You are out of data storage space and minecraft is unable to save your progress

When playing in Beta 1.2.20.1, using new world or existing world, with or without experimental gameplay on, after a few minutes of playing the game crashes and you get this message:
"You are out of data storage space and minecraft is unable to save your progress."

I have over 3 GB of free space on my PC. This started yesterday when I first updated to Beta 1.2.20.1 build.

Unable to save any game progress as a result.

i have the same issue on Android OS,

migrated

Also having same issue on my HTC U11, and I have about 15GB of available storage space. It also keeps making random copies of the world that I've been working on, but the copies are all of the world before any work was done on it (I've been working on it for over 2 years). The new copies will say the world is anywhere between 100-150MB, but if I go in to the world and exit it, it changes to between 2-4MB.

I'm making a separate bug report for that just in case it's not related, but it seems like the storage is buggy.

Elkniwt

I have hit this issue recently on Windows 10 (MC v1.5.3).  File Explorer says I have 39GB of free space, yet Minecraft says I don't have enough to copy a world or to save my progress.  The world we have been playing on is about a month old and 1.1GB in size.

migrated

Also affects MCPE 1.6.0 from Amazon Appstore (on Kindle Fire)

migrated

Also affects 1.9.0.0 on bedrock edition.

Curiously this also happen when the game uses more than 300 MB of RAM.

This is also affecting my game on windows 10 edition. This data storage they are referring to, is it part of the Minecraft app itself or using my computers data?? I just got he free winter bundle and it was a rather large download... I was wondering if that sort of thing could also take up the same "data storage"?

migrated

Joshua Rohn  Did you pay for Minecraft? Or, you use a pirate version of Minecraft?.

In the forums the people is saying that this bug normally happen when you're a pirate 😛 like me 6 months ago, probably is for the unofficial modifications made by the pirates devs.

migrated

I found out what was causing this bug in my case. I was running the Windows 10 Minecraft app from my Micro SD card (32 gig). I was doing this because my laptop has limited hard drive space. Game was refusing to save while doing this prompting the message. As soon as I switched the Minecraft app back onto C:\ drive the error stopped and I was able to play normal.

Affects 1.9.0.5

hello, still have the same problem. 4gb ram free and 1,3Tb free of space disk. Payed in full.

[Mojang] Mega_Spud (Jay)

For anyone that is experiencing this error - could you please let us know how much free space is available on both the original (C: ) drive, AND on the drive the game was moved to? Also, please specify if this is happening on Windows 10 or Android (or any other platform in fact!).

migrated

In my case I have 3 GB of free space in my internal memory, 26 GB of free space in my SD card, I have Minecraft in my Android phone and the game is located in the internal memory, I moved the game to the SD card and the same bug appears.

migrated

I'm experiencing the problem using Windows 10 on a desktop computer (installed from Windows app store).  Assuming the windows install is on C: drive (I did nothing to change default paths) there is 15.3 GB free.  We have 4 worlds saved for a total of less than 100 MB.

migrated

For me it seems like the problem is that a single world is too big (the biggest world is the one where the error occurs, about 50 MB).  I was able to create new worlds (small) and play other smaller worlds (without deleting the large world).

migrated

This seems to be happening across all versions, and not just betas, including Switch (like me).

When are we going to have some sort of statement that this is being looked into? Two major updates have gone by and its still not fixed! I haven't been able to play my world for about four months now!

migrated

This happened to us on Windows 10. I have about 15 GB free space on C:\ and it happened while one of my friends was exploring the world (My other friend and I were near the spawn point, building some stuff). I uploaded the affected world to Google Drive to test if this happens on their PC's too, and it seems like it is a reproducable issue. If you want to download the affected map to reproduce the issue, feel free to use this one:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1LVOKtjkBWMlDarXtC_FZ-b6nJmY2q15M

Addition: The Game itself was not moved from its original directory

Jonathan5733

Affects 1.10.0.4

On my Hard Drive, I have 606GB left. I was able to reproduce with three worlds, one was 500MB, one was 200MB, and the last one was just under 350MB.

migrated

Affects 1.9.0
Interestingly, this happened to me when my cousin had tried to join several times, and when she finally did, the game gave me this error.

Afterwards, 10mb was added onto the world file size, and any attempt the game made at saving had caused me to crash.

migrated

I've learned that "manually" saving by exiting to menu seems to work, however this is is a poor and temporary solution to such a major problem. My world size also fluctuates between ~30mb to upwards of 69mb.
By the way, I have 658gb free on my hard drive where Minecraft is installed.

migrated

Turns out that this problem was caused by the beta resource pack for the new textures coming soon... can anyone verify this?
After deleting the resource pack the world was able to auto-save properly.

migrated

Pretty sure that's not the problem Gael, as this issue is affecting all platforms, not just the PC versions.

migrated

@Gael Cardenas Both methods did not work for me. I had no Resource Pack in the first place, and I don't even get to the point, where I can save my world manually, because the map is crashing immediately after loading.

Jonathan5733

Affects 1.11.0.4, which the changelog states the issue is fixed

I have the same issue. I cant open my files on PC once it notifies me that I am out of storage even if I DO have more storage once I free some up.

migrated

Same issue here... Windows 10 edition from MS Store v1.9.0. After fresh installation importing my map of 56,2(!)Mb, when opening get the out of storage message and the world has become somewhat bigger to 62.2Mb. After this, the game freezes when using the main menu. I got over 64Gb of free space available on my only HD on this PC.

migrated

Exactly the same issue. The Minecraft user is my boy. He chooses a world and after loading for more than the ussual time, shows this message, and then Minecraft Crashes. I already rebooted, and verified we have two more tan 100 G of free space on the disks in this computer. I tried removing the old worlds he doesn't use any more, with no avail. He's 6 so here's a very annoyed (Computer Geek) Mother.

I tried 1.11 beta and it still doesn’t work and it says now that the world is corrupt.

[Mojang] Mega_Spud (Jay)

@unknown - Are you able to provide a copy of the world save?

  • On Windows 10 you can use the Export world feature.

  • On Android or iOS you need to use a file explorer to navigate to Device storage > games > com.mojang > minecraftWorlds

  • On Xbox or Switch the only way is to upload it to a Realm, and then download the world on Windows 10 or Android/iOS.

If the world is larger than 10MB you can upload the world to OneDrive or a similar file sharing site, and then share the link.

This is happening on 1.10 as well, is there any sign of this bug being fixed soon?

Just tried my world again with 1.11.0.0 update. Nothing has changed. Guess I'll have to wait for the 1.11.0.4 update (please don't take months more to release!!) but I'm not hopeful after all these months that this problem will ever be sorted 😞

migrated

Hi,

I got the out of data storage space message with my world at the beginning of April. With the last two updates to Minecraft, currently v1.11.1  it now opens for about 30 seconds before saying the world is corrupted.

This is a link to the save file on OneDrive.

https://1drv.ms/u/s!AjIs12-Oq1uYhr8jhMUFC1Z9K8R29w

Hope it helps.

Edit: I was about to delete the world and restore a much older backup, when I noticed the simulation distance was set to max (12) not sure how that happened, so I set this to 8 and opened the world, and so far after wondering about for a couple of minutes it hasn't exited with the corrupt message... fingers crossed!

Almost another month has gone by and still I can't use my world. Happy Minecraft 10th anniversary!!

Has anyone tried the 1.11.04 beta on PC and confirm that this is issue is fixed, as has been promised? I'm coming to the end of my tether with this, I think its been over six months now...

migrated

Version 1.11.4 released today (at least on Switch) and, guess what... the issue still isn't fixed!

When is Mojang going to admit that either:

a) they don't have a clue what the issue is

or

b) they don't care

or both!!

Jonathan5733

This still happens in 1.11.4. This was supposed to be fixed back in the 1.11.0.4 beta released a few months ago, and fixed again in the full 1.11.0 release (since beta 1.11.0.4 was a beta for 1.11.0).

[Mojang] Mega_Spud (Jay)

For players that are seeing this issue - are you now seeing the message:

This world has become corrupted. Please report this as bugs.mojang.com

[media]

The issue here seems to be that the wrong message was showing up on the screen, telling players that the device was out of storage space, when in actuality the world save had become corrupted. This messaging has been changed to make it clearer, but we would still like to find out any information about what may have caused the world corruption in the first place.

migrated

Another update is here (1.1.20), and still nothing has changed.

It's a disgrace that Mojang barely acknowledges this issue exists, let alone gives us any updates on progress addressing it.

I'm honestly thinking of starting a petition about this to raise public awareness about the problem, and to hopefully force Mojang into doing something. I honestly don't know what else to do at this point 😞

@James Bay,  have u never export ur world ??

On Windows 10, Minecraft (Microsft Store > Downloads and Updates give version number 1.12.28.0) (in-game version show v1.12.0)

  • have exported the world and imported the world, with the same error message

  • have exported the world and imported on another account, results in the same error

  • i deleted level.dat and renamed level.dat_old to level.dat, results in the same error

  • i checked the /db folder, but that didn't make any sense to me.

  • also tried to compare json files with working versions of minecraft, but couldn't find any relation or clue what causes the error.

I haven't tested this on Switch

I have no clue on how to revert back to a different version of Minecraft (on bedrock) in Windows 10 so I could do some more tests.

Desert Prince

Having this issue when trying to download any world backup larger than about 500MB. I have Gigs of storage on both external SD and internal storage on my LG Q6 using Android 8.1 on Bedrock 1.12.0. This really doesn't make a lot sense and hope it gets fixed soon. Not that I did spot realms were upgraded about a day or so ago to version 1.12.1. although doesn't matter whether the file is 1.12.0 or 1.12.1 version, the storage space message comes up for any of the 500MB+ world backups.

Perhaps one of the Jira staff could advise HOW much space Minecraft app is SUPPOSED to be looking for on the device storage and/or SD card before this feature is restricted?

Desert Prince

Still affects android bedrock 1.12.1 release. Cannot download larger realm worlds despite having plenty of space on the device. Request update on this bug.

Hi! I just wanted to comment that we have marked this bug as a higher priority due to community feedback and what we thought fixed this issue did not actually fix the issue. We will update you when we have more news. Thank you! 🙂

Playing on PC - Bedrock 1.12.1, and this happened to me today. 365GB available space. Did not say that the world has become corrupted, but lack of storage. Have been travelling quite a lot in this world, so the file was about 400MB.

Rather annoying when it happened as I was going through a portal to nether, and then when I had restarted the game, I spawned in the middle of a huge lava lake. So long to all my enchanted diamond gear and equipment. When I respawned outside the overworld portal (where I had a bed), I went through the portal again and came through on a small floating island on top of this huge lava lake. With no equipment and any way of getting off this island, I went through the portal back to the overworld and started riding towards home, when the error message happened once more, and I started googling and found this thread.

migrated

Ok, so I am wondering if this could have something to do with my OneDrive account. It's been full for a long time, and I haven't bothered doing anything about it. So after I unlinked the OneDrive to my pc, I restarted Minecraft, and I am able to ride on my horse without any crashes. Only thing that worries me is that the game file is now about 100MB smaller than before?

My friend has a realm, in which me and a couple of friends have been playing on, and this week it decided to reset some important chunks. When I got access to the world to attempt fixing the chunks by copying their data back the game just kicked me for lack of storage even though I have over 100GB of free space. I'm running on Windows 10, and I'm assuming that the realm got the same error, because the past week it's been complaining about a corrupt world after kicking everyone after roughly 5 minutes of logging in. The realm owner (not me) also noticed that several backups were missing, and before he had 48 daily backups for about an entire month, and now he has only about 6, 2 of which have reset chunks.

migrated

This keeps happening to me. Sometimes I can play the game normally, but when it starts saying I'm out of storage space (I'm not, over 500 GB free), the only way I've found to get it to stop is to restart my entire computer. Also, when it "crashes", the game sometimes deletes items from my inventory that were recently taken from a chest, but doesn't replace them in the chest. Getting ready to restart my computer for probably the fifth time this weekend. Pls fix!

Edit: Not even restarting works now. My 100+ hour world is unplayable.

migrated

Could you please share your worlds?

I had this problem and apparently it was related to RAM and not storage as such, and I solved it by decreasing the amount of RAM that Minecraft required. I was building and I was using a lot of scaffolding that generated a lot of particles and that's why when I approached that area the user interface disappeared and then it closed and I got this message.

migrated

I keep task manager open when playing and have observed other games running fine while using twice as much RAM as Minecraft does. I don't think allocating more RAM to Minecraft is a thing in Bedrock Edition, if it is then I cant find anything online. Also, decreasing world rendering to 8 chunks (from 24), turning off fancy graphics, etc. doesn't seem to help.

migrated

Happening on 1.13.0 - 3 times since the update I've had the game crash to this screen. When I restart it's approximately in the same place, not missing any items that I can tell. I am on Bedrock Edition, playing off of my C drive that has 700 Gigs of free space. My game file is almost 4 gigs, I have been playing this file since 7-17-2017, obviously I'm dismayed by this because I have a LOT of time invested with over 120 filled out MAPS....I have never seen this problem until the game updated this morning when I logged in. It's happened 3 times in 3 hours of playing.

migrated

Since the 1.13 update I have started seeing this problem. I build a world in 1.12 and have never had this issue, but immediately after the update it started. I run a very clean game, with no mods or anything. Some data:

World size: 1.5 Gb

C-drive free space: 670 Gb

Mods: none

Skins: MC standard

Neither Disk usage, CPU nor GPU are overloaded at the time of crash; I keep task manager open and don't see anything that would cause a crash. I do notice that it crashes right after the game saves (the chest appears in the upper right corner to indicate the save). And it usually happens after I have seen it save the game 2 or 3 times, which makes me believe that it is linked to saving the game to the C drive, but perhaps there is a disk cache problem which causes the issue.

Graphics settings don't have an impact; I ran the game with all sorts of settings and no problems. The game crashes even when I am AFK, just standing in my house doing nothing (with very low RAM and GPU usage). It crashes when digging a mineshaft, it crashes while flying around, while putting blaze rods in a minecart, etc. The common theme is always the game saving to the hard drive.

As this bug appeared right after installing 1.13 with exactly the same world as I had the day before (in 1.12), I have reason to believe this update has a flaw in how it saves files to disk.

Is it safe to still play on a world affected by this?

Like after this bug is fixed should we continue on a backup of the world before the 1.13.0 update?

In other words, is a world affected forever if it gets this bug?

Its now affecting 1.14.0.6

Bump. This is currently affecting the live stable release of 1.13. My world is unplayable as this happened every 5 min or so. The world is 2.5GB in size and I have over 1TB left on the drive it's stored on

1.13.1 Hotfixes have been released but the "Storage" issue has not yet been fixed. The "Storage" issue had to be corrected immediately because it causes Crash not only on its own but also on "BDS."

Hi,
I have this bug too for 1.13 version on switch up to date there is 300mo of backup world, 40mo for the bigger.
I report the bug to noxcrew after installing city living.
I will try without mod or bought world.

migrated

Not fixed by last hotfix....I just don't understand. I have a 3.9 gig world that my son and I have played on for almost 3 years and now we can't even travel to any of the remote towns and cities we've built. I have almost a TB of space left, BTW. Not a RAM issue, as I've been told it could be. Not supposed to be a file size limit that I've ever been made aware of or found doing research. My 10 year old autistic son is very dismayed by this, and I can do nothing.

migrated

Started happening to me for the first time on 1.13.1

There is adequate storage and RAM and has never been an issue before.  The game crashes with this error, other players get a world is corrupt error, but not much progress is lost when the world is reloaded so there is some saving going on.

migrated

Happening to me as well on 1.13.1 . I was trying to play on my 9 gig world with plenty of storage left, loaded in and then got this. This needs to be patched

migrated

i get this when i fly too fast with elytra

migrated

Storage issues still exist in beta 1.14.0.52. Damn it.
Does it fix before the launch of Buzzy Bees?

migrated

At least I'm not alone. I have a 5 gig world that me and my Autistic son have been playing on since 2017. We cannot play on it for more than 10 minutes now without encountering this error. The thing is, why would we start another world when we are going to run into this again? It's a game killer, when you don't have confidence that you can consistently enjoy the product, what good is the product no matter how fun in the short term? My son is just torn up, and frankly so am I.

migrated

This happens to me multiple times a day. My family plays on a multiplayer world hosted on a Windows 10 PC.  This seems to have started with the 1.13.1 update and usually someone in the world is traveling very quickly either with elytra or flying in creative mode. World size is 900mb and there is over 50gb available storage.  I have stopped playing on the world now that I realized that sometimes when it crashes with the error my world save file size decreases slightly so something is being lost, although when I rejoin everything in the immediate area is intact as far as I can tell but I'm not sure about the rest of the world.  This is a world breaking priority bug and needs to be addressed immediately.

migrated

Personal update... this issue has nothing to do with world size or available data on drive. the problem is that from the initial size of the World is that it can only grow so much, let's say one percent as an example before the crash happens. when it crashes, any extraneous cache is dumped just like when the world is closed and saved. so when you restart the world after the crash it'll be a smaller file because of that. I have had it loose some data for the previous thirty seconds but not all. for example I was laying out a long line of pumpkins(256) to convert to carved pumpkins and the crash happened. when I came back little sections of pumpkins were missing from the line. one time I lost 45 and another 150.... gone to the ethers. My solution to this is if I'm doing something that is a ways away(more than 500 blocks) I quit  and save and then reopen world which drops any cache previously stored and then do the traveling and then do a quit and save and reopen in the new place. you can do this when traveling through the nether too,  but is best in peaceful mode. Also reducing the render distance for chunks down to 24 or less helps by keeping the file size from ballooning to much with all the extra chunks loaded. I've managed to travel fair distances by this method without crashing but am always cautious. IS THIS A PAIN IN THE ASS! YES!!! but until Mojang does something about it!!! that's how you keep playing your world. they fixed in previous versions apparently and NEED to do it with 1.13.1. PLEASE! It's been over a month. thanks 😃

migrated

That explains why I am put back 100 blocks away from where I was traveling after loading up the world again after a crash.

And thanks for the method on preventing the world from crashing.

migrated

HEY MOJANG! Resolving an issue by saying it is a duplicate Does NOT fix the problem, FYI. hugs and kisses. 😉

migrated

This has officially been affecting people for over 20 (!!!) months now. Absolutely disgraceful from Mojang. Honestly, we should think about submitting this to regulatory bodies at this point as they are knowingly selling a broken product and have never once fully come out and addressed it.

migrated

The Minecraft BE is like what the financial sector calls "mis-selling."
A number of errors that occur with each update,
incompetent developers who neglect the errors and provide no information to users.
How can you sell these games for money? This is a fraud!!
Why won't you tell me what caused the error, whether you can fix it, how much time you need if you need?

migrated

Doing much the same as Reed King, quit/save often these days...

Believing in a different explanation, though. Save-File format changed with Bedrock edition acc. to https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Bedrock_Edition_level_format

Seems to me as if - behind the scenes - there is some memory leak involved in this.

Bug can be experienced very quickly when travelling some really old world where there's chunks in old save-file formats that will have to be opened and then re-saved in new format..., just go flying for 20 seconds and bummer.

Bugs related (on top of the ones listed above, can't seem to find the "relate" button"):

The bug fix is a more urgent and important issue than the new update. Even if 'Buzzy Bees' is released, many people cannot play 'Buzzy Bees' unless the 'Storage' issue is resolved. Can 'Storage' issues be amended by December 11?

This bug is still affecting me in v1.13.1 and I am still unable to play Bedrock for longer than a minute on any of my saved worlds as a result. Seems like Mojang wants to kill off Bedrock with all of these unsolved bugs 😞

Please only comment, if you have additional info, that can help to reproduce or investigate the issue. This will help getting the issue resolved, posting angry comments won't! Thank you!

CtrlAltCuteness

I know this is the wrong place to put it, but finding the code that causes the bug is not as easy as you would think, especially if the players don't have enough tech savvy skills to give a proper bug report on "all the actions that took place before it first happened", etc.

From what has happened in a multiplayer world that i play in, multiple players have theorized this glitch may be occurring when someone is generating new chunks. it has severely affected the world and is pretty much unplayable.

migrated

This issue must be at the forefront since the bee update arrived and could inherit players from getting bees in newly generated terrain

migrated

I play on a multiplayer sever with many people and this has been happening for the last few days. it is believed that it happens when a certain amount of new chunks are loaded. pls fix this i love playing minecraft.😞

migrated

This is still an issue that needs to be fixed.

migrated

Hoping this gets fixed soon! Its really annoying

migrated

This is still a serious problem occurring in many multiplayer sessions, seeming to occur when players are adventuring and loading multiple chunks at the same time causing the world to crash and say it’s been corrupted and still happening in the most recent update. Please help 🥺

migrated

The multiplayer server I play on is having this issue and crashes a lot. We believe it’s due to having to many chunks loaded in. This bug has almost made the world to hard to play with it crashing so much. Hope the issue gets fixed soon.

migrated

This problem remains unresolved.

I am very much looking forward to the resuscitation of the many worlds and servers lost to this issue.

migrated

This has been affecting players in our worlds for weeks now. Ever since the foxes were added to the game. I admit it does seem like it's chunks loading because of course everyone wants to see and get the newest mobs in the game. Sometimes the game will say the world is corrupted and other times it will just kick us all out without any warning. It happens in my own worlds too, sometimes my whole screen freezes and I can't move and I have to restart the game. Sometimes I can load back in just fine, but other times any dogs, cats, horses, or birds that were with me just disappear like I never had them.

migrated

This is still happening on servers I play on and I’m told it’s when new chunks are being generated, this makes it hard to play and explore new areas. Hopefully this can be fixed soon :/

migrated

I've been raising this question continuously for the past month, but Mojang still hasn't found the cause of the error.

As long as there is a 'Storage Issue' occurring in relation to Chunk loading, we can't go on an expedition to find foxes or bees.

'Storage Issue' is occurring in Windows 10 editions, which also affects BDS running on Windows 10 or Windows Server base, which also creates problems that BDS cannot function properly. This is very unfortunate for multiplayer.

Please also vote for the BDS bug tracker. (https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/BDS-1682)

migrated

This has been effecting alot of the communities in which I play. It renders our world's corrupt and broken and unplayable with player counts over 5. It has been a bug for quite some time and has been through multiple stages of updates which only seem to get progressively worse.
PLEASE FIX!!

migrated

It still is ruining some of my favorite servers I play on, could you try your very hardest to fix thanks

migrated

Still a very big issue on a server I’m moderating, at least a corruption every 8-15 minutes or so.

migrated

This is happening to one of my personal worlds in 1.14.0. I have more than 800GB of free space on my hard drive, but it's saying I don't have enough.

migrated

This is affecting the realms i play on, 2 are pretty much dead and one is glitching to death.

migrated

It is a good point to make that nobody with this bug will be able to try out any of the new content in the latest updates in their world due to them having to load new chunks. sad...

migrated

Still an issue here bois

migrated

Fix it i spent months on it

migrated

This is a bug that’s been happening for months on a server I play on we think it’s due to loading new chunks which is a huge problem as many people like to explore the world. Please fix this and make our worlds playable

[media]

I host several multiplayer worlds as a 30-player alternative to realms & servers that allow all platforms to join. We use the standard game client running on Windows 10 machines as the hosts. This has been tested on virtual & physical machines with the same results. All software is up to date.

Starting with update 1.13.1 we started to see some major crashing problems with our popular worlds. They are semi stable while solo, but as soon as a few players join(2-3), the larger worlds will crash. For the host, it will display a black/purple checkered backdrop & display the error “You are out of data storage space and Minecraft is unable to save your progress! Minecraft will return you to the main menu to clear up some storage space.” For the players that were online, they will receive an error indicating that the world is corrupt.

This problem was assumed to be related to the version of Minecraft that the world was generated on. This theory was recently disproven. We created a new world and spent many hours setting it up so that our displaced players from the broken worlds would have a place to play. After about 2 weeks of playing, we are now experiencing these same issues in the new world.

Another theory is that the new version of Minecraft is unable to handle many players. This was disproven by the fact that for the first two weeks on the new world we were running without issue, and averaged 20-30 consecutive players throughout the day.

Another obvious theory is that the machine running the world is running out of resources. On average this is the resource consumption at the time of the crash. CPU ~ 20% use, RAM 4GB/12GB use, SSD 40GB/120GB use. As far as I can measure, the game client is getting everything it should need to properly function.

It seems very clear to me that a change was introduced in the 1.13.1 codebase that heavily decreased multiplayer performance & introduced this bug that causes multiplayer worlds to crash. I suggest the use of a diff checker & reverting to 1.12 code where these changes were made if possible.

TLDR with a few extra bits

  • All multiplayer worlds with large file sizes are crashing on windows 10

  • The host will see the error mentioned in the initial bug report “out of data storage space”

  • Players who joined will see an error saying that the world is corrupt

  • The problem seems to be present if the world is around 700MB+

  • Smaller worlds can handle up to 30 consecutive players with no issue

  • Worlds around 1GB can handle between 6-10 players, but crash roughly once an hour

  • Larger worlds (3GB+) are unable to run with multiple players

  • You can crash larger worlds while solo by repeatedly teleporting to new chunks.

  • Commands & addons do not have an impact (tested with & without them)

I would like to stress the severity of this issue. Since this is a multiplayer issue, most of your impacted users assume that it is the responsibility of the world host to work out the problem with the developer. I am confident to say that it is impacting far more users than the bug reports would suggest. My discord community alone has 2,700 members & countless dead worlds that are impacted by this bug.

I love the new marketing material. This game truly would be better together. Please bump up the priority of this incident so I can give your customers a place to play together 🙂

PS: Love you!

Hello

This is a issue that have been effecting servers similar to BRealms and probably more that may be effected by this issue for awhile, not sure when it started but it been hell ever sense the hot fix was released to keep servers from crashing, we suspect it's the new chunks loading that cause this issue but not 100% sure yet... if could try get a fix on this issue would be appreciated as this has prevented me from playing on servers that I like.

Hello, I’d like to comment that this is still a persisting issue when it comes to Minecraft realms, we’ve lost most progress on one of my favorite realms, BR realms. Please get this fixed ASAP, thank you!

WAYS TO CONTINUE PLAYING UNTIL THIS BUG IS FIXED, HOPEFULLY...

First, Don't explore(create) new chunks! this problem seems to be mainly based on a cap of overall world file size... mine was at 3.1 gigs the first time it happened. The Size of your World data file at the time of the First Error IS Now your CAP, you can never exceed that without Crashing. Adding new chunks will push the limit over your cap and since new chunks can't be removed it will make your world UNPLAYABLE because you have no more cache below the cap. this affects bedrock versions from 1.11 to 1.14, including betas, realms and multiplayer. if your looking for Bees and Foxes, ONLY go to previously explored areas that are the correct biome, this is how I found foxes without messing up my world.

Keep travel minimized... Flying is a good way to cause this fault. changing Chunk Rendering to lower than 24 helps  when traveling. loading many old chunks causes a temporary ballooning of the file size that surpasses the cap and causes the error. when you reload your world the chunks outside your immediate area are not active and not in the cache anymore... thus you have an empty cache to operate in.

If traveling more than 500 blocks, quitting and saving and then reopening helps clear the cache and give you more to travel on... this is a good time to have it set to 24 chunks. Also operating in peaceful helps by not adding extra mobs to the mix, especially when traveling in the Nether(and probably the End).  fighting mobs, especially Ghasts seems to use a lot of cache.

my typical action for traveling to a work site about 300 blocks from "home" is to reduce chunks to 24, switch to peaceful, quit and save, reopen and head straight into portal (avoiding loading as many chunks by not scanning around), go to exit portal, reenter overworld and quit and save again and reopen. then doing the same when returning home.

Remove as many Blocks as possible 😉 this actually reduces the "net" size of your world which gives you more cache to operate in before hitting the cap. Air blocks use less data than filled blocks. Yes, you have to remove Tens of Thousands of blocks to reduce file size enough to be worth it. I just happened to be doing a project at first sign of this bug that was removing 6 million plus blocks(rough estimate). Although, I have caused the error when actually removing tens of thousands of blocks in between saves, since this adds to the cache size during game play. So stop and save and reopen occasionally to clear the cache.

There is loss of recent game play (30 seconds or so)when the crash happens so it's possible to loose items recently placed. I've lost 150 pumpkins at one time. you don't want to loose a shulker box full of Diamonds or Emeralds or that VERY expensive Maxed out Diamond Pickaxe or pair of Boots! Been there...

in a nut shell...

Don't load(create) New Chunks

Minimize Travel. when you travel at chunk rendering of 40 chunks you open an 80 chunk(1280 block) wide path for the entire distance. That's a lot of Data of things you won't even see that is now and forever part of your game.

Save often and keep a couple days of copies for backup and export once a week to another drive, just incase. trust me. better to go back to copy and lose a few hours than your entire world.

reduce Chunk Rendering below 24

switch to peaceful

Mine your Brains out 😛

… And have Fun and Pray that Mojang fixes this soon. 😃

Hopefully the Bees will Come to Me!

migrated

Happening here too, and my world is still under 1GB with at least 90GB free on disk. So far nothing has gotten corrupted from what I can tell though. Very annoying to say the least, though.

migrated

I know how to solve the problem, after many tests I managed to recover a world of 90 MB and although it is a bit complicated I could do it with one of less than 500 MB,if someone has a world of that size or less I can fix it,I just need the seed of the world, the world obviously and the version of Minecraft in which you created the world, I will write the tutorial after I have clear my mind, becauseI am very happy to have achieved this and I cannot reason well xD, after months I succeeded. Sorry for my bad English.

migrated

Ahhh, and I need it to be a world of Bedrock on Android because I don't know if the way of saving worlds is different in WIN10, although you can share it.

migrated

Please fix this issue that would be very nice

migrated

Would be nice if this was fixed. Kinda boring playing on MC solo.

I can't even play my solo world either due to my world also being effected by this bug  :'(

It really sucks that this bug is still around. I slowly watch all my friends die off from Minecraft because we can’t play together anymore without complicated work arounds. I really miss my friends. If this bug was fixed I’m sure they would come back. I want to see my friends again.

this bug has crashed our realm the last 2 versions in the last few months. i download the realm because the game is crashing ever 3 min on a realm with no error. i open the save world file only to see this your out of space. with over 64 gb of free hard drive space. why am i out of space. i am not. 1.7gb. is the max we got to and saw this error. i had to reset the realm again. i as a paying customer should not be seeing this bug on realms in fact i would like to see a bug report section that shows a list of bugs or reasons why a realm crashes added to realms. so we are not in the dark with a disconnected screen. so where do we stand. 175 mb in size in the last 3 days. and will see if by next update if this bug is fixed. i pay monthly for a product i again will remind staff i pay monthly and we cant play on our save file on realms because this bug is crashing our realms!

Hey Mojang! thanks to this bug a few realms are down wich is hurting the community that makes them so please, fix your gogo dumb dumb juice.

Minecraft multiplayer is broken due to the 1.13 update. Undo whatever changes were made so the Minecraft communities can start playing together again.

migrated

The 1.13 update has caused issues yet there've been three more updates since and the bug still isn't fixed. The game is crashing at random times within previously explored areas of the map (especially in the Nether). I realise it's hard to find the code that causes it but mightn't it be a good idea to hold off the updates until it's fixed. Maybe do some thorough testing before corrupting everyone's game even further. Xbox One.

migrated

This is most definitely still an issue. We have received multiple updates since the discovery of this bug and they have only worsened the situation

migrated

It a little bugie

migrated

It still a problem

migrated

this is still an issue for a lot of bedrock players

migrated

says its fixed in 1.14.0 but still happens 😞

migrated

hi this is still an issue and should get fixed because it sucks to not be able to play

migrated

So Minecraft has bees. Unfortunately, Minecraft Realms is not available to those who play over cellular data. A wifi connection is required, and once a player has access to the realm, the game crashes approximately every 15-20 minutes (if you’re lucky and it’s not every 5-10 minutes). This has been an issue for awhile and instead of getting a response or a fix, we get bees.

migrated

After the Bees update I get this issue periodically while playing with my kids in multiplayer survival. My world is large (700 MB) but i have a TON of free disk space. Closing minecraft and reopening fixes the issue for a while. Also, when it happens and I am boating, my boat is gone after recovery.

migrated

does it happen even when you do have enough space for minecraft?

migrated

Same Thing Is Happening To Me.

migrated

I am dealing with this issue too

migrated

My year-and-a-half-old realm world is encountering this issue. If I download the current world, I can't log on at all-- this issue comes up during world loading. I've been trying to see if I could restore an older file, but backups as far back as August are giving this error (although in those, it will let me play for a few minutes before this error pops up). I have about 450 gb free on my hard drive, so I know that's not the issue, and anyway, it's keeping the world from working on my realm, where it also shouldn't be an issue.

Every time it closes with this error, there are also texture issues on the loading screen. The menu will not load properly; sometimes the buttons are tiny squares instead of rectangles, sometimes the whole menu interface is replaced by the pink and black checkers. Most of the time, the background image of the menu screen (currently the bees) will be replaced by a moving pink/black checkered screen.

After many other attempts at working around the issue, I attempted to reinstall the game, but that also had no affect.

I realise this issue has been open for quite some time, but it certainly seems as if it is becoming more of an issue for many people since 1.14.

migrated

Same issue for me. I have a large world (over 1 GB) and it will autosave sometimes, but every time I play the game will crash at least once due to "lack of storage space." I have many GBs of free space and I know that the game can save as it does save most of the time. I am on Beta 1.14.1.3 on Windows 10.

migrated

“1.14.1 did not resolve the problem.
It was suppose to include a bunch of fixes for multiplayer crashes, either this wasn't one of them or it just didn't work.

migrated

Unfortunately 1.14.1 did not fix the issue it would be good if this issue was fixed soon to make large realms and worlds playable.

migrated

1.14.1 has not fixed this issue, It’s only subtly made it less frequent. We want our realms to be able to function without worry that we will crash and lose items due to corruption.

migrated

1.14.1 has not fixed this issue

migrated

it still crashes in 1.14.1 and it crashes at least once per hour. when I play on mobile Ii forces me to restart Minecraft.

migrated

There are still crashes as of the 1.14.1 update. I really wish it was fixed so everyone on our realm could play again like normal.

migrated

This is still an issue on the realm i play on. We are crashing every 5 to 10 minutes at peak player counts. The realm has become UNPLAYABLE. Do you want people to play fortnite? Because this is how you get people to play fortnite.

migrated

as of the latest patch 1.14.1 i am still dealing with this issue. please fix it soon!

migrated

It affects me since the bees update,

I tried many possible resolves but none of them worked. The crash happens more often when I play with more than 16 Chunks or when my friend tries to join me. I think this is texture pack unrelated because my game crashed with and without a texture pack. 1.14.1 did not fix this problem entirely, so my game doesn’t crash after 2 minutes. More likely after 10 minutes after this hotfix.

migrated

Still having the same issue in the latest update version 1.14.1

migrated

It's odd that it starts for people at different versions, for me it started with 1.13.0 and has been a problem since. I have stopped playing for now because of this bug, I only jump on when an update lands to check if it's fixed, maybe it will be resolved by next year so we can all enjoy the new content

migrated

Quite sure it started with bedrock edition, bug is related to new savefile format

migrated

@Mojang/Minisoft: you can ignore this all you like/Ihr könnt das gerne ignorieren... but pls do not be offended if and when non-kiddie serious-like players start quitting this major f*ck-up due to sheer frustration. Thanks for nothing (all of us have $$-d this sh*te)

migrated

Sounds like many people would like this fixed allready! Maybe u guys can push it to mojang acouple more times!

migrated

still an issue smh, come on, fix this already

migrated

I have this issue also.  Thought it was from natural pack but even after removing and buying a new texture pack I still get crashes and the 'you are out of data space' error message.  I deleted all extra worlds except 2 and my realm.  Just now got another crash on a new world. Please get this fixed!

migrated

Not fixed. Crashes a LITTLE less frequently....but then the menu is all messed up...different textures buttons  messed up...

migrated

still broken after last patch

migrated

No matter how much you complain here, Mojang has no interest in solving your problems.

It has already been two months since the error was reported. They always said they were looking for causes, but nothing really seems to have been done.

Instead, Mojang is only bent on finding new ways to make money, such as updating stores. And Mojang tells to me, "Stop whining."

migrated

Even with all the precautions I've figured out, I just crashed it again. Refer to my post on Dec 1st, gives some pointers In dealing with this "till it gets fixed". Jay Wells seems to be working on it... How's it coming, Jay? UPDATED POINTERS: If you travel, switch to 8 chunks and turn off monsters, especially in the nether. close and save often when traveling. Don't go to New chunks, world killer. Good Luck to us ALL!

migrated

Really wish Mojang would give a progress report on this "Bug"... more like a virus. We're all trapped till further notice, if there is any.

migrated

Mojang smashed my world. All 20 months of effort went for nothing.
When will it be fixed? It is doubtful that a developer exists in Mojang.

migrated

this glitch seems to happen when the world size hits 700 mb

migrated

With the comment above This issue seems to occur when world size surpasses the 700-750 Range
The Fact That Mojang really doesn't care either annoys me so much.
Your best bet is to stop expanding past 2k,2k anything expanding outside of that on all 3 dimensions at some point will kill your world

The only thing bedrock devs care about is pushing the market place to bathe in their endless riches

migrated

In regard to the above suggestions that it happens at 700mb - my world did not have a problem until 1800 mb. Also, going through backups of my world over the past year, it is still occurring no matter what the size. My oldest backup of  my world is about 350mb and, though it does take a bit longer to occur, the glitch still happens... So it seems something in the newer updates' code is not playing nice with another bit of code, I think.

I'm willing to wait for a fix if it is being worked on, but my main concern is that nobody is assigned to this bug on here, which certainly leads us to believe that nobody is looking into the matter.

migrated

The fact it has been a year solidifies the fact no one is looking at it. They have everyone on the marketplace finding new ways to milk the money out of people willing to buy Minecoins

migrated

I'm having the same problem on a world that hit 2GB in size. It started as a console world which I moved to PC using a realm

migrated

I've encountered this and I can tell you at least from my experience, it's not a bug. I'm pretty sure Minecraft Bedrock can only take up a max of 2GB on your system. To resolve this, go to settings then storage. You should see all of your world templates, worlds, cached data, and resource packs. My recommendation is to delete a world template if you don't have a that specific world template created in any of your worlds as you are able to redownload marketplace content that you have bought (excluding free things from realms plus after the subscription has ended)

migrated

This will probably never get fixed 😞

migrated

@spongecake89 - my world is 3.9 gigs and never had this issue until November when the update with the Foxes hit. My world has been over 2 gigs for almost a year or maybe more. This bug isn't tied to total space your files take up. I will say people were experiencing this before the update that ruined my world, so there may be other issues not related to that world.

migrated

Well then I guess this issue wasn't tied to something I experienced. I had got the realms plus free trial and downloaded a lot of world templates and backed up so many saves, I had to actually start deleting some of them because when I would try and download something on the marketplace, it displayed a message telling me that there wasn't enough space on my device to download anything else which I had way more space on my device (Nintendo Switch at the time) So I deleted some world templates and was able to download marketplace content again. Maybe there is a variation of max space Minecraft can take up between different devices.

migrated

Ever since the recent update on XBox one that supposedly fixed crash issues, my Minecraft game has been crashing. I never had this issue until the recent update. My world is 1.3GB. None of my other games have issues, so I know it's not my console.

Just like someone else said, what's the point in programming Mansions 13,000 to 25,000 blocks from the spawn point if traveling that far creates excessive file sizes?

I can't play any more without getting the checkered black and pink screen as seen above.

Please fix this Mojang. I miss my awesome world.

migrated

Still not fixed as of 1.14/1.15. really sad that mojang only really cares about java nowadays.

migrated

They only say they have been "still working" for months. In fact, it seems that only work is under way for a new store update. And the community manager just tells us, "Stop whining."

Mojang should recognize and take seriously that the issue is not just a "whining" of some people.

migrated

I just did some testing and sorry if this is already known. I am completely positive this issue is caused by corrupted chunks. In one test I had everyone stay in one area that had been loaded previously and my map did not crash until people moved out of the area. I also just did a test where I pasted the corrupted maps chunks into a fresh map that was not corrupted and after I did that the map became corrupted. I'm about to see if I can figure out a way to find corrupted chunks in an editor. If I am successful I will inform.

migrated

I'm sad to say I didn't make much progress in my tests. I'm still set on the issue being caused by chunks so if that helps anyone figure something out I'm glad.

migrated

I guess this bug and "break chunks" are irrelevant.

I think this problem occurs as many chunks are loaded.

migrated

This bug happened to me right after the bugs and bees update. It only happened after exploring new chunks with bees in them. The game had crashed and shut down my computer. Once I restarted the game after about 5-10 minutes of game play this happened. It happens regardless of if I'm just standing around in my base or if I fly around already explored areas. The bees I found in this time are bugged as well.  Once placed in my base they came out of the hive and did nothing. After reloading the game to see what would happen they went back into the hive and now don't come out. Regardless, I can't play the game without this bug appearing every 5-10 minutes. The 14.1 update didn't fix it and I've tried the newest beta and it also was not resolved there. I hope this issue is resolved soon as I've spent so much time on this world and had a lot of projects in the works. I've been incredibly bummed that I can no longer play this world and starting new worlds just doesn't feel the same.

Thanks for your time.

migrated

Since a few months or so I occasionally run into the same issue "You are out of data storage ... Minecraft will return you to the Main menu". This bug seems to occur mostly, I think, when you are covering great distances, and a lot of game saving takes place. I noticed, when you are returned to the Main menu, the Main screen picture has no texture, just a 2x2 checkerboard pattern. Is this perhaps a texture memory leak, which crashes the game ?

PS: I just had this bug again, after 20 minutes game playing or so, when travelling with a boat in the Nether. This bug is really a show stopper, because everytime the game crashes, you loose something, eg. if you are in a boat, the boat is gone, or when you are near a village, some villagers have disappeared - this bug should have highest priority to be fixed.

migrated

This is still a problem. I don't understand why this bug is not officially confirmed and instead says "Community Consensus". The steps to reproduce this bug are very easy. Have multiple players join a world and then explore new chunks. As the world approaches 1GB in size, it will begin to crash with the same error reported by so many people. The larger the world gets, the more frequent the crash will occur.

I was able to accomplish this within a few hours last night on a brand new world(1.14.1). I invited my community to join the world and instructed them to explore new chunks. They were provided with elytras and rockets to expedite the process. After about 4-5 hours with only up to 6 players on at one time, the world reached 700MB and experienced its first crash. The world is now 1GB in size and can only stay online for up to 30 minutes at a time before crashing (if players are exploring new chunks).

This bug is game breaking and killing large multiplayer communities. The only semi-official response to this bug was last month saying that developers are looking into it. With it being such an easy problem to reproduce I feel it would at least have a confirmed status if that were true. Maybe you forgot about us over the Holiday break?

"@unknown added a comment - 09/Dec/19 12:27 PM
Thank you for your patience while we investigate this ongoing issue - our developers are looking into why this is still happening."

I know that bug reports are not a location for discussion, but we are all begging for just a little attention and acknowledgement that this is a real issue which the team wishes to resolve. Any comment from a team member would give us a tremendous amount of confidence and hope.

Here are download links for the world files shortly after the crashing issue began. Please keep in mind that once the world is loaded, multiple players(3+) need to be in game & exploring brand new chunks to reproduce the issue.

According to Mega_spud on Twitter, the bug is being modified, but when it will be updated has not been decided.

adding onto what Stephen Hegel said, You don’t even need the world to be multiplayer, just load enough chunks and the world will crash (gave myself a high level of speed)

migrated

I have a large world (over 2GB) that is still crashing the same way, even after the newest update (1.14.20). It’s not the console, it’s the 1.14.1 update that broke things. I never had crash issues until then. I wish Mojang could fix this.

migrated

Minecraft (Bedrock) - Beta 1.14.30.51 is also effected by this bug

migrated

This problem continues on 1.14.20. I have no lack of storage or memory. My world is about 1.8 GB. It can be reproduced at will. Moving several thousand blocks in one direction will trigger it every time. This can be in explored or unexplored territory. Find a nice long stretch of ocean, desert or plains and just start running, riding on a boat, horse, etc. The crash will occur. I have to shut the game down and restart it. I can not simply reload the world and continue. It just hangs if I attempt this. I have not lost items I am holding, or carrying. However, if I am riding a horse, boat, etc. these are often not there when the game reloads. Usually, it am a few seconds back in game play from where I was before the crash. The workaround is to periodically pause and save the game. The game has caused me to die several times, as it respawned me over the edge of a cliff I was near before the crash, etc. I suspect this has not risen to a high priority, as it will not occur as long as you stay in a confined area, or at least it hasn't for me. I have several houses which are a distance apart connected with overworld and nether railways. So, I used minecarts to travel between them. The carts are lost with the crash, as a note. I am playing Bedrock Edition. We also have another computer with Java Edition which does not seems to suffer this problem.

migrated

I have a world that is two year's old,
and it's over 5 GBS do wish they could fix it sooner then later

migrated

For me this helped the problem in Minecraft for windows 10

  1. Make copy of the world's folder in which you have this problem. (Later this copy is called  "Problem world"

  2. Make a new world with same seed as the problem world. Make sure you're using same generation settings as the problem world (world type: infinite, flat or old and structures on etc.)

  3. Make sure the terrain really looks the same in a new generated world that was in your problem world then save the new world and quit Minecraft

  4. Go to your new worlds folder and copy the level.dat file

  5. Go and delete the level.dat file from your problem worlds folder and paste the new one in

  6. Open the copy of your problem world in Minecraft

Hope this will help you too

migrated

@BulkyCreature, still no fix. Hopefully soon it will be properly fixed by the devs. I've been having this problem since 1.13. The world size is over 5GB. And like many other people here, it crashes and gives this error when you travel to different chunks of the map. If you stay in one area for a period of time, it won't crash right away but it will inevitably do so. I also tried doing a bedrock server to see if maybe that would fix it too but it still crashes. I've also deleted many resource packs and behavior packs to see if that was the issue but it wasn't. Also this is the only world on my hard drive, as I use a dedicated PC for minecraft bedrock edition for me and my friends to join in because doing this is way better than a realm.

migrated

Just to confirm (as if we needed it) that v.1.14.20 on Switch is still borked.

My world has somehow shrunk in size from over 1GB to 327.2MB since this critical problem began almost 2 years ago, but at least that shows you it's not really a file size problem.

Yours forever locked out of Minecraft,

James

migrated

still no fix 1.15 beta. What the hell happened?

Storage Issue prevents us from exploring new chunks, and multiplay also causes world corruption. The bug that seriously interferes with the game has been left unattended for months. Under these circumstances, the new update means nothing.

migrated

I just tested my world on 1.14.3, still doesn't work

migrated

Still not working. Traveled about 1/4 of the distance of a fully zoomed out map and crash. Crash. Crash. We wait for these hot fixes/updates for weeks/months and just....nothing. Well, I hope everyone who's problem might have been solved have fun. I guess.

migrated

worse is in the public builds you can’t cross play server files; so what limit overrides are you patching around instead of fixing the bugs ?

cause clear ya realm from one code base should work offline but doesn’t; only will when you manually edit out entity data and spawns before load.

even when you do this however your code gives a max of minutes before crashing from overloaded data; write the error codes to console aka the chat log PLEASE; follow in MS footstep without registry errors on crash our feedback is pretty moot.

We need more controls over the software we paid and continue to pay over for.

migrated

With 500+GB free on C:, I started a new single player creative world on a fresh install of Bedrock v 1.14.30. After exploring ~ 10,000 blocks away for a day and the world size reaching ~800MB, it happened again. No fix in sight! Minecraft is UNPLAYABLE until fixed!!!

migrated

I am just exhausted. I started a new world after reinstalling as well back in November when my world started crashing with this error. My Original world that I play with my son is 3.9 GIGS....but the new world I started in November started crashing the same way once I reached 780MB....exploration is at the heart of the reason my son and I play. We mine for supplies and materials but he loves putting a giant map wall up and then filling each map. All the awesome things out there....foxes, Bees....Pillager raids....Pillager patrols....we can't really experience any of it without worrying about the game crashing. It just sucks.

migrated

Still.  It happens.  The lagging. The crashing.  I'm 64 yrs. old and want to live long enough to play this game without serious issues. Officially putting you on my prayer list now.

migrated

Can we get a response from development? This issue has blown up from since 1.13 and you guys don't even provide a way for us to revert which update we are on. I've been patient but this is absolutely absurd. Part of me thinks that this one bug report is consistent of multiple bugs that have been put on the back burner for far too long but I'll give you a hint. Aquatic added some serious bugs BUT it was the Fox update that really kicked off the severity of these crashes. Something tells me people are exploring part of their world that finally generates something that corrupts their game data. Or it really is a chunk loading issue that is causing crashes. I want to release a multiplayers world that I have been working on since October all while I have been watching this bug kick off (1.12 worked absolutely fine) and you guys keep releasing updates even with a significant amount of content before fixing a game breaking issue. I hope that these new updates aren't compiling on top of bugs from previous updates but seriously please let us know what's going on or if there has been any success. Please look at whatever you added in 1.13 that could maybe be the cause of this. 1.13 was a big update and while this issue has been around for awhile I think the problem most of us are facing stems from 1.13. Please give us some sort of a response

Edit: A bug I came across - When I had some players design an area they were putting individual water blocks in the air... Eventually this caused a problem and the realm kept crashing over and over within a few minutes of being on it... This was on realms so I didn't get the pink screen but maybe water block updates have something to do with it. I reverted the world to before it ever had them and I haven't had the same issue since. Im not sure Im just trying to think of ideas so this can hopefully get fixed

migrated

Where is the fix for this? Same issue and only one response in a month of waiting.
https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCPE-61563

UNFORTUNATELY, for us who are experiencing this, the only thing you can do is to start a new game. All your work in this file is on hold until they take this seriously. As a programmer, I suspect it is an easy fix of upping the memory cap but they will not do it. Considering everyone is near or close to 1 tb in memory size it appears they need a compact and repair feature like ACCESS has for their database.

migrated
  1. This bug also has been reported on the Xbox platform but has been migrated to here.  I still cannot open two worlds which are less than 200 mg.

  2. Xbox One was bought with minecraft console edition.  Upgraded to bedrock and now have expanded one world on bedrock, the other world was created in bedrock

  3. here is the report that exactly reproduces my problem https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCPE-50586

  4. When I first had the problem I could fix it by resetting the xbox to factory settings with games. Happened again a week later and now two worlds won't sync or load.  Tried the following to save them.

    1. Resetting the Xbox

    2. Calling microsoft and reporting it, repeatedly

    3. Asking for assistance from online MS help

    4. Deleting worlds

    5. Deleting xbox profile and reloading

    6. Deleting and reinstalling minecraft

    7. Adding external memory drive

    8. Deleting other games

    9. Buying Xbox Gold live

    10. Buying a realm

    11. Connecting Xbox with a hard wire to the internet

  5. half the xbox internal memory is open to me as well as all of the memory on the external harddrive.  Nothing has worked.  I just want to save my two worlds.  I will convert them to anything I need to, downgrade them to Console whatever.  Please fix this.

migrated

Mojang, your bug killed my pet cat. How do you sleep at night?

migrated

MCPE-21416 is most likely responsible for the cat despawning. This bug sometimes triggers that bug. Go upvote that one.

migrated

Same issue

migrated

On Windows 10, it might be a virtual memory issue. This can be changed in control panel>System>Advanced System Settings>Advanced>Performance>Advanced. If the section laveled Virtual Memory is 0 mb, try switching the size to system managed.

migrated

Very frustrating as this hasn't been fixed.  I understand that complaining and expressing frustration won't make bug fixes come sooner, but the fact that this thread and this bug have been plaguing avid players with large world sizes for 2 years with no real solution is sort of mind boggling.  After reading all the posts in this error thread it is honestly depressing to see that Minecraft devs aren't giving this gamebreaking issue the attention and high priority that it needs.  As a community, what can we do to make Mojang more aware of how serious this issue is?  I feel like this problem is impossible to fix from the work of an individual.

migrated

I notice a bar was added on PS4, the memory indicated is far less than is available on the PS4s hard drive. This limit is similar to what I’m observing on Nintendo Switch. What causes this limitation? The limit appears to be 15GB on both systems and I run out of space on PS4 if I convert more than one old world.

migrated

I just tested the latest beta version (1.15.0.53) and it is assumed that Storage Issue was fixed.

  • I set the rendering distance to its maximum and flew around my world(about 3GB) at a high speed for quite a while, but there was no "storage issue."

I hope others will also test it on the latest beta and share the results.

migrated

i tried what Andrew said a couple posts up by changing virtual memory to system managed(was set at recommended of 3996 MB) and did seem to help overall performance of the computer but had no effect on this issue... crashed 500 blocks from start with chunks set to 40.

Refer to my post on Dec 1st, 2019 for helpful tips on Managing this issue.

What Otocin posted above is encouraging. Lets hope So. Good luck

migrated

I am getting reports from my community that this bug has been patched in the recent beta. A few team members have also confirmed that some worlds that were previously crashing are not experiencing this issue on the new beta build.

migrated

This bug has been fixed in beta 1.15.0.53

migrated

When is this beta version likely to go live for the full game?

migrated

That's great! For some people... Nintendo switch players can't join the beta so we will be left out to dry for sometime.  But at least there is a little hope now, I think it was in November my main world broke with this bug and it hasn't been played since.

migrated

What James Day said....is there a timeline? My son and I have been basically stonewalled since november! If this is true, I cannot wait to see his face when I let him know he's not going to crash!

migrated

I'm guessing it will be out when it's ready. They need to NOT rush any updates. That's how we got into this.

migrated

But whatever they did in the last beta they need to put into a hotfix and get out sooner than a  1.15 release

migrated

I wouldn't complain if they did that. I miss this game. Hopefully they know what they did to fix it. Other than the version number up top is it actually posted anywhere that Mojang confirmed a fix for this? This is definitely fixed? We are sure?

Maybe if something was done about this it would not be discussed. Considering I worked in IT for 20 + seeing that this bug made it into production and that nothing has been done on this in over 2 years it shows a lack of quality for a product we all paid for. There is no excuse for this kind of bug to be affecting us today. Also, since almost every post I find on this states they have plenty of memory, this appears to be a memory management issue in Minecraft code itself and not the user's computer. It would be nice if you took this problem seriously.  As a paying customer, I have no mercy that this is going out to the whole team. Someone should take care of it. This is a polite way to say get your asses in gear.

migrated

Are people trying the newer betas? Does this still seem to be fixed?

migrated

I’ve been trying new betas and it has not said that yet

migrated

Hey Mojang - look another corrupted Bedrock World!

When are you going to fix this? It's killing the game!!

migrated

I've ran into this bug as well, running a world on the Windows version of Bedrock dedicated server.
I copied the world to my local machine, and noticed that when I load minecraft, before I load the local copy of the world, it is ~550mb. After I load it once, it jumps to ~850mb.

I was able to fix the issue by opening the world in MCCToolchest, and deleting a bunch of regions on the outskirts of our world that we weren't using.
I've uploaded the corrupted world here:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1RTxEKMo9uBkatCkjQZ-y3yR1gCClbPlg

migrated

Fere Free, fix is in 1.15. You would know if you bothered to read.

migrated

People with Nintendo switch can't join the beta, so still completely broken for them. Also is beta available to dedicated server, irregardless it would make the world unplayable for the switch.

migrated

please only post problems that help devs with this one and not rumored stuff like 1.15 releases this week since we dont have shield banners yet.

migrated

Well don't worry because according to Aubrey Norris they are skipping the 1.15 release. So we can all keep sitting tight.

migrated

^^^ According to the wiki. (So not an official source). 1.15 is being moved to be merged with the release of 1.16... My assumption is because they want to release it to have symbolic moment of Bedrock finally catching up to Java (minus a few features difficult for the engine). I hope they hustle with it and it's not something that delays us further because someone has their heads a little high in the clouds.

migrated

Cody, not from the wiki. Aubrey Norris is head community manager. That is an official source.

I'm sure they have a reason for wanting to do that but what might not be being considered is that a lot of us on here stopped playing because this bug ruins the game for us. We were waiting for this fix so we could finally play our worlds again. The decision to skip the update till whenever the nether update comes out (and probably breaks half the game again) really screwed a lot of us over. I'd really like to know if that was even a factor when they made the call. 😕

migrated

@Christopher I don't think they consider us a large enough "class" to worry about!

migrated

I'm quite sure if there are not enough space in a room you won't be able to fit more things, same goes for minecraft

migrated

I had this issue on a world like 2 gb in size where this same error happends and i have like +50 gb of memory left

migrated

happens when you fly around extremely fast with extremely high render distances or fly in creative for like an hour. Happens because minecraft only uses 2gb of ram. My win10 has 8gb of ram. Happened in non-beta. My computer had 800 gb of storage space left.

migrated

I've been hitting this bug for some time on Windows 10 Bedrock edition. I have 132 GB of free space on C: and 44GB of available memory. The world size is 1.1GB. Can't generate any new chunks without running into this error.

migrated

Knowing our luck they'll go another 6 months with a game breaking bug that for most of us was introduced after 1.12 for most multiplayer issues. But at least they get to make us wait longer and throw it into 1.16 instead of just patching the stupid thing. Kind of disgusting that they are making people wait EVEN LONGER to get their fix

migrated

And here is another example of this MAJOR issue with Bedrock that Mojang refuse to acknowledge.

So many people are loosing worlds because of this bug - which has been around for YEARS

migrated

This is still a super huge problem with a realm I'm playing on.

migrated

getting the same thing with download of my server world 1.14.3...

migrated

This happens to me as well. My world is from console but it occurs on all versions.

migrated

I play on Windows 10 bedrock edition and this bug has had been affecting me since the Bee update and has made it so I can not risk playing on my favourite world of 4 years.

migrated

A change log note for today’s 1.14.60 update:

“Fixed an issue that showed a false prompt that a device was out of storage space (MCPE-32501)“

Can anybody confirm?

migrated

Yes, confirmed! Just got done exploring out from the center of my world after the update and not a single crash or message saying im out of storage space. Traveled out 6000 blocks+ and even loaded some new chunks increasing my world size past 1GB ; even finding bees for the first time in my world. All without any issues of any sort.

migrated

Looking good here so far! No crashing with 2 players going out 10k blocks!!!!!

migrated

I'm still having the same issue. I enter my world, and it gives me the same prompt 5 seconds later, despite clearly having enough storage space

[Mojang] Mega_Spud (Jay)

Resolving this issue as fixed.

@unknown - As your world might be a specific issue, could you please provide a copy of the world save?

migrated

Here's the world in question:
TU 19.zip

Edit: I opened my world in a 3rd party world editor, and it appears as though one or more of the chunks is corrupted. I'm guessing that's what caused the issue.

migrated

Seems to be fixed over here! Thank you to whomever finally solved this after many months!! We are in your debt!

Issue fixed for me.

this problem is Finally fixed with Hotfix 1.14.6... so play that instead of betas. Hopefully this won't return with 1.16, that would suck. dealt with this for six months. nice to be able to travel on higher chunk loads without problems. Good Luck

migrated

I play on Bedrock edition on the Xbox one (1.14.60), and it says in the bug report that it has been fixed but all of a sudden none of my worlds load, they just say please free up space low storage, even though I have 150GB of space left.

Not fixed on my Kindle fire on PE version 1.16.0 started on version 1.14.60. Very frustrating

Same issue in a World hosted in XBOX One.
Version 1.16.1

We are used to playing up to three players, in an XBOX One console and through LAN or Internet with one player in Windows 10.
Two days ago we went to the "new" Nether World and explored 3 or 4 biomes, two-to-three hours. We wanted to play the day after and got the issue.

World is ~58Mb in an XBOX One profile, synced in 2 consoles.

Solutions attempted:

  • Minecraft Uninstall and Install.

  • XBOX Factory setting preserving Users and Games data (Fail).

  • Minecraft User profile data dropped (in console, not all devices), then logged again so XBOX synced user data automatically (world included) from Microsoft User Data Service (Fail).

As 2 XBOX One consoles are synced, We will review the other console with no-expectations in a few days. If failure persists, We may try to upload data to Realms Plus, or else… while trust on the software persists, start a new World.

Not as important, but only a note, then will this note be read by those that must read it:

We (the three-of-us) started playing all-together a few weeks ago, so one player decided to aquire a Minecraft license for Windows 10. We've been also considering the Realms-Plus service and to wide our community; however, even while Minecraft a game is, such-as-life, Money and Time is invested in this long-term game, so, while the former is aquirable and cheap, the later like trust, is not.

So besides the expected solution, We kinldy request, on behalf of any user, please display a clearer message than "You are out of data storage space and Minecraft is unable to save your progress." when clearly, no storage issues are related to the so-called-bug. Hacking something to make it work is rewarding, however, We paid for it.

So here is a Consumer Warranty: We'll all know about the solution, or not. Yet, We will know.

May the Mine-Craft be with You.

migrated

I've been having this same issue on PS4 ever since I updated to the Nether update.

migrated

I cannot reproduce in 1.16. It seems fixed now.

migrated

Dearest thcrafter06,

Bug persists, two XBOX One consoles. "Seems..." fixed not.

In 1.16.1 try instead.

Thank You, but not.

migrated

Sorry i said that, it happens but is way harder to reproduce.

migrated

It needs to be noted that this bug is an error message occurring IN GAME. Your world will force close with the error "you are out of data storage space...". People are reporting (and posting screenshots of) being told they are out of storage space at the Minecraft main menu/title screen on Xbox and Ps4. That is NOT the same thing as this bug. That is most likely occurring because you are out of storage space for Minecraft. It doesn't matter how much space is available on your hdd. Microsoft and Sony hardcode limits on how much disk space an application (a game) is allowed to occupy. You can have a free terabyte of space on your hdd but still be out of space for Minecraft. This bug is similar to MCPE-55137 in that it occurs during gameplay. It has nothing to do with running of space for creating new worlds.

Sorry, but I felt the need to un-muddy the waters a bit. This is a terrible bug that needs to be fixed  before any new content is pushed. SAME goes for MCPE-55137.

Edit: This also applies to Nintendo Switch.

migrated

Dearest Christopher,

Let me "un-muddy the waters" enough, so You realize where this message error occurs.

  • Please refer to section:  Issue Links > Duplicated By.

Then, after having read, You will realize that the issue is reported not only as an "IN GAME" bug, and that Nintendo, Android, PC, XBOX, and PS platforms rise it. All those cases, excepting none, marked are as a Duplicate of MCPE-32501, so that's how We all end up here.

One last and important thing:

Can You provide evidence as to "Microsoft and Sony hardcode limits on how much disk space an application (a game) is allowed to occupy."?

If not, then You would be misleading all readers.

Kindly… Please‥ Don't.

migrated

I have read every duplicate report of both MCPE-32501 and MCPE-55137. From what I have seen, issues that are similar often get incorrectly marked as duplicates and send the people to the wrong reports. Say what you will, this bug still has nothing to do with running out of disk space at the title screen. It never did. You will need to do your own research. I am also not here to educate you on how consoles work. You would like to know where I first heard about that? Helen Angel. Do you consider her a reputable source? I then did my own research and what little info I was able to find supported what she said. I'm not going to go back down the rabbit hole to find info for you. You can do your own research if you like. I made a statement of fact. That is all. There isn't a thing in the world I need to prove to you.

You seem to be confused and you supplement your ignorance with that cute little snarky attitude of yours. You were rude to someone above for no reason as well. I assure you, no one is impressed. I'm sure you won't be able to stop yourself from going off again after I post this. That would fit your profile. However, this is the ONLY rise you will ever get out of me. I have much better things to do than argue with kids on the internet. Have a nice night, dearest 😉

migrated

Can You provide a link where to validate what You presume on behalf Helen's words?
That would help a lot.
I kindly wait.
Sweet dreams, Chris.

migrated

Not fixed in latest beta. Strangely, this doesn't seem to affect me on mobile, only on Xbox.

migrated

Before I found this one I made my own bug report (MCPE-92519). It shows proof (clip) of the bug popping up and that I have more than enough space on my system and on my Minecraft worlds storage whatever it's called.

Edit.

It also only seems to happen with this certain world. I've created more worlds to see if I'm even able to do   so and to try and reproduce the bug but nothing happens to them.

Problem is still happening in

Started happening frequently after last update.

It also happened in my PS4 playing bedrock 1.16.100 as both were playing in the same world.

Please fix this mojang!!

migrated

It fixed for me over time. I just had to replace the world.

migrated

Still no action on this issue?

migrated

@BDSAC There has been no movement on this issue for over two years! Mojang clearly do not know how to fix this or even what causes the issue, they just won't admit it!

migrated

@James Day, they actually did fix it back in April/May, but maybe it was just a freak accident? I hope they do find a solution soon though. Sucks having to create a new world every four hours or so. ;.;

migrated

@Holly Mitchell The problem has never gone away for me, I've checked my original world with every new update. I gave up ever having it be playable months ago and created a new world. I'm scared of exploring too far for fear of this bug happening again, but it's better than no Minecraft.

migrated

the same is happening to me also it tells me im out of storage data

migrated

I ran into this issue today. The folder in minecraftWorlds is only 35Mb. Is there a way to get debug logs so players can help themselves?

migrated

I'm going to venture a guess that this is about as high on the priority list as most other bugs for console players, i.e. not even on the list. But. I was playing my main world moments ago and got the sudden "You are out of storage space unable to save" error message and was dropped in the main menu. The world is I believe 237 MB, nowhere near the maximum; and I have two other worlds, one of which is 120MB and one which is 30MB. Loads of disk space and an external storage drive on my PS4, so very much not an actual issue of hardware being out of space. The big problem, however, is that this message immediately corrupted the save data. I've already lost one world I worked very hard on to a bug that will never be resolved (the "there was a problem loading your world" bug) and I'm not keen on losing another. If we could get an update, or even just a list of things we can provide to help resolve the issue, it would really be appreciated. As it is I'm starting to regret spending money on the console version when it breaks more often than it works.

migrated

I am having this problem on my PS5, the strange is is though if i use the savefiles on my release PS4 (vanilla) it runs fine.

@Debout Vivien Sorry to say it, but you should probably go ahead and just start a new, smaller world like I did. This Issue was created in 2018 and since then Mojang have clearly shown they are unable or unwilling to fix this major bug.

I just bumped into this error (PC-WIN10-BEDROCK), is there any solution ?

@Christian Portilla We recently passed the three year anniversary of the creation of this Issue, and the problem had been around at least 6 months before that. So, no, Mojang has still not fixed this.

Hi mojag I just want to ask you if you are solving this problem becouse I love new upgrates but I would like to play it on my main world.

Have now got this error on our multiplayer world... On windows 10 i have changed the partition size so now have over 200Gb free but this error still pesists... we dont want to start a new world as this one has taken 1 load of us some time to build and explore to the point where we have worked very hard on our builds thus far and do not want to lose our hard work!

I encountered this a little while ago to a lesser extent. I had no purple or missing texture screens but the message showed up.

Encountering this issue on PS5, usually when travelling 500+ blocks away from host. World size of 953.1mb. Searched for a fix and found others who are encountering this with the same world size of 953.1mb. 🤔

Currently having the exact issue. I know I have the data space for it. And my world is 953.1mb, just like Baris mentioned. Super frustrating. Mojang please fix this!!

Can confirm I am having this issue on PS4 also and have been prevented from playing Minecraft at all for a good month now (since ca. 22/07/2021).

I definitely have over 10GB spare on both system and external storage, and I am using a first generation PS4.

I can however play on other people's worlds and on realms, but any action that requires Minecraft interacting with any data storage (world creation, world deletion, playing in an existing world stored locally) ends up in this error message followed by a crash.

I have tried re-installing a few times and deleting worlds corrupted by the crashes but still no luck - I can't play in my own worlds without corrupting them within seconds on loading in.

What can we do, just wait for the next patch?

For those hitting the error - is it crashing for all of you? If so, is it crashing and closing Minecraft, or causing a freeze/softlock?

Also, could you please confirm the versions in which this is happening? (eg is it affecting the most recent hotfix? Could you confirm which version you see in the bottom right of the main game screen?)

The problem still occurs. When it happens it makes your screen stuck on a dirt background with the text and a button that leads you out back to your worlds page. It doesn't crash your game or freeze it from what I recall.

My game has on some occasions crashed although most of the time it kicks me out of my world and brings me back to the main menu. It’s happening on this latest version and it happened to me as far back as November of last year.

We are now having this issue with the new update. Any world we try to download on the PS4 it says it's out of space and when playing sometimes the mobs and characters turn pink. I'm guessing because of the space issue and the world's start to corrupt we cant join any of the public servers atm since some have downloads that are required and they cant be downloaded. It's almost unplayable now. I've uninstalled and re-installed the game and moved all my other games to an external drive but Minecraft is still having issues. Never had issues like this from previous updates. we are on version 1.17.41.

Still seeing this error on Xbox one. 1 world. Deleted all but 1 world. Deleted all but 2 world templates. Emptied the cache. Removed player data from other user accounts. Still seeing this issue. Trying to get Minecraft to uninstall to reinstall. Minecraft Bedrock Edition.

I was playing on a world just fine and was kicked out to a screen with the message about not enough storage and Minecraft can't save, go to menu. I have more then enough memory on my phone but I went ahead and deleted all my old worlds, resource packs and cache but still won't let me into that world or a duplicate world at an earlier save. The worlds are only 70MB.

This is still an issue. Happening frequently for me on PS5. I think this issue is especially prevalent with PS5. I've played this world on PS4 for weeks and now all of a sudden I switched to PS5 and if I play it on PS5 and save it, and then come back it acts as if it is corrupted. If I revert my world to PS4 it works again, but if I save it and come back (and close the app) it will be broken. It's happened every time.

Resolving as we believe this is fixed in the latest version.

Bedrock version 1.18.31 - PS5 - still having the same problem. World size is 953.1MB. After doing some digging, get the crash saying I’m out of space and need to download the backup version again.

MCPE-55137 , it is still happening. This bug is not fixed yet.

The version is currently 1.19.41. I am still having the issue, and I get a large untextured background with the same message. My world, Meridian, is 3 GB.

2024- I'm having this issue on the Series S and I've tried everything I can. I can't load into my world without chunks not loading at all or it kicking me due to no space. Deleted all but two corrupted worlds that I can't delete for some reason and the two worlds I play. World size is less than half a GB, around 380 MB.

January 2025 on Xbox 1S in version 1.21.51 this is still an issue. I lost my 2 year world to this bug. Moving the world to a realm or to different devices doesn't help and clearing storage does nothing.

From what I can tell, this has been going on for years and there is still no fix, despite it being such a frustrating bug for console players, especially for those with forever worlds. I've seen many tickets like this opened and then 'resolved' because it's been duplicated elsewhere, but no matter how many linked tickets I visit I can't find one that's being actively worked on and updated.

Please, devs, do more about this even if it won't be fixed immediately. I just want hope that I could come back to my world one day.
