When using the menu in the psvr it will cause the menu to glitch behind objects and you cant use it. This also happens if you open chests. The menu cannot be used unless you are outside in a wide area.

Also happens on Windows 10 MR, can hardly play in VR due to this issue.
video for it from PC Windows MR https://youtu.be/T1xnXzQLEOA
PSVR player here. This is unplayable now. How does this stuff get past QA testing? It's not like it's something rare that a QA tester wouldn't notice You see it as soon as you start playing. Please fix.
This is also happening on Window 10 VR client. I mentioned that in my bug report but it looks like it is essentially the same issue.
Just to confirm having same issue on PSVR - PS4 Pro following 1.16.2 update.
Same here playing in VR on PS5. The other fixes are great but this breaks the game in VR
I really hope they fix this soon. Its unplayable in it's current state. It's not just some menus it's all menus. Any HUD really. I have no idea how this got past testing. Its blatantly obvious immediately upon playing in vr. I noticed it within 2 minutes.
VR is currently unplayable. Can we get a fix quick please? And from here on out, would it be possible to actually perform the most basic of quality tests before rolling out an update?? How the best selling game of all time manages to release updates that break the game is baffling.
I should get reimbursed the money for my realm until the game is playable again.
This bug makes it really difficult to use the interface. The only temporary solution that I can think of is to physically take a step back for the menu to move out of the block. This may be related to the X-ray bug fix, which makes seeing through blocks impossible.
Please fix the menus, 3 weeks without Minecraft in PSVR was hard enough but now the update still didn’t fix it? The menus used to scale to where you were so perfectly. God I hope it’s not another 3 weeks
This bug makes VR unplayable on Windows 10 Oculus Rift S also. I've had to revert to 1.16.100.
Yeah it's a bit sad that after all the text, cloud and wall art bugs that not even 20 seconds into the update we found one that's 10x worse. You can work around it by going into the living room VR mode to change out your inventory but it's hardly a VR game at that point.
THANK YOU, @MathewBeg, for that workaround. Might have been obvious to others, but I hadn't thought to go back into Living Room mode to work with the crafting table, chest, or furnace. I did realize that I could place tables/chests/furnaces outside without walls around them and stand on a single block about 3 blocks in front of those tables/chests/furnaces; standing on that slightly elevated pedestal I can see the full menus without occlusion. But for base camps at the bottom of slot canyons or inside small caves, that workaround isn't useful.
Sure would be nice if someone from Mojang would actually add helpful comments like that here, but it's not happening. If anyone else knows a forum or blog where Mojang does try to help users, please clue me in.
The workaround is still a pain - wish you could just roll back to the previous version on a ps5. It’s a shame you can’t poke your head through a wall anymore - loved being able to peer through and see the mine structures I’d carved out below!
Also having this problem on Oculus Rift.
I had to give up on this bug that makes it totally unplayable and play other games awaiting the next update !
The MC team makes no test on any VR platform, it's a fact, so obvious, and bring a bad image to Microsoft, inacceptable.
This bug has really annoyed me. It took me less than a few seconds to play and see they had broken it carelessly. It’s insane that they don’t playtest in VR.
A week without a fix is ridiculous, this bug has given me migraines, and neck pains. You guys have the best selling game of all time, this is unacceptable. It was working fine before you patched it. Dont advertise VR minecraft through ads when basic functions do not work.
This bug is cross platform, eg Windows 10 PC Oculus Rift S not just PSVR. And along with a slew of other bugs introduced with this update which I've posted (but which haven't been responded to) it makes VR entirely unplayable. I had to drop back to version 1.16.100 in order to just be able to play (though that means you can't play on any of your own worlds).
This is very upsetting. Just uploaded my own images, hoping this would shed more light on this issue
It is so annoying. I am trying to file a freah bug report with the updated version (v1.16.201) and it says it doesn’t exist. The feeling of having something you recently paid for taken away so carelessly, and then having the process of reporting it made so difficult makes me resent them taking my money.
This issue can’t be part of the game, it destroys playability. If it had played like that when I bought it (specifically because of PSVR mode) I would have been looking for refunds...
PSVR on PS5 here, same issue. Inventory / Crafting / Menu is only usable if you drop out of first person into living room mode
Rift S. 1.16.201. Same issue. Looks just like the pictures. It's pretty tedious having to go into living room mode to do anything.
Not denying it sucks but until they fix it there are workarounds that others aren’t listing here. You don’t need to exit immersive mode to check menus. Whatever you’re building, put a one block barrier in front of it and quickly lean forward to access the menu, then lean back to see the menu on the block that is 1 block away. I hope this helps others who desperately want to play this game we all love.
Hi, just commenting to say this has been a big issue for me as well. I would love for this to be fixed as the Vr version is a good time otherwise.
Same problem.
Same issue here, just like the pictures. It's super annoying
is there a eta on this getting fixed, vr is basically unplayable, and honestly reg minecraft kinda boring to me, i got a realms server cause i was enjoying vr so much and now i cant play vr
Same issue on the Rift S. Have to be straight with a wall and lean in to access a menu then lean back to be able to interact with anything.
Same issue on Rift. windows 10.
VR unplayable.
It’s frustrating and yet I find myself playing it even with the menu glitch. It’s that good of a game. That’s why we all care so much. Sometimes it feels like we care more about it than the people who made it. Don’t let it kill the game for you. One day this amazing game will be fixed. Keep your heads up, happy new year
It's very frustrating that this has not been resolved or looked at yet. This is a major game breaking issue...
Finally got time to play the game and it's broken. This issue needs to be fixed ASAP. It's very concerning that it's been open since early December.
Just bought Minecraft on my PS4 to enjoy it in VR... Very sad. How it can be unresolved? Minecraft is one of the most immersive games for PSVR and yet it doesn't receive proper attention from the developers. This is unthinkable.
This is a frustrating issue. Holidays are over and a new-hopefully much better-year has started. I will practice patience while awaiting resolution. Stay safe out there, Devs and continue to keep those masks on and hands and keyboards washed, avoid all friends and family who endanger you by not bothering with safety protocols, and work hard 🙂 Thanks!
This is also a problem on Oculus

it also happens in oculus
Made an account just because of this issue, happens to me with occulus as well.
It's been almost 2 months since this issue first started. Can we at least be given a little more specific feed back on how this issue is being fixed and possibly when we could expect it by? I recognize that you have recognized our "frustration at certain game features or mechanics not working as you would always like or expect" but this is a pretty big "feature" that doesn't work anymore. There is a big push and release for Minecraft VR in the Fall, and now it doesn't even work. I already own the game on PC but decided to buy it again on Playstation only for the VR. It would just be nice to know when we can all expect this to be fixed, or if honestly y'all don't care. It worked just fine two updates ago. Then the clouds and picture bug happened, then that gets fixed and now this. Please just give us details and not the lame, generic, customer service "we assure you we are actively looking into a solution" line. Just be real with us. Thanks.
I also have the same issue with the Oculus Rift S. VR is not playable because of the screen hiding behind everything. Can only access it when in a wide open area. Usually when something gets rolled out like this and it breaks something you dont just let it be for months on end. You either come up with a quick fix or you revert the fix back to the original state until the fix become available.
I would ask everyone that reading this message that please, ask for help on Twitter, marking Mojang account and pointing to this issue MCPE-109860
Unfortunately, I fell like they just ignoring this issue, probably due to the Cave and Cliffs path.
Like many of us, I boult on PS4 to use the VR system, just to my frustration, realize that is broken.
I am one of the early users of Minecraft when Mojang sells lifelong accounts.
All we asking is to have one dev, to make the hotfix, I not sure about the complexity, but I know that the feature was working before, so is possible to figure out a workaround.
Please Mojang, don't abandon your VR community!
Thank you.
I totally agre to speak like regarding this issue
there have been a patch on PS4 one week after the realease that hung the VR experience.
This issue is really serious, but not that important.
I play minecraft back just thanks to VR
It's a total waste of money for those who bought only for the VR experience.
And there are many other bugs... the only game that usually crashes on PS4. But it's another concern....
What is disconcerting to me is that this was a newly introduced bug and was never an issue before. For being a two month old problem, and with no feedback to the community (other than trying to silence comments), it seems like this issue is not being taken seriously.
I for one owned Minecraft on my iPad through the apple store and had been using that to play, but when I was finally able to purchase an Occulus I re-bought the bedrock version on my windows pc JUST for the VR experience. Utterly disappointed I have to either try to use some sort of work around while playing (which is time consuming and takes you out of the moment) or just not play in VR.
Come on mojang... It can't be that hard to at least give an update on when you are likely to fix the abomination that is 1.16.200 for VR?
In the meantime for everyone else (on PC / Windows 10) having an issue trying to play MC in VR I had to rollback to 1.16.100 using this tool.. https://github.com/MCMrARM/mc-w10-version-launcher - It's open-source, but of course, do your own research on it and virus check it, etc.
I feel like this affects a smaller (VR) client base and its going to hang in low priority because it doesn't reach the votes needed. Its sad because this break the experience for many paying consumers.
Sorry to go off topic but how can I get an email when this is fixed? Or when a minecraft update is released so I can check to see if its fixed?
Issicus: toggle "watch this issue." under "vote for this issue." if you're that invested in it, you should toggle both on.
I'm playing the trial and I'm finally interested in Minecraft. With this bug however it is unplayable. This is disappointing as it seems the devs spent a good deal of time creating comfort and other interface options. I hope this is fixed soon because I'd love to buy the game and start enjoying minecraft but I'd be stupid to do so if it's taking this long to fix a game breaking bug like this that was introduced by a patch. Can't wait to play. Still have 80 minutes of trial left.
Howdy, I love mine craft and was gonna pick it up for psvr but thankfully I learned of this bug first. It seems pretty crippling so I’d appreciate a fix so I can grab this game soon! Thanks for making such a sweet game.
As I only play on VR, I have not been able to play in while. This bug is game-breaking and desperately needs to be addressed. At the very least you can roll-back the OpenVR stuff until it's thoroughly tested, the core VR functionality worked flawlessly on many platforms.
Thanks @ProfParzival for that work around. Although it stinks I have to use an older version at least for now I can play in VR without this annoyance. For those who haven't tried it scroll up to their comment for details. It took me a minute to set it up because you have to follow the instructions perfectly so be sure to do that.
I specifically selected version 1.16.100.4 (NOT one of the betas) to and launched it on my PC first, then hooked up the occulus and when it starts make sure to select NO for update minecraft and boom you are in VR in the older version without this problem.
Sidenote: I can't play my world from the latest version obviously which stinks again but I haven't really made anything magnificent yet so its okay for me for now. I do feel bad for people who can't play a world they worked hours on using this work around though.
Is there another bug report for PC? Because same problem on windows.
They should just add the option to fix the inventory to the offhand, like you can with the hud.
We need to keep the pressure on for Mojang to get VR back to being usable. As time goes by rolling back to the 1.16.100 release (which I've pointed out above can be done on PC but not in an official or supported way so please do your own due diligence if you go down that route) will no longer be an option.. they've already updated Realms and your own worlds will have likely been updated to 1.16.200 and therefore impossible to play on rollback. All the featured servers at least still seem to be compatible with 1.16.100 which is a relief however many of the non-featured servers are no longer supporting 1.16.100 😞
MOJANG: We're going to be getting to 3 months soon with absolutely no official response other than "we're working on it"..... Can you PLEASE tell us if this will be fixed and can you please tell us if the other VR issues that are introduced with 1.16.200 (all of which make VR unplayable) will ever be addressed. At least throw us a bone.

This morning - without an official update - the menu was not fixed but changed to where it is now extremely close to your face. No amount of backing up physically will solve the headache and no settings will allow you to adjust it. I adjusted the HUD but the menus are all stuck zoomed in and it finally killed it for me. I was playing with the glitch because I loved the game so much but this will sadly be the end to this dads morning ritual of playing Minecraft super early before the kids wake up. What a momentous relief it was in these times. Please fix it
Bryant, I just tested it and for me it is still the same broken it was before. Hope this helps..in a way!
I can clear up what confusion may have been gathered from what I said, this issue still persists even after changes made to the in game menu. It means they’re clearly making changes and working on the game, they just aren’t fixing the VR menu. Maybe they don’t realize that changes made to the regular game affect the VR version? It is crazy that the issue isn’t talked about anywhere, google search it and the latest news is from oct2020. Hate to say it but we might just want to give up on this one. It’ll get fixed by the big caves and cliffs update, I would hope.
I am having the same issue but on Windows PC with Oculus VR. This bug makes the game unplayable in VR as you are unable to chat to other players on the servers, unable to manage inventories and unable to transfer items to and from chests. The only current workaround is to deactivate VR to use any menu but this is clunky and breaks emersion. Please fix this soon.
I’m pretty sure it has something to do with the black boxes on the inside of all blocks. They added it in this update to stop us from seeing through the walls and believe it or not it made it a better game but I think the menu issue is tied to it. Still an easier bug to deal with than the clouds spinning. Thank god that’s not what we were stuck with this whole time.
I've only recently plunged into MinecraftVR and it is easily my most cherished game amongst my extensive library.
Unfortunately I'm also plagued with 'The Menu Bug' & it's becoming tiresome switching between 2D & VR in-game in order to access menu related interactions (crafting/inventory). Despite the otherwise flawless implementation of all the other VR related inputs & polish, this bug alone severely tarnishes the experience.
Could a workaround be implemented of having the menu lock onto the headset, with no pointer control, but instead using the thumb sticks to navigate the menus? Just an idea.
I hope you're able to remediate this issue. All the best!
Jamison..patch released today hasn’t fixed the issue but on the main patch notes it acknowledges this is a known issue. I think at least we can relax a little for the time being assuming that the very next patch will address it. Crazy it has taken this long, crazy. I do hope it isn’t another 3+ months until the next patch.
I've dropped playing Minecraft altogether due to the bugs that happened with the move to OpenXR and the latest updates. I play Minecraft exclusively in VR on PC, and when it was using the Oculus API, the game ran great. I can't believe that its been so many months and not a word about fixing the issues. There's the menu issues, bobbing can't be turned off, and snap turning can't be turned on just to name the worst ones for VR.
I’m playing this morning to see where we’re at and it’s still a thing, however, I’m confused because one aspect of the menu issue resolved itself. No update but change again within the game. One minute, the menu wasn’t working when going from above water to underneath. Usually the glitch hides it from sight until you’re underwater. Then all of a sudden, it is completely fixed. Menu works in transition.. Again, this is only in water. But please let this mean it’s the last week we’re without a properly working game.
Water and now glass. You guys are fixing it. Sneakily. But you’re fixing it. I’m glad you’re doing something about it, finally. Just feels weird how you’re hiding it from reports. Fixing things outside of an update leaves no trail making it seem like the problem never even existed. For 4 months straight. While you still sold the product. But yay, it’s getting fixed. Right?
Confirmed Bryant. However, were these things perhaps both implemented in the recent update? I connected with my playstation offline and glass/water are still fixed, as are extra VR accessibility features in the menu. I don’t think it is possible to fix it in increments without actual extra updates being downloaded, which they havent been in the last few days. As I was offline I know I was playing an offline build of the game updated last week. Perhaps they were both already fixed last week and you just didnt notice it included both glass and water? Promising signs at least!
No, I check every morning. These changes were not in the update. I’m certain.
Bryant, this means that changes to the user’s game code are being done all the while at a local level, without official patches. I imitially connected to the game today when online so it must have been downloaded then. In a way you could say it was sneaky, but frankly they can do it anyway they want if it is getting addressed. However my fear is that these might not even be intentional fixes, but the result of adjustment of other code without playtesting VR which is clearly what caused the problem in the first place.
They have acknowleged the problem in the last patch notes so at least that is something. Nice one for keeping us informed.
When i put my head in a block and open inventory the menu shrinks down enough so you can see what you are doing so that might be a helpful thing to know to fix the unable to see inventory indoors bug
I notice this bug is for the PSVR version. Is there an equivalent bug for the Windows version, or are they supposed to be merged together?
I came back to this game after a few months expecting this problem to be gone and was disappointed it's still a thing.
They have bodged a fix! We can play properly in VR again! Thank you everyone involved.
I don’t know if I would call it completely fixed. The menu is still pretty difficult to see but yeah it’s way better than before. Why the transparency within walls? What is that? If you can make the menu partially visible, you can make it fully visible. Please take the transparency away and let us see the full menu. Other than that, thank you for fixing a bug that lasted well over four months. What an achievement
The “fix” has caused ALL paintings to disappear from sight (not from the walls; they’re still there just invisible )
3 Months 17 Days and 13 Hours after this game breaking bug was reported to Mojang we FINALLY received a fix. It's a little dim in the menu portions that were once completely obscured by any block near you, but I would be lying if I said this wasn't infinitely better. Minecraft VR is playable again!
Paintings being invisible is actually unrelated to VR and is being tracked at MCPE-121718.
I don’t know if I would say unrelated seeing as I came across this bug playing in VR so VR should be included as another platform having the same issue.
Unrelated refers to the bug not being caused by VR.
Additionally the remark there states that the bug is already marked as "Multiple", of which VR is included.
Good because for me personally (as someone who played every single day during the menu glitch) I never had the issue until the newest update, meaning paintings were visible before and now they’re gone. Glad we’re including VR in the issue because it definitely has something to do with that specific perspective. Not seeing the menu was way worse than not seeing paintings.
What ever changes they made did nothing for pc version. Can still see paintings and inventory is still inside walls.
I'm starting to think they purposely broke it to see how many people complained.
Issicus...that is awful. Have you downloaded the latest update, released on the 7th (2 days ago)? I’m on PSVR but had assumed the bodged fix was platform wide.
I can confirm that for me, 1.16.220 update fixed this bug (WMR). Now I can play. Now the UI looks transparent when it's behind a block and it's perfectly readable and usable; good enough for me.
The current Fix is definitely no permanent solution, it works okayish for solid blocks with little to no texture, like concrete, but blocks with a texture even with a bit of transparency are obstructing the menu still way too much to be usable.
Especially blocks like leafs create a pattern as overlay on the menu, which makes it nearly impossible to see anything.
i don’t get why the menu had to be changed in the first place, it worked perfectly fine 6 months ago until someone decided to change it.
I can confirm the issue is still NOT SOLVED, there was some improvement with latest patch but with some blocks is still unviewable. A slider setting to set the transparency would help. but still the best route would be not obstructing at all.
VR player (Quest 2, Oculus Link Cable, Windows 10). Played a lot last year and really enjoyed it. I just returned to the game after about 6 months off and was very upset at how unplayable the game has become. The HUD intersects with everything and the controls are much harder / awkward to use. If I remember correctly the HUD used to simply exist as a 2D entity on top of the 3D world, which is perfectly fine. It doesn't need to be a 3D object floating in context with the rest of the world. The controller issue can be addressed by simply giving us the ability to remap our buttons.
Can we at least get an ETA on the fix for this ?
Still not fixed and really don't understand why this was changed when it worked perfectly for years. Can't it just be changed back? This issue becomes six months old in two days. This was my favorite VR experience, and you've robbed us all of it through six months of a worldwide pandemic when we needed it most.
So finally the menus are semi visible through the scenery. Not perfect but its playable on the rift. Just make sure you update at the Microsoft store.
Only took you 6 months. Thanks though.
Still unplayable on PSVR
Hey Dawe, I was totally fed up with this bug, but I have to say the last update has made the game playable for me on PSVR. The menu still clips thru the scenery but is at least just about visible now! Have you updated to the latest version?
It’s playable now Dawe. It’s not perfect, but it works. Check you’re on the latest version, which released a few weeks back. I had to manually “check for updates” on the playstation main screen. UI is now at least always visible but transluscent, so yes, not as good as before the December update messed it all up. They havent marked this issue as resolved, so hopefully it’ll improve further.
As today, 06/07/2021. I declare that on the latest update. Is still unplayable. It was much better before the December 2020 patch which introduced this error.
Regardless of whatever Hotfix Mojang has applied yet. IT'S NOT BETTER THAN WHAT WE HAD BEFORE.
So as the issue persists it should remain marked as *UNRESOLVED*
EDIT: It's still unfixed on the Caves and Cliffs update. Geez
This is still broken as of the new update. No Caves & Cliffs for me, but I caved and used a loader to go back to a working version. Granted, there are other glitches, like villagers sliding out of bed, but at least it's more playable than the current iteration in VR. It's been so long, and I really hope that the team can find some time to sort out the various issues with VR soon, or at least update us on what the actual plans are for this. It's one thing to say they are aware of it and working on it, and another to actually set some sort of ETA.
same is happening in pc vr
It's playable now but very annoying. The chest inventory is so far and transparent, it's difficult see the objects. We need the game draw all the inventories in top of the screen, may be if a zbuffer problem.
>fixes to over 150 bugs
>not to MCPE-109860
I play on PC Oculus Rift and the inventory and menus always appearing behind stuff is giving me headaches.
[media]It doesn't seem to matter how close or far way I stand from something before I try to interact with it, the UI still seems to be partially or wholly behind/clipping into geometry. Yes, it is now partially transparent but even so it's still basically impossible to see what is going on 90% of the time. The only time the UI appears fine and unobstructed is when I'm in a completely open area with no blocks within about a 16 block distance in front of me. This is unacceptable for a game as huge as Minecraft.
Why can't you simply give VR users an additional option in VR Settings named something like "HUD Z-Distance Offset" that allows us to set the default Z position of the HUD to be closer (or further away)? If the HUD was drawn just a bit closer to my face than it currently is, it'd be much better in 99% of cases.
Still broken... Still unresolved.. please fix this...
PSVR format - fun fact - Menu only works properly against Glass which means your coding in your solid blocks are fooked.
The HUD menu for inventory, chests, crafting, seems so far away and hard to see.
Please highly consider offering a way of adjusting the distance closer to your face and make the HUD always on top or lightly fade into blocks, not fade the way it is right now. Probably is exactly what was asked above, HUD Z-Distance.
What does the HUD Distance variable even do?
Thanks for your patience while we continue to look into this issue.
A fix has gone into the latest beta (1.18.10.27) which will hopefully help with this problem, and will bring the chest inventory screen UI closer to the player. (The fix will be included in a future non-beta update when that is ready for full release (no specific date can be given). We will leave this ticket open as a point of reference until the fix has been fully released.)
If there are other related issues please log these separately so they can be tracked accordingly. Please include steps to reproduce the problem and mention which platform is affected.
(Feel free to use the template at aka.ms/BedrockBug if it has not already been reported.)

Marked as resolved??? Has the day finally come?! I'll be sad not seeing "Bryant Johnson commented" emails pop up and reading his little rants but I'll be happy to play vr Minecraft again!
I could go on a rant about how happy I am that the menu is finally fixed! Over a year is a long time with a terrible bug like this. I’m glad they finally took a look and realized just how bad it was. Finally, I’m no longer limited with how I set up my chests, no more looking for a good spot to stand to open my menu. Played every chance I got with the bug though, should tell you how good Minecraft really is. Thank you Mojang
I was very excited about this. I logged on to find that it has not changed and if youre still to close to a block you still clip through and get see a see through menu, but what makes it worse is that this update actually made the VR unplayable. If you try to turn your character and move they will go in a completely random direction. I've only tried this with snap turning. You still get normal movement and turning in living room mode but that's not why I play the VR.
I second what David said, the clip through is still there, and it's not fixed. as it was before Mojang introduced this bug intentionally back in 2020
Yet what's worse is that they have the audacity to mark it as solved. smh
Don't think anybody said they were indeed on version 1.18.10.27.
The previous VR bug (clouds spinning weirdly, shadows behaving unrealistically, text on signs rotating around instead of sticking to the signs) was bad enough, but in this new release the game is unplayable. I'm a relatively new Minecraft user wanting to know how to revert Minecraft back two releases or how I could get a refund.
Here's what the menus at the crafting table, chests, and furnaces look like now in PS VR:
