Character Creator not saving created skins after restart

XBox1: v1.14.1 (and previous versions on XBox). Saving either a free or purchased skin is spotty. Every now and again it will reappear, but mostly always needs to be re-chosen.

Switch: v1.14.1 Have had to recreate custom character every time, although the creator always says my chara is saved. Weird that I never know how many Steves I'll see appearing in my chara slots when I return to recreate. Once a Steve appeared in 4 of the 5 slots. Today, the chara I made yesterday reappeared (couldn't get her in her correct clothes, though)! So did the correct version I made several days ago!? Hope at least one of them stays. 😃

I believe MCPE-53887, MCPE-57697, MCPE-57800, MCPE-58240, MCPE-54706, MCPE-59967, MCPE-59837, MCPE-58935, MCPE-61021, and probably also MCPE-54953 are duplicates of this.

Basically the character creator only functions if your internet connection is active and does not intermittently lose connection. I think it is saving characters only to your xbox live account and not to the local device. If you open Minecraft while your internet is not connected you will get a default skin, and if you then enter character creator all your skins will be blank and you have to recreate a skin to even exit the character creator to play the game. I am uploading a video of myself stuck in the character creator. I had to use Alt-F4 to close the game (Windows 10) in order to get out of the character creator.

(Note that although in the video it is giving the "Multiplayer restricted" message, I was playing single-player in a local world. My internet was not connected when I opened Minecraft and it defaulted to Alex. I initiated internet reconnection and began playing in the world, then after a few minutes tried to load my normal skin, and got stuck).

Also won't let me reload this char is still broken and it's annoying.

https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCPE-61021 is absolutely not a duplicate of this bug. The end result may be similar, and they may have related fixes, but it is not the same issue.

Can anyone confirm if this is still an issue in the 1.14.20 hotfix?

The description of MCPE-55278, which is fixed in this update, seems similar enough to me that I suspect these could have had the same or related causes. I have just tested opening the game without internet connection and was greeted by a strange error message and my custom and downloaded skins being unavailable. I was able to still choose the unloadable skin slots in character creator, exit, and play in a world, with my appearance reverting to Alex or Steve. After exiting Minecraft, reconnecting internet, and reloading, all of my skins/characters came back. So, I am thinking this issue is partially fixed. This was on Windows 10 pc.

Hi, yes! I can confirm that it's still an issue. In fact, right now, the character creator freezes the game whenever I try to create a custom skin. It's extremely annoying and is ruining the experience for me and my sister.
This is on PS4.

My character doesn’t have arms and also it’s hat is not on his head 😞

I'm still having this problem on PS4, as are two of my friends - skins fail to load, customise character section is completely blank, and skins can't be selected or bought from the store or from owned packs. Fed up at this point, it's been bothering us every single time we play

Every time I load Minecraft on a different system, all my characters are lost. What I mean is the skin. So, say I load a fun skin like the shark from the Beasts skins. I play on my XBox One and save and close for the night. Then, I load Minecraft on my phone the next day (or on my Switch), and try to switch my character back to the default girl (bumblee bee shirt and pigtails version of alex) I usually play with, but she's gone. I switch back to my XBox to load her up, because she definitely was there last night, but nope, she's now confirmed to be deleted from there as well. This happens a LOT. I created a fun blue character on the switch, loaded it up on my xbox, and the next day she was gone after I played my bumblebee shirt default girl. This is really frustrating because now I have to go back in a recreate my character EVERY DAY before I start playing. Can I please get those hours of my life back?? lol not really, but please fix this bug it's super frustrating.

Same issue on Bedrock Xbox one x. Character skin resets to Steve or Alex default despite recreating custom skin in character edit every login.

This is still a problem on Xbox One I can't recreate my skin because the character creator won't load any items and the Marketplace Sun-Times won't load you fixed it in one of the nether bettas but you broke it again.

Still affects 1.16.1 on the switch really frustrating

This seems to happen a lot when switching between Minecraft and Minecraft Earth

This is still happening on Xbox One X as of version 1.16.20. Sometimes it deletes one created character back to Steve or Alex, sometimes it's 2 or 3 created characters back to default. 08/15/2020

Custom Skins that were there were replaced with Steve or Alex 

Updating the Skins does not get saved after closing out of the game.  

This seems to have appeared to a lot of people in 1.16.210, including me and my friends.

The same as I have on PS4. I log in and cannot access the store. The characters are also reset every time I leave Minecraft. Before all of this, I had downloaded Minecraft again to play it, and I saw this!🙁

Definently happens in 1.16.210, I'm on FireOS (Amazon) and so far it happened every time I logged in after March 14

This is now happening in 1.16.210 on my iPad.  A custom character I've had for a while is now gone and now no custom characters are saved whenever I log out and back in.

This started happening to me on Windows 10. Even though I edit the skins they reset every time I restart the game.

I have had that problem yesterday, but It appeared to be a temporary server issue.

The issues you were having yesterday was a temporary Xbox Live server issue (as mentioned by Hayden) that has since been fixed

I have this issue on Nintendo switch.  However mine at times will not remember my Steve profile skin color and every time I play it alternates the chosen profile for me between Steve and Alex.  I just wanted to put my info in on this to show support for fixing it.

• Win 10 PC

• All saved characters within Character Creator reset to Steve after (de)activating a texture pack. 

• I am able to successfully save characters in the creator and they are only deleted when changing texture packs (that I've found so far).

• I've maintained internet connection throughout and have closed and reloaded Minecraft multiple times but the saved characters are all gone. See attached screenshots. 

I first noticed this in the release 2 prior to this one and I've now confirmed it happens only when activating or deactivating a texture pack – even ones developed by Minecraft from the Marketplace.

Please let me know what additional information I can provide to help with this issue.  I'm happy to do some testing, send screen records, etc.

Please disregard, I realized this was user error. The added pack was preventing everything but the default Steve skin from showing. Removing the back revealed nothing was actually deleted or missing.

Now to find a better way to identify chunks... 

Confirming presence in 1.17.30.20.  Neither Steve, Alex or the third character can be edited for use in more than one game session(when you log out of the app the data is lost).   I also get a glitched version (wrong skin colour) of Steve on loading.

No longer affecting me since updating to 1.17.30.21.  Thank you.

Still broke.  And what was the point of the clear cache button?  Not seeing that it makes a difference.

Just to recap, when offline on the Nintendo Switch platform there is no ability to select a character.  Even to switch between Steve or Alex requires a complete shutdown and restart of the game.  The Character Creator menu screen shows five (5) ghost images.  No buttons function on this screen.  Even skins in downloaded worlds are unavailable.  So I cannot access any of my paid content.

Of all the bugs I've seen, I have only reported on a few, but this is the one that got me to create an account in order to post to these threads.  It has been open a long, long time.

I experienced this bug for the first time on both of my accounts this week. I use each account on a separate computer. On both computers I opened Minecraft to find that all of my characters made in the character creator had been deleted. Most of the characters had been used unchanged for months without issue. On one account there was one skin from a marketplace world that was still saved. The deletion seemed to coincide with an update to the character creator UI and the following pop-up screen now showing whenever I go into the character creator:

Occurs in 1.18.31. Periodically the character creator skins that were saved reset altogether, and do not appear when checking multiple platforms.

After further review, it appears that almost all of the unlocked (paid and achievement-based) options are intermittently unavailable. Even some of the free, base options are missing, including colors.

Running 1.19.22 on Nintendo Switch, and this has been an issue since the catastrophic 1.18 earlier this year. Deleting game data, uninstalling, and reinstalling while logging out and back into the microsoft account fixed it back then, but I shouldn't have to do that EVERY TIME I start up the game. A fix needs to be found and soon!

Bug still not working for 1.19.40. I tried resetting/deleting and uninstalling the game like a previous user tried in 1.19.22 but not fix within that regard. 

Windows 10 is the platform I used.

This is a very annoying bug. I just use a skin from the marketplace and I have to re-select it almost everytime I play. This started happening to me when they added more default characters that I can guarantee no one uses.

Every time I log into the most recent stable version of bedrock on PC, the custom character in the third slot is overwritten with Makena. I re-do the character, save, log off, switch to another PC, and it happens again.

I've had this issue for so long and it's made me not want to use the creator at all because I know it'll corrupt if I breathe too heavily.

How has Microsoft not figured out a way to back up character creator?

Why is Bedrock so buggy that Switch has a random chance to just not log you in and you just have to hope it works?

Why is Bedrock so buggy that mobile has a chance to just stop me from logging in unless i'm screen recording?

ik this is unrelated but the next bedrock update should entirely focus on fixing usability issues like these.

and revamping switch entirely, as is it's almost impossible to even play a lot of the time for seemingly no reason
