couple times where the cloud save didn't work, but it then synced next time in.
The issue that I did run into with 1.20.15 was that 1/10 tries I would freeze going into the Nether. When I re-loaded the game, it put me in a random spot in nether WAY off of where I was, which then caused the world to grow to 2.1GB. So I am reluctant to go into the nether for fear of the crash/relocation problem, but everything else seemed fine and world syncs are happening fine at 2.1GB.
With the 1.20.30 release this week, I now have a severe lag problem with mobs, arrows, dropped objects like bamboo, etc. Hoping for a next hotfix to resolve those performance/lag issues. Super happy I can get back into my world and play it again though a bit of a up down roller coaster.

Is this similar to not being able to download market place world's skins or textures or join the mob vote server?

How is this still an issue?? Issues that involve paid content should be top priority. I just paid for content for my son that we can’t even download. We are also getting the error message that there’s not enough space available to download the content, but there is actually plenty of space. 5 years since this ticket was opened, and still unresolved.

I’ve been encountering this same issue on my PS5, but it happens when I try to create a world copy (backup). I’ve tried to move the game and save files from the internal hard drive to the extra m.2 but it makes no difference. I’ve also tried u installing the game and then re downloading to see if that would work.

I just encountered this on Windows 11, Minecraft 1.21.22. The world is 348 MB. I have plenty of free space on my C: drive (458 GB free). When I try to enter the world, it says "You are out of data storage space and Minecraft is unable to save your progress! Minecraft will return you to the main menu to clear up storage space." and returns me to the menu.
Additional info: the world is a Realm of which I wasn't the owner. The Realm owner exported the world and gave me the file; I imported it to play locally.

Encountered on PC Bedrock version v1.21.44. World has existed for around a year. World size only 147MB. Less than 1MB resource/behavior packs. 590GB free space on disk. Marketplace cache cleared. No reason to give this error. Support claims it's a bug. Support claims that Minecraft is limited in how much data it is allowed to take up on disk. Support claims "it is not possible to specify how much space Minecraft can take or its remaining storage." User claims that is a load of bunk. Likely something else unseen eating up "allocated" data until bug occurs but of course there is no way to check because of hand wave reasons. Sort your lives out devs, this bug is old enough to go to kindergarten this year.

Looking at these reports (including mine), they suggest that Minecraft makes an assumption ("storage is full") from a LevelDB error code which can also arise from other causes. Most operating systems & platforms don't separately report the "storage full" case–they'll surface it as an I/O error. LevelDB doesn't know about storage media and returns a generic I/O error (leveldb::Status of kIoError) for storage-media full but also for any other kind of I/O error. Minecraft might even be interpreting non-I/O errors such as leveldb::Status kCorruption as "out of storage space".
