This report is tracking lag when performing actions like opening inventories, and brief freezes during gameplay, on Android devices. Please do not comment here about issues on other platforms, or other unrelated bugs.
For overall slowing down of the game specifically when villagers are loaded on any device see MCPE-175100.
To discuss this or any other bug, or to request adding affected versions, please use the Mojira Discord
This problem is present since full release 1.20.X
What happens is that objects and blocks sometimes cause terrible performance in Mobile devices.
Take for example, grabbing a block of any type, weapon or tool with or without enchantments, custom banners, and custom shields.
See the creative inventory being more specific to the "items" tab. Do these examples lead to the same problem "Bad performance"

Does this still occur if you turn off Fancy Graphics in video settings (MCPE-175112)?

No, it still occurs even when fancy graphics is off. In fact, it sill persists even when all graphic options are turned off

Here I have evidence about this bug

Video on MCPE-175065 shows the lag with moving around.

Although we have disabled the sophisticated graphics and the chunks are at a minimum, it does not cause the game to lag and it is not known why this happens.

Watching the published videos I can see that when interacting with something or the inventory the screen delays or freezes for a few seconds and at the time of this the FPS also drops almost to a minimum and then returns to normal on Android which is almost always a stable 60 FPS

It occurs on a fresh world with these options turned off:
Render clouds
Smooth lighting
Fancy graphics
Beautiful skies
No local or global resuorce packs applied
It happens more frequently on my older world with old chunks and several farms

This night (EU) my game has been updated and I'm having the same problem on my mobile android.
Every while the game freezes for some seconds with no reason, even with all possible video configurations set to minimum (5 chunks, no clouds...).
It's literally unplayable because the hostile mobs are unaffected by this freezing.
I hope this can be solved soon...

The game keep freezing from time to time. I thought this was because of my device so I edited the render distance(option.txt) from 10 to 1 chunk to see if there any difference. Sadly the game still freezing for no reason. Opening and closing inventory seem to be a lot slower than before, and sometime it keep freezing on inventory. I hope they fixed this ASAP

I solved deactivate “You died” experience view on settings video. But if you open inventory or Chests, barrel, the lag again.

Immediately after getting the update I've been getting the issue of game freezing for a couple of seconds at a time. Happening in new worlds and our realm that's got a lot going on in it. Seems way more frequent in the busy realm compared to in a brand new world but present in both. Playing around with the settings has done nothing to resolve this game is unplayable with this.

I’d like to add that this problem with lagging making game play impossible affects IOS platforms also. My 9th Gen iPad has never struggled with game play before but the latest 1.20.30 update is unplayable. Lagging is so pronounced that farming, red stone mechanisms and simply mining no longer works. I also receive a warning banner stating “There was a problem and multiplayer hosting has stopped.” Screen shot attached with this comment.

For being a little bit more precise, this issue started to show up since 1.20.20.20 when was recalibrated the amount of particles from the cherry leaves based on device performance along with the bunch of parity sounds and the fixed zombie villager texture. My current world is in a Cherry Grove and since that beta the performance have been awful.

Duplicate of my report. But yes, this issue is terrible. Glad that finally other people have spoken up. It just keeps getting worse and worse. Tons of lag, fps drops, etc. But this is NOT just android devices, my computer is way laggier as well. On all my devices, the inventory lags when opening and fps values are overall lower.

I'm also experiencing this (lag of up to a few seconds, several times a minute, often when opening chests etc, but also even during walking and so on), including the occasional multiplayer error message, starting since 1.20.30
It was working perfectly before the update.
I tried lowering the settings, no difference.
I tried turning off my WiFi and mobile data, no difference.
It does make the game virtually unplayable.
On android 10, Moto G7 power.
I've tried rebooting the phone, no difference.

I'm using an s22. The game momentarily freezes every 5 seconds or so at regular intervals. Like a record skipping. Like a hiccup. This makes the game virtually impossible to play when exploring or fighting. And the nether? Forget about it. It is NOT JUST opening containers.
This happened immediately after the latest update. It's not a device performance issue. I've tried different wifi hot spots and my mobile data. None of my other devices are performing poorly over my wifi.
I can't play until this is fixed.

Playing on PS4. Immediately after update my world is in slow mo. Villagers frozen (moving at snails pace). Bees just hover. Objects drift to the ground slowly rather than drop. I can’t eat… seems to go on and on without impacting hunger. Killed everything and adding back in a few villagers right away causes the lag.

If there are any specific examples or scenarios that are triggering this issue, it would be good to know about them - we might have to split them out into separate tickets so that we can track and fix them accordingly. Any additional repro steps or examples would be appreciated, thanks.
Edit - if you could also mention which devices you are experiencing the issue on that would be appreciated!

Galaxy S8+
I don't know about anyone else, but personally my game starts lagging almost immediately as everything loads in. I'll also get a black triangle that hangs for a few seconds upon loading (never used to happen - see attachment) and then everything loads in very slowly, like I can see cows outside the walls of my home for a second or 2 before the walls actually render. As soon as everything loads in almost immediately Ill get a pause, then things seem fine for a few seconds until I start moving around my world. I'll get short freezes for about a half second to a full second in 5 - 20 second intervals.

I cannot discern a pattern. Its everything from interacting with containers, opening my personal inventory, and just running around. Maneuvering in dangerous areas like the nether or deep caves invariably will result in falling in lava or over a cliff during a lag. Fighting mobs during a lag will get you killed.

The game starts to freeze if you have things in your inventory, in the hotbar, offhand, etc.
There are several examples: having a banner with patterns or shields with banners.
However, even if you do not have an object that has these kinds of details, it freezes.
Even if you have blocks, weapons, etc. The game freezes for a few seconds and then goes "normal" and then freezes again and repeats itself all the time

To answer to the developer, as other people mentioned as well the lag spikes occur randomly while performing several actions; during my attempts to resolve the issue by playing with the settings, I've had it happen while moving around, while performing actions, while in the inventory screen and while fighting mobs. It doesn't seem to be related to any specific action, graphical setting or other things (weather conditions do not affect the freezing either)

Hey there so my report is related with the issue lag and spikes a bit to the creative inventory too : MCPE-166004
Like scrolling down and up in the creative inventory it cause a bit of freeze and lag.

I'm having lag issues in both normal survival worlds and superflat. On my survival world, the area I've experienced lag in has an iron farm with 20 villagers as well as a pumpkin and melon farm that includes a total of 16 hopper minecarts. These are all located in the same chunk as well.
My phone runs Android 10 with a snapdragon 675 processor and 4 gigabytes of ram, and I've had it for 3 years now. I want to also mention that I've been using a render distance that is double what the game would allow me to do normally through methods I will not go into because I don't want it to get fixed. I would say that it is completely unrelated because I've been using that since 1.18.
Does the issue continue to occur if you reduce the render distance down towards the minimum?

These issues occur regardless of display/render settings. Reducing settings has had no discernable impact on the lag spikes.

It's the same for me.
Fps drops and stutters every 10-20 seconds.
Doesn't matter if I change to lower settings or what I do in the game.
And the fps drops and stutters happens whatever I do.
Opening chests, changing weapon, mining or building blocks..
I play in my realms server with one more friend and we are both experiencing the same issues.
The hotfix didn't help at all.
My device is Samsung S23 Ultra with 12gb ram.
My friend is gaming on Samsung S20 Ultra.

I have the same problem, i have a Xiaomi 12 lite 8gb RAM, im on the latest version 1.20.31.01, when i create a new world or i go on a server and i move sometimes It lags a bit (even with every video settings off) it's still Better that the previous version wich was unplayable, but It still needs a fix.

I did a bunch of testing this morning - using a flat creative world.
I had a feeling it might be to do with the "should I spawn a new mob" system - so used the "no mob spawning" "cheat" setting, disabled night time and weather. No pauses
So I turned on the mob spawning, and got some occasional tiny pauses when a new mob spawned (chicken or cow or whatever) but it wasn't super consistent.
I built a tinted glass house to see if spawning hostile mobs that need darkness made it pause - but it seemed similar.
I tried turning off spawning and removing all the mobs and using eggs to spawn mobs myself. I could spawn loads of creepers, with no pauses. But when I switched to zombies, it was interesting: most normal zombies spawned instantly. But when it decided to spawn them with armor then it would pause before creating them...
Likewise with other mobs the first of a type spawned after the pause - but subsequent ones (providing they were identical and not a variant) would be instant.
So I wondered if it was to do with loading (texture/model/animation/behaviour) resources somehow.
I then tried a bunch of options with building an enclosure with different mobs and blocks, going 200 blocks away, waiting 20 seconds and then returning - and this seems a much more reliable way to get the pause problem.
It seemed to be fairly consistently when coming into <100 blocks distance from the the enclosure that it would lag - so something to do with loading the content.
I tried using lots of different mobs, or all the same... if I used like 50 sheep, all the same colour, or 50 creepers, or other mobs without variation, and the went away and back, then it seemed a lot less pause than if I had a bunch of different mobs.
I tried creating a pile of loads of different regular blocks (all the brick types, terracotta types, glass, etc etc) in one place, going 200 blocks away, waiting, and then coming back - and sometimes this would pause too. Especially with the "wait 20 seconds before going back" and "go to another location that doesn't have those blocks, but does have lots of other blocks".
I think it's maybe to do with loading resources of some kind, possibly textures or something. Did memory use or caching or anything like that change with this version? Or would there be a way to try tweaking those options or the garbage collector / which resources are loaded or anything to try that?
I think this might explain why opening a chest /inventory could also trigger it - if the stuff in the inventory had lots of different things compared to what was currently loaded?

As previously stated by others, I've also experienced lag/studdering type freezing in the game play. It starts after opening the game and when loading my account after opening the app. (This has always been a bit slow and was never a problem. After update this became much longer of a process than ever before)
Once my account is reflecting on the main screen and I am able to get to my previously created worlds (before update 1.20.30) and select a world to enter, during loading of world, I also get a triangle just before loading is completed.
Once in my world it's ok for maybe a min and then the shuddering freeze begins. This is a creative world with Normal difficulty. When I'm near a mob, doesn't matter what, I get slight shuddering. I have villagers on my village as well and they also seem to shudder.
I was researching this issue and found a YouTube video that also explains much of the same issues I'm experiencing. https://youtu.be/QiRKHzhTNOo?si=35dEamtHNCTVBWGR
I believe what he was able to find explains this issue we are all having. He experiments with the farming villager and finds since this villager need to have path finding, it has caused the issues of freezing.
So I am wondering if maybe the mobs & villagers that need to have specific tasks & interactions with the player are causing the main issue of game play freezing & lag. I haven't tested it but I'm assuming that this may also occur with dolphins since they lead a player to shipwreck treasure chests.
Anyone else agree or experience these issues?
Thank you!!

Hi, first comment, please let me know how I can improve the information I provide.
Playing on Steam Deck, OS 3.4.10. Utilizing the Unofficial xNix Launcher, v0.11.2. This is used to load the android version of Minecraft onto Linux-based systems. Minecraft is v1.20.31.
Steps taken to reproduce:
Create new flat world, creative, peaceful. All settings are default.
Don't move the character. Allow mobs to spawn, and let them wander to check for lag spikes.
Rotate the character in circles, but don't move. Lag spikes can occur while rotating the player.

I experience this, too. I use a Motorola G100 with Android 12. The previous version had to problems at all, in fact I was surprised that Minecraft runs so well on Mobile devices. With 1.20.30, loading my world from the previous version, freezings and stutterings happen every few seconds. Fighting with monsters is not fun anymore because the screen just freezes every now and then. When opening the inventory, the game halts for 2 seconds before showing the inventory. In the previous version, this was instant.
I wonder how this version could pass QA? Don't you test on Android devices?
I just checked. I'm on 1.20.31. But the lags are still there.

Hope this helps any. Version 1.20.31. Our world is on Xbox and I join it using an android 13 tablet. We experience lag spikes almost in the same exact areas throughout our base. Sometimes one really huge one and other times it's multiple small ones in succession.(Inventory lag makes it worse; separate ticket). I removed banners and removed many, not all, mobs and we have no villagers in render. I removed maps and item frames. These actions haven't improved anything. Removed nether portal, nothing changed. Messed with many settings, again no changes. Not sure what else to test atm.

I just updated to 1.20.32 and the lag is still happening, however, it "seems" to be slightly less frequent. I roamed around my world yesterday and the freezing was more frequent yesterday than it was just after the latest update. I opened chests and strolled around my base for a few minutes and only had 4 or 5 pauses where yesterday it would have been much more. I'm going to check again later, but for now, progress?

Mega_Spud (Jay Wells) I'm on a Samsung galaxy 5.1 Android 13 version.
I reported an issue with the anvil. Everytime I try to combine my pickaxes in the anvil it lags, freezes, then crashes the game! I don't see how this is the same? This is a specific issue. Yes when I move items around in my inventory it lags but doesn't crash. Maybe it has crashed? I know it lags and freezes my game. Dripstone caves are causing a lot of lag now too. And the new pink tree biome is causing lag too.

My issue with the anvil should not be closed. It's 2 different bugs!? Moving an item around in your inventory and having the game crash everytime you try to combine items in an anvil are two different things?! Maybe Mojang could have fixed my report on a hotfix? The game on mobile has been terrible for 2 months! Not able to play. The new update isn't fit for mobile devices? Need to go back to C++? Bedrock or Pocket edition was way smoother when they used the other programming. And we could find our worlds on any file manager. Now worlds do not exist so we can't save and back them up anymore. I've been here JSpud with you when we were in a Google group for beta. You were a helper. It's been 10 years lol

After updating to 1.20.32 still freezes the game sometimes and happens less times, also loads the game faster but the black triangle while loading is stil there.
The bad thing is that I've got some FPS drops on certain places, like lush caves, the nether (in a fortress, near a warped forest and basalt deltas). This didn't happen before the 1.20.32 hotfix.
I've been running around the world (cold ocean, savanna, badlands, oak forest, birch forest, plains, mountains) and I didn't experienced this on any other place of those.

Okay, in the recent beta/preview version this problem continues to occur, however in the full release 1.20.32 it seems that the problem persists only a little, but it is an improvement if we compare it with previous versions, for example betas/previews and full release of "1.20.3X" and betas/previews of "1.20.4X", If things continue their course, this will probably disappear sooner or later.

Still lagging just as often for me. Its much more obvious when I'm at my home base built within a thriving village with numerous villagers, three pens full of livestock, bee hives, frogs. The more mobs around me, the worse it is. When I'm just passing through a biome with scant mobs around I hardly notice it.

Oh, the worse lag I feel is opening my inventory. I f I do so while around aggressive mobs, I will get hit several times waiting for it to open.

After 1.20.32 hotfix became a little better. Maybe... But in my case on Android version a lot of freezes still occur... Mostly it happens when character tries to turn around a view. I managed to record an example:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nZGqKjjEwSfraZnwq6GRcgvBOSfkLjkx/view?usp=drivesdk
My device is Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 (SM-T830). Android 10 OS.
My son has Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e (SM-T720). Android 11 OS and he has the same problem.
Before 1.20.30 update the game worked perfectly.

Interesting. I also notice it when turning or looking around. I thought maybe it was just my imagination.
Good to meet a fellow daddy/child team. 🤘

@ptoepfer12 Now that you say that, I get a freeze as soon as I load in as I am typically facing a wall in my base and I have to turn around to leave. Interesting...

This lag has been pretty common for me when I open the inventory, turn around my camera or break a block for the first time when I load up my survival world or a server. There is no specific reason for this lag to happen, it just occurs randomly. It doesn't matter whether I have 5 chunks or 10 chunks of render distance.
My Samsung galaxy tab A7 runs on Android 12.
It has a 3GB RAM with 4GB RAM PLUS.

I've been experiencing lag spikes since the release of 1.19.80. The lag spikes have become more common and consistent since 1.20.30. My device: Tab s7 (8 GB of RAM)

Here is a short showing how bad it is for me, no villagers and only a few mobs. https://youtube.com/shorts/-kq6v1PQs3c?feature=share

I have found predictable stutter related to camera changes, particularly when I'm dragging allays or frogs behind me and switching to reverse 3rd person camera to take a look. A particular stutter event happens on switching camera angle while in motion, whether in a boat or on foot.
This was seen on a Samsung Note20, running latest patches, connected via 5 GHz to a BDS survival world on a LAN on a performant windows system.
Here's a method to reproduce stutter on android, possibly akin to the above observation.
Start a flat world in creative. (I tested on a local world with 4 chunk render distance, not BDS)
Optionally drag 4-20 mobs behind you. in standard survival I find dragging allays in particular to cause lag, but for testing I used sheep and pigs that spawned nearby, creating a few more using spawn eggs.
I did some additional tests with stationary mobs, and with allays, without any noticeable difference in frequency.
Walk in a straight line in any direction, there will be single-pause stutters at regular intervals of roughly every 10-20 seconds.
I did additional tests flying at fast speed and on horse back, with no apparent difference in frequency or stutter length
Regularly change the camera angle while walking in a straight line and stuttering is more regular (a consistent ~1 second after changing angle when the stutter happens) and not specifically associated with any particular camera angle.
after further the number or frequency of camera angle changes doesn't result in a change of frequency, but when a stutter happens it's shortly after a camera change.
If you start walking in a small 2-3 block circle by spinning the camera in reverse 3rd person (and not changing camera angle), the stutter doesn't seem to happen, whether you're dragging mobs or not
Further testing of stationary tests with camera rotation + camera angle changes does show some stutter, whether standing or on horseback, and regardless as to whether the camera is pointing straight up or down.
It's hard to tell if dragging mobs in front (By walking backwards with the mobs sometimes off-camera ) has less of an impact, but stutters still happen.
Further testing suggests there's no variation in stutter frequency based on any mob behaviour, type or position on screen.
I tested with larger render and tick distances, and with all fancy options turned off with no discernable difference in stutter length or frequency.
My observation from testing is that I can reproduce stutter purely with camera angle changes, without any other observed variation from chunk loading, mob activity or even render distance. The stutter can be triggered more frequently with frequent camera changes, to a shortest interval of about every 3 seconds. The stutter itself is less than a second, but everything halts, including mob activity. dragging the sheep in creative, they were happily eating, but the eating animation, as well as the mob position would halt and then quickly update after the stutter.

The studder is omnipresent. Every action, container, oven, etc. When in my inventory, while switching an item into one of my active slots, the item, let's say my shield will freeze in time halfway in between the inventory slot and my shield slot.
This is really getting ridiculous at this point. How about Mojang just acknowledging the issue and say they are working on it?
We keep playing despite the erosion of the gameplay experience.

Please, Someone tell me if the bug is still in 1.20.50, I resigned myself and downloaded the pirated 1.20.12 because it cannot be downdated in the play store, the lag is extreme and it is impossible to play in current versions, We are talking about pauses of up to 4 seconds just for opening the inventory, it is a bug that Mojang should prioritize.
Please let me know if it was reduced in 1.20.50

It seems like the optimizations will never be fixed, I’m already waiting for a fix every week, when a beta or release comes out, I immediately read the list of fixes (I’m not interested in the innovation) in the end, they still haven’t fixed it.
If it weren’t for these microfreezes, I would have managed to do something in my survival these 3 months

I am using an Android device , version 1.20.50 is causing lag
First when I created a world or join existing World
If I break a block/drop an item it will cause lag spikes
And traveling to new chunks or already loaded chunks also causes lag spikes
Even jumping 1st time in the newly created world also causes lag spikes

I would say that it's impossible for Mojang to build a correlation of reported issues unless a device model is reported along with the symptoms
To determine your device model, use these steps:
Go to {*}{*}the settings app (swipe down on main screen, click the gear icon) , then select About phone or About tablet.
Record the Product Name and Model Name
Click on Software Information on the about phone page and record the Android version. For added detail, you can include the Google Play System update date (may not be shown on older devices).
There are a few ways to collect the RAM on your device, but I suspect the three most valuable hardware specifications are:
CPU model
Amount of RAM
Graphics chipset
This information isn't always available through the standard android menus.I have found many android apps to have incomplete device data, which they lookup anyway, so I can't recommend any just for this. My suggestion is to use a site like gsmarena, search on your product name and confirm the correct device model name is on the page. Their page lists the key device specifications Mojang would need to know about and can also confirm what android version your device is capable of running (not what it's running at the moment). This search doesn't communicate with your device, it's just looking up specifications.
I do wonder if the google play analytics history Mojang would have access to reports the device models that are actively using particular versions. any device models that disappear from the stats after particular releases would be candidates for further investigation.

After the 1.20.50 update, this has increased even more. Whenever i play on my multiplayer world, it lags every 5 seconds, literally making it unplayable. When mobs are following you, you may die if you have no armour. This is so irritating. This makes me want to quit the game.

Every time I open my inventory. I've timed the lag. It can be up to 5 seconds.
With every passing update that this doesn't get fixed, won't it be harder to isolate and fix?
My daughter plays in our server with me. Sits right next to me and she never lags.
But, I keep playing. And that's the rub. If we keep playing, Mojang really has no incentive to make this a priority. I pay for my account, my daughter's account, and a 10 player server.

This still isn't fixed. I haven't been able to play for months now without it crashing. It's really bad on old worlds. New created worlds its not as bad. My game crashes with difficulties off in a big cave. I thought it was the mobs but it's not? Any UI it crashes too. The anvil especially. Or just moving items in the inventory. What happened? I thought this would be fixed by now?

I may even have to stop playing this game because this bug makes it unplayable in all of my devices! If anyone can try playing on an Android device(e.g.-Samsung), they can understand why we feel so irritated.
This has been happening since the update in which trapdoor crawling was added, 1.20.30.
Mojang, please make this bug a priority and fix this.

I think the problem is with the snapdragon processors with Andreno GPU BECAUSE my phone has exynos processor with mali GPU and it does not freeze but devices with snapdragon and andreno may experience freezes. This may be the the problem. Please fix this bug because this has been the most irritating bug ever.

I have been experiencing similar random interval spikes. Which makes the game very difficult to play. My Pocket Edition issues started with 1.20.30 when my Playstation controller stopped working properly do to that update. I posted about it on Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/s/0XrcivL0AA. Probably within the last 3 months I noticed the lag spikes. I have been playing on a Samsung Z fold 3 5G, 512GB storage, 12GB Ram, I think its a Snapdragon 888 5G processor.
I tried to reduce the visuals to see if that made a difference, but it didnt. when serching my inventory, and chests, the lag spikes occur. Very often with flying around with the elytra.

In the most recent Beta/Preview (1.20.60.26) there was a great improvement in performance. However, the bug is still present, although its presence has decreased

On a snapdragon 855+ and snapdragon 845 processor it has these problems mainly when opening the inventory but also randomly, I don't know if it is due to entities or any other situation. I tested it in a world without entities and it didn't give any problems.

Have the devs considered this to be a severe case of tick lag?Minecarts and redstone are so slow too. It seems to only happen around places that players spend much time in from our experience. The lag happens everywhere but it's severe around build heavy areas, no entities required as a criteria.

I confirm this issue for 1.20.70 update. Screen just freezes in every 5 seconds or so. Lag is present in opening inventory and placing boxes as well

This might be a separate bug, but i see a similar bug report being marked as duplicate to this report. If your screen freezes a bit for every 5 seconds, it might be due to your internal storage has no more than 500ish mb left. The issue seems to be gone when i give more empty space to my internal storage. There is also another bug that causes massive amount of lag (screen freezes for quite a long time and you can't do anything) if you put Minecraft application to an external storage such as SD Card. In my case, i'm using an old and pretty slow SD Card though. I recommend putting the Minecraft app in your internal storage as it solved the issue for me.

I've been experiencing the issue with lag and freezing since 1.20.30, and I can confirm it was working fine prior to the update, and my game files are saved on my internal storage, and I have 9GB of free space.

Mine crashed in Android 12, Oppo A17k with 1.20.60 installed.

1.20.62 I want to say that something regarding lag was fixed slightly before I updated to 1.20.62. Quickly I noticed that whatever this lag freeze that happens has returned. I'm not sure if it's just a coincidence. But I'm sure I hadn't experienced it much, if at all in 1.20.60.

I've experienced screen freezes due to entities such as Banners, signs, mobs, and chests(...) unloading behind or away from me and having to load once again when I turn to look at them or am approaching them. The freezes (sometimes) also happen when I am about to take damage or open my inventory (or a chest), switch to an enchanted weapon in my inventory and similar.

I've experienced this issue since I update the game to 1.20.30.
There's some mob that cause severe lag like Wandering villager, pillager patrol, horse(sometimes), and hostiles with enchanting armor on it. Banner with shield also the main issue of this lag because every time I opened my inventory when I use my banner shield at my off hand the game will freeze and last for 5-7 seconds, which very dangerous in certain situations, recently I died due zombie came out of nowhere when I open inventory with banner shield equiped at off hand, and can't do anything due the game freeze for 5-7 seconds.
My device: Xiaomi 9C, Mediatek Helio P35, Ram 4GB.
I heard people playing with Exynos doesn't affected this bug, I think this issue only exist in Snapdragon and Mediatek.

From 1.20.30 to the present 1.20.71.01 the issue still persists

What's surprising is that the game will run on average 70-80fps but suddenly freezes every 20secs,it freezes guaranteed if opening chests/inventories

It seems like it isn't an adreno or mali gpu specific bug, as i can reproduce this bug on intel integrated graphics using unofficial mcpe launcher on linux.

I use a Redmi Note 12 Pro 4g - Snapdragon 732 - 8/256GB and I experience this bug since 1.20x, I don't know the exact cause but the game lags: when I'm running, when gets close to a village (I put a video on my report), opening inventory, chests, crafting tables, etcetera. My sister use a LG K40s and it doesn't have any problem.

This bug is still present as of 1.20.73 and I have a newish device (Samsung Galaxy Tab S7). The game freezes for no more than a second or two, and is most present near older chunks and especially near Villagers. I bought this tablet in 2021 for the sake of running Minecraft better (I had an outdated tablet then) and it's been almost 3 years and I am having the worse lag (mostly freezing) I have ever seen and I can't do anything about it. I have lowered my render distance, lowered my simulation distance, I even did research and tried clearing areas that cause the slightest, slightest bit of lag with no results (other than FPS improvements). Please, prioritize this bug to be fixed. It's ridiculous that it's been over 6 months and no updates fixed this issue in the slightest. I don't know if this issue is present on every Andriod device, but I'm not willing to spend money I don't have on a device that may or may not fix the problem. I hope this helps someone, but it likely won't.

I was runing a snapdragon 778g chipset with 6gb ram on samsung a52s 5g.
a new samsung s23 its the same, maybe even worse. The snapdragon 8 gen 2 is like 2x the performance of 778g.

I can confirm this issue for Minecraft Bedrock 1.21.0.21 preview.
I use a Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU/GPU.
The game will randomly freeze for a few seconds constantly. This also seems to happen a bit on my computer but not in the same way as my tablet does. My tablet continually just freezes and then randomly resumes while Minecraft Bedrock is just laggy on my computer but doesn't freeze like my Tab S8 does.

The game freezes from time to time (unable to perform any action, freezes usually last 1~3 seconds, fps drops to around 2, and GPU usage is 0% during the freeze), and freezes can occur when walking, sprinting, jumping, or rotating the viewpoint. My device uses Snapdragon 855 and it runs smoothly when playing other 3D games, so I ruled out a performance issue with the device.
As well, I've noticed a strange phenomenon where the probability of stuttering increases when using other texture packs (even when the texture resolution is 16*16 pixels and has less detail than the original texture)

I can confirm the reproduction of this error for a s20FE snapdragon 865 in its latest version of minecraft this error can be easily reproduced in worlds with creature generation or on the other hand opening inventories I was able to test a world without creature generation and this does not happen kind of delay but yes with the inventory

On my Moto Z4 and Edge+ 5GW phone, the lagging does not seem to be linked to any specific action. I can be simply walking across a field and my screen will repeatedly freeze for 1 to 2 seconds and it will do this every 20 to 30 seconds.

I tested this on 2 phones. I get the this stutter on the Motorola edge plus 2023: snapdragon 8 gen 2, adreno 740. Other than the stutter I get 120+ fps but the stutter/freezing every few seconds is frustrating.
The other phone is a cheap Galaxy a32 5g: mediatek 720, mali-g57. About 30-50 fps but does not seem to suffer from the stutter.

This error occurs more when there is an excess of creatures, in my case if there is an excess of creatures concentrated in approximately one chunk it happens more exaggeratedly, this low fps is excessively but it still happens when there are none it is less but it happens more when you go very fast it doesn't happen every time but it is frequently a drop of up to 10 fps

While playing on Hive Skywars, from my Galaxy M31s(with Exynos 9611 and Mali-G72 MP3 GPU), Breaking chests in skywars seems to create a sudden freeze, which is the same as playing on my Galaxy Tab a7 with Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 and Andreno 610 GPU but not on my Galaxy A30s phone with Exynos Samsung Exynos 7904 and Mali-G71 MP2 GPU.
Edit-OndPlus Nord 2T 5G also has lags but their duration is very small compared to Galaxy tab a7.

I noticed after trying to set 60 fps, max 60 Hz, reducing the chunks to 7 and deactivating all extra graphics options the game has significant less stutters and also the game doesn't use the full 12gb of ram instead it says 3gb available while the phone having more. I have black shark 4 pro Soc Snapdragon 888 5G

After a bit of testing, it is almost as if the UI is trying to return all uncraftable inventory in the background even when the toggle is set to craftable or even filtered to a specific search. Any changes do not result in quicker opening in the inventory, either in personal or crafting table UI. This only started happening during the last few updates. Makes the game dangerous to play especially when in combat with mobs when you need to quickly open inventory.

My older phone with SAMSUNG Exynos 850 chipset doesn’t have this issue, minecraft runs flawlessly. My current phone has Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 and using it I experience stutter frames and freezes every 20-30 seconds. Peaks of lag occur when opening any container or the inventory, or when interacting with tile-entities or entities (e.g. any GUI takes a while to show).

I was playing since 1.21.0.x beta and well, the situation is this:
Having enchanted items causes performance to be drastically reduced, this includes creating items with textures or customization. Doing the math, the fps drop ranges from 4-7 fps for each enchanted object, example:
Also, it should be mentioned that when doing the following there may be a freezing between 4 - 10 seconds approx. This may include the action of selecting an object from the list with the Main hand, equipment, block placement, interactions, block destruction, etc.
"Enchanted full armor": -10 fps.
"Armor trims on full armor": -15 fps.
"Enchanted items": -7 fps.
"Enchanted Bows, crossbows, tridents, mace, etc.": -8 fps.
"Banners with or without patterns placed on the wall, or on the floor": -7 fps.
"Banners held in the Main hand with or without patterns": -15fps
"Shields banners with or without patterns": -14 fps + "Enchanted Shields" -16 fps, in total: -30 fps in this.
It has also been seen that mobs spawned that have armor and items with or without enchantment, Wolves with dyed and untinted armor also affect.

I also have this issue on my Samsung S22 with SnapDragon 8 gen 1 and Tab S7 FE with SD 778G(even it has lower spec than my phone it lags less but issue exists). Main issue is game lags even on lowest settings and this is not connected to FPS issue. I think auto save makes this issue because after it lags, the auto save logo appears. I opened the setting that shows auto save chest logo. I hope this issue will be fixed as soon as possible.

The error is generally on all Android devices with a Snapdragon - Adreno processor. The error started from version 1.20.30 and I identified that they were the "Deferred Technical" files (pbr Packs). They added some to this version and hence the bad performance and constant freezes... I managed to remove some of these files and the performance improved significantly. Which makes me assume that this is the cause of these freezes.

The freezes have increased even more with the release of minecraft 1.20. It is almost impossible to play the game with this. As someone has already mentioned before. This can be because of the Deferred Techincal Preview, added in version 1.20.30, the same version where this lag was introduced. So please fix this as soon as possible.

I am playing on Xiaomi 9t pro. Never had performance issues, until the 1.20 updates.

Hello everyone. As you know, this bug has been happening for months and has not yet been resolved. However, I took the task of creating a part 2 of this report.
This is the second part. MCPE-183609
It is necessary that you visit the second part of this report to be able to collect more information about the affected devices, just as they have done here, but now in the second part.
So, please make sure to support the second report and then we could be more efficient in possibly fixing this bug.

I'm tired of playing like this, I'm afraid of using my elytra because the game freeze for like 10 seconds mid-air, it is so annoying

Seems like this bug has something to do with fancy graphics, turning fancy graphics off removes all stutter

Seems like this bug has something to do with fancy graphics, turning fancy graphics off removes all stutter

Turning off fancy graphics doesn't work for most people. Even with all settings turned down to potato mode, the game behaves exactly the same, and has been getting worse ever since the bug was first detected. It started off as annoying lag spikes, and has turned into a choppy, lag spikey, unplayable mess.

Mojang is aware of this problem, as evidenced by the ADO numbers and even the pinned comment from a Mojang employee.

My CPU is Media Tek Helio P22T, version is Android 11, freezes occur in all situations, so I can't pinpoint the cause.

My CPU is Media Tek Helio P22T, version is Android 11, freezes occur in all situations, so I can't pinpoint the cause.

If Mojang aware of this problem, why we didn't get any progress within 10 months? Please mark these words, I've tried so many ways to get this game runs better, at this time I can conclude this is a rendering problem, every lag spikes made the GPU runs without any load (0% load) then came back to normal and it repeated frequently. Entities not causing the game lag like this. My assumption is the game tick, because when it lags, the entities seems teleported into nowhere. The CPU graph not increased into 100% when the game started to lag, it always stable and run continuously around 30-90 even the game is lagging
Things what I've tried:
Reducing screen resolution to the lowest (around 480p) (Failed)
Changing drivers (Failed)
Set the lowest options in game (Failed)
Using render distance limiter to 2 chunks (Failed)
Re-install the game (Failed)
Cleaning up the storage (15 GB available) (Failed)
Turning off vsync in options.txt (Failed)
Limit the background activities (2 activities) (Failed)
Using phone cooler (Stable at 33°C) (Failed)
Memory (4.4 GB available) (Failed)
I compared this version with 1.18.32 (non render dragon) the 1.18.32 version runs normally without any problems. For Samsung users, you can use GPU Watch to see how CPU, GPU, FPS, etc graph when it runs Minecraft

Still present in the latest version Minecraft 1.21.20 😔

Actually seems worse in 1.21.20. Now opening my inventory with the armor screen defaulted often freezes the game for so long my tablet tells me the application stopped responding. Then even after I click "Wait longer" on that message and Minecraft kicks back into gear, the tablet keeps telling me it's not responding every 10 seconds until I close it and try again. Last night it took probably 10 cycles of this to get my inventory open.
Also prior to 1.21.20 it seemed like I didn't get freezes as often in the nether or deep underground, but now it seems to be just as bad there. That may be anecdotal though

It seems that the indirect jam has been solved in 1.21.30.21 version, and my CPU is Snapdragon 662.

I'd like to add that I am having similar performance issues on both my Galaxy S22 Ultra and my Galaxy Tab S9 Plus. Both running Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 respectively.
Latest version Minecraft.
All have latest firmware.
Will be paying attention to the beta to see if there are any improvements.

Hi there,
i'm playing on a realme 5G (Snapdragon 888 Octa-Core, 12GB Ram extended with 12GB Storage Ram) with Android 14. Since the main update to 1.21 i have a lot of lags/freezes while playing. In my offline world i disabled all video options to reduce performance and set it to 8 chunks render distance.
In my android developer options i set the graphic driver for Minecraft to "Systemdriver".
Nothing helped. The lag/freezes appear while walking around or just stand and look around, if your in any menue (inventory, chest, villager trading, ...), while you fly around or just feed animals.
My actual Minecraft Version is 1.21.22 Build 27223615 Branch r/21_u2

I am currently running 1.21.23 Hotfix. I saw this two months ago and commented with a description. I am surprised this bug still exists. I am still using my android device and kinda started feeling mojang neglects MCPE issues, Sometimes deleting important comments or behaving rude. So I deleted my old comment. There's no use of commenting here. I got scammed by mojang by buying their products. Buyers have rights to ask questions. We are annoyed by the bugs not by someone who spam.

On snapdragon platforms with Adreno GPU, by modifying the game apk to delete those ESSL_310 renderers and keep ESSL_100 renderers, this issue can be temporarily solved. Need to unpack renderers, delete ESSL_310, and modify the json, then repack and put the renderers back.

It seems to be a weird device specific issue - it also affects my Pixel 6 Pro, that has Google Tensor (mod. Exynos 2100) and Mali-G78 MP20. Some say it doesn't effect Mali GPUs but it does, and heats up my device faster than COD Warzone or Fortnite (both games only got to 38 degrees C after an hour while Minecraft got to 42 degrees C after 30 minutes)
I'm honestly tired of Minecraft Bedrock devs and their complete inability to fix game breaking bugs. Perhaps Microsoft should outsource development elsewhere?

Galaxy S8 Here... I had the issue prior to today's update 1.21.30. I would always get a significant freeze for 2 or 3 seconds when flying into my base and when opening inventory or any of my chests. I tested both after updating and IT WAS NOT FREEZING!!
I rapid fire opened my inventory and some chests it responded immediately! Whatever was done, it seems to have had some effect on the issue. I know not everyone's seems to be fixed, but so far I've noticed a huge improvement on my end. I will keep an eye on it for a while and will report back if anything changes.

Hello there, I am playing on Poco X6 Pro 5 (MediaTek Dimensity 8050) I already fixed the issue regarding the armor but the Enchanted bow stays the same. Do you guys have any Idea how to fix this bug? Thanks in advance.

With this update 1.21.30.03, my device finally stopped freezing. It's been about a year since the bug appeared. Why did they leave such a serious bug unattended for a year? I have completely lost trust in mojang due to this incident.

After the last update (1.21.30) this issue had a significant improvement, now the lag spikes are less effective

Feel free to delete this if it's not helpful but I can confirm OnePlus 7 Pro Android 11 I am seeing a significant reduction in this issue.

I am a Galaxy Tab A7 Android 12 user. After updating to 1.21.30 and playing for the first time, the duration of the lag spikes was very less. When I played again, then there were no freezes at all. I think it is safe to say that this bug has been fixed for me.
Thank you.

I can confirm that this is almost fixed on the newest update (1.21.30), i can barely notice the lag spikes or sometimes it doesn’t occur during gameplay, and happy to say i’m finally enjoying my minecraft gameplay on mobile and i can now finally play smoothly.

I also had this problem, when I opened the game and passed the mojang logo, my game immediately froze for a long time, waited for a while when my game was running again, but a few seconds after it freezes again and it was very, very long, I am very disappointed with the latest render system minecraft, plis fix this and make the game optimal on a device like mine

After the 1.21.31 update, it freezes again... What a shame... Mojang... It went from a 14-day dream to a hellish reality...😭

It was lightly fixed in 1.21.30 but after I updated it to 1.21.31 Hotfix this game freezing bug reintroduced again. Currently using android 10.

Was what was achieved in a year to solve this problem thrown away? The problem in my case had already been solved in 1.21.30 and returned in 1.21.31

Ya lo habian solucionado, pero en la ultima actualizacion el problema regresó, no se que hicieron lo volvieron a arruinar

For me, the bug has been reintroduced in the update 1.21.31 and the duration of a lag spike seems to be the same as it was before 1.21.30. Please revert the update or file which was added as it is only the cause of the bug.

this happened to me while pressing F5 (you can use keyboard and otg) the lag spike so annoying this has happened for long time, as I think this has to do something with the rendering issue hopefully this will be fixed.

After playing some bedwars and skywars, especially bedwars on Hive, my experience was terrible. It used to lag frequently and the the duration of each lag spike was longer than usual. I hope that this bug gets fixed for good in the next update within this week.
Edit:- My device is Galaxy Tab A7

Interesting development. I commented on September 17 after discovering that my lag and freezing had pretty much disappeared. I had a week and a half of smooth playing until today. I'm not sure what changed but suddenly the lag and freezing are back and is worse than it ever was. 2-3 second hangs when opening inventory or chests. Moving around my world is a constant stutter, and for some reason last night all of my armor stands fell 1 block through the floor. I've never had that happen before. My game was fixed after the last update, and randomly over the last 24 hours it's returned to its former state.

This was fixed last update and now it is happening again in the hotfix, they just bring it back 😭

After the Major update 1.21.30 the Game works smooth and soft without lags. After the last Hotfix the lags came up again.

I am on the latest update 1.21.31.04
And the frame is freezing in between , is not really a lag but some problem in game,

Minecraft got some update today, 1.21.31.05, just reporting that the bug did not get fix.

I noticed this was fixed for me with 1.21.30 (I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab S7) and it came back with 1.21.31.

Yup, there was a brief week or so of bliss in v1.21.30 with this bug finally squashed after like a YEAR, but now it's back in v1.21.31.
Commenting to confirm with my hardware, OnePlus 7 Pro.
It's not even lagspikes as in an FPS slowdown, but a complete lagfreeze for ~5 whole seconds. Some causes:
Loading chunks with placed banners, or opening inventories containing banners (eg shulker boxes)
Clicking on the inventory armor tab with a shield with banner equipped. This is the worst offender. Subsequently clicking between crafting and armor tabs is fine until one exits the inventory again, as if the shield+banner has been cached temporarily, but after a few minutes in realistic gameplay the lagfreezes occur every time one opens up their inventory armor tab.
Opening inventories containing mob heads (eg a chest with skeleton skulls in it). This includes (Wither) skeleton skulls, creeper heads, dragon heads. Probably the Piglin head too but I don't have one yet. Interestingly it seems like once the lagfreeze has occurred opening a chest with one head type, eg skeleton skulls, opening another chest with another type, eg dragon heads, works without a lagfreeze. Are all mob head models / textures (re)loaded when any of them is (re)loaded?
When a Wandering Trader spawns (a lot of lag for 2 free leads...)
Can someone at Mojang just `git diff` the code between the releases v1.21.30 and v1.21.31. There can't be that much difference in the code, but it would make all the difference in the world for us. This bug is one of the most upvoted / watched bugs in a long time.
Is it not just a 5 minute fix of sufficiently cache-ing banners / textures / models / enchantment glint shaders?
Thanks!

Seems to be fixed again in v1.21.40! 😃
A (non exhaustive) list of things that I mentioned in my previous comment which caused lagfreezes that now seem fixed since I've re-tested them in v1.21.40:
Placed banners, inventories containing banners, switching to armor tab with a banner-shield equipped (this was the worst of all and is now fixed again 🙂), inventories containing mob heads, and sleeping in a bed with the "hide hand" video setting on and a banner-shield equipped (because it was loading in the banner-shield)(I forgot to mention this one but yeah it's fixed too).
tldr: In v1.21.40 I've re-tested everything except Wandering Trader spawns (which may well be fixed too, they're just too random for me to wait around for), and everything I mentioned seems fixed! 😃
(Hardware: OnePlus 7 Pro (Android mobile phone))
Thank you, Mojang!
(edit 2024/10/27 Wandering Trader spawns do not cause any lag either, all is good!)

I think it's gotten a little lighter after updating to 1.21.41... (FPS no longer drops to 0 every 5 seconds.) I hope it won't happen again with the next update.

1.21.40 and no issues with it.

It also happens on Windows! Just was casually playing and, after some time, the framedrops came. I was doing a discord transmition for like 1 hour and then it started, from nowhere.

tbh it slightly happens in my Vivo y11 3gb ram snapdragon 439 and it still do a lag spikes for like 0.5 and 0.2 second in my Minecraft 1.21.40 and even in the main menu it still happens in home menu! not gonna lie

Can Confirm on a Samsung A15 8gb ram (Helio G99), and a Redmi Note 11 4gb ram
The Lag spikes mostly happen randomly, they last around 0.3-0.5 seconds

I know this issue had been marked resolved, so this may be something new. If this is something different, could someone point me in the right direction?
I'll start by saying everything was working fine before the update.
After the 1.21.50 update, I noticed occurrences of chunks not loading/ taking a VERY long time to load, even near my base where I've never had issues in the past. I've also noticed when I try opening chests, nothing happens. Then, as much as 20 - 30 seconds later, the chest UI opens. It's like there is a HUGE delay interacting with things. I also replaced a door with one of the new pale oak doors, after I placed it, it reverted back to the dark oak door I had there originally. Playing on Android, Samsung S8+
