A fix is announced in the 1.16.0.57 beta changelog. We welcome feedback from beta testers on that fix.
Turtles when done breeding will not lay an egg, even if I made a newborn an adult and tried to breed that one. Once they are done, they just go in the water and swim in circles for eternity. I’ve found probably 15 pairs or turtles to try this and I cannot get it to work.

I'm having this same issue. I cannot breed turtles, they just swim around forever whenever I try. I've tried to breed about 10 different pairs with no luck.
Same - IOS platform. I have a farm where I have bred many pairs and harvested scutes as they grow up. Newly hatched pair and 2 of the old pairs, all hatched on the island, now will not lay eggs after breeding
I have the same issue on iOS. I got a turtles farm in realm server which are working until the bees update. Now my turtles are pregnant but they don't lay egg. Now all my turtles in the farm are pregnant except for 1. And I'm unable to feed the rest of the turtles cause they are pregnant
Same issue on Windows 10. Turtles are pregnant, do not lay eggs. Tested on survival, and then creative world with spawn eggs.
Same Issue here as well on Xbox One Bedrock realm. I thought I was doing something wrong but I'm glad to see others are experiencing the issue as well.
Yeah I noticed there wasn’t any post on it. I’m on Xbox one on my realm server; I recently got back into it. This issue was effecting my server since before the bees update. I just figured I was doing something wrong.
I have the same issue. I'm in Beta 1.14.1.3 on Windows 10. I have been trying to breed turtles for a month and they will breed but will not lay eggs. I too thought I did something wrong, but I have even bred turtles that I "grew" to adulthood, bred with seagrass and the turtle will not lay eggs. I still get xp for breeding the turtles and baby turtles spawn, but no turtles will lay eggs.
Same issue on Bedrock for PS4. Turtle appears gravid (pregnant), but never lays the eggs.
Bug MCPE-59035 is also open on this, it should be linked to this one.
Having this same issue on Xbox, bedrock. Turtles breed successfully, one becomes visibly impregnated, then wanders endlessly without ever laying eggs.
Same issue on PS4 Bedrock 1.14
No matter what, turtles won't lay eggs on their home beach after mating. They will just wander off aimlessly and forget they are pregnant after a while.
Same issue on Windows 10 using realms, universal minecraft editor states the turtle is wants_to_lay_egg however this never happens tried with a number of different batches of turtles, all get pregnant and then swims around even visiting their home beach but never lays eggs.
In my turtle farm I have to feed about 30 turtles so that can lay two or three eggs. I break the eggs or they hatch on their own. ... After many many days and the deads of 5-6 turtle, maybe one or two eggs will lay again.
That was not so extreme until 1.10. I play in Win10.
My ticket was closed, so I'm writing here. Turtles are also bugged on the PlayStation 4 as mentioned above with the same problem. I hope this is fixed soon!
Same as everyone else commenting in here... Turtles breed. Get pregnant...... Then nothing....... I’ve spent numerous hours just trying to troubleshoot the problem. All I know is that in Bedrock it doesn’t work. If I switch over to java they breed and lay eggs just fine. Ps4 player.
Yes, I have the same problem on Windows 10. Turtles even spawned in creative mode don't breed and lay eggs 😞.
Still having this issue on windows 10 as well. I even did the creative test.
Confirm that turtle AI is broken on Dec 31st, 2019
Yeah, I can confirm this for windows 10 edition as well. I've spent a week and a half with 4 preggo turtles and no egg laying. I went into creative and decided to get 30 turtles pregnant and nothing after hours. Been trying for 2 days in the current realm I'm in... They just don't get to that part of their behavior for whatever reason and it's only in the last update that this seems to be occurring. Please fix this. My playstyle is mostly underwater and this is a major set back for me.
I've seen several people claim they're on 1.15.1, but that's impossible. The current release is 1.14.1 for Bedrock and 1.15.1 for Java, but you can't be running Java on a PS4. Please be sure you're reporting the correct release to avoid confusion. This will be even more important in the coming months when Bedrock's release numbers overtake Java's.
Same issue here. I've been to 4 newly generated beaches and newly generated turtles but they all seem not to recognize it as their home beach.
I will confirm that I'm playing windows 10 edition 1.14.1 and turtles won't lay eggs. Tested in a couple realms and with a group of 30 preggo turtles in creative, letting it sit for an hour...twice. I'm not new to breeding turtles as I usually play an underwater playstyle. They simply aren't getting to the stage where they ignore seagrass and lay eggs.
Same here I hope it gets fixed soon. I have made a huge turtle enclosure And no turtles to fill it with. Uhg
Tengo un error, al alimentar las totugas, las tortugas NO PONEN HUEVOS. Juego en Minecraft para PC, Java.
When turtles eat, after it, the turtles don`t lay eggs
Another confirmation turtles will not start digging animation and lay eggs.
Minecraft Bedrock
Windows 10 ver. 1.14.1, Survival, Realm server
Fed four different pairs of turtles at different days and locations.
Both turtles eat and show hearts.
One turtle gets a black layer underneath and will not accept food after.
Neither turtle ever starts digging animation to lay eggs.
All turtles tracked for four in-game days, the black bar stays but no digging happens and no eggs are laid.
No blocks on the beach have been obstructed or changed.
This is sad that I posted this almost a month ago and still no reply, a bunch of other people are having this issue.
Agreed. I never would have expected that it would last this long.
Only visible official response is the closing of duplicate tickets.
I also agree. No response is pretty sad.... Wonder how many votes it takes for something to be noticed.
Without breeding turtles, the only way to get the Turtle Helm is to happen to be close enough to see it when that 1-in-10 chance of a turtle spawning as a baby happens. So far, I’ve managed to spot 4 and trap or feed them to get the scute, one more and I can make the Helm.
Verry annoying the last boths Bug-updates:
My Tutle farm is brocken,
My kelb farm ist brocken,
My Flower farm is brocken and crashed my word....
bugs, bugs, bugs ....
@AlexanderJ on the bright side, you can make a much better flower farm now.
It's been over a month and the turtle mob is functionally useless, this is really frustrating.
Noticed no comments for Nintendo switch having the same issue. Same story as every one else. Have found new chunks with turtles on the beaches, no obstructions or fencing. Have fed sea grass to both, received XP then both have returned to water where I watched for days, never returning to lay. Lured them back to land with sea grass attempting to feed again where only one would take sea grass, other wouldn’t.
Nintendo Switch V 1.14.1
I am having this same issue on Windows 10, kinda disappointing because i wanted to get some eggs to have some turtles in my valley of animals. The turtles will just swim around and rarely they will go back to their beach but never lay eggs.
Can confirm I'm having the same issue on Windows 10 1.14.1 version. Have some turtles in captivity that I fed back in ~October, I assumed they hadn't laid because there wasn't enough space, but they wouldn't eat any new sea grass (four turtles, only one would eat, = other three are in egg laying mode). Decided I wanted a turtle helmet this week so I cleared out more space for them, they still didn't lay. Several wild turtles also stopped accepting grass but never went ashore. Flew to new chunks, tried there with turtles still beside their spawn point on shore, same result.
Very frustrating to have turtle eggs, new turtles, turtle helmets, and turtle master potions all effectively out of the game for the time being.
same issue. tried to breed turtles on my realm. What may be worth mentioning is that I have tried to do this on both Xbox one x and windows 10.
Turtles will not accept seagrass when I try to feed them (or only one of the turtles will).
P.S. I haven't tried searching for wild turtles to see if there is any difference.
EDIT: I went afk for like an hour by my turtle farm and when i came back, eggs were laid.
Same for me to, Turtles will not lay eggs on Windows 10 Edition Realms. Please fix this ASAP!
Same here for me, It really annoys me how the turtles wont lay eggs and I'm doing a project and I NEED THEM!!
[media]!!.
ᵀʰᵉⁱʳ ᴹᵃˢᵗᵉʳ ⁿᵉᵉᵈˢ ᵗʰᵉᵐ
Yeah, they are just swimming circles in the ocean. And they did'nt lay their eggs!
Please fix this!
Still a problem 1/25/2020. Sea turtles spawn in front of me on a beach biome, I feed them sea grass and they don’t do anything at all. Please fix.
Another confirmation of this issue. Playing on Win 10 Bedrock 1.14.1. Even though turtles go into "love mode" after eating sea grass, they swim aimlessly and never lay eggs. I've actually never seen turtle eggs in my game. 😞
Ive had same issues since the newest update and been trying different worlds, creative, survival using the eggs in creative waiting to hatch them then making them adults and breeding them its still not working. At the moment ive got this problem also in my realm. Windows 10 platform.
Geez, new update yesterday (ps4) and this still wasn't fixed. The closest I have gotten to having a bred turtle lay eggs was first unfreezing a frozen female by punching her once, then she went into a sand throwing frenzy forever and never laid an egg. That was 2 weeks ago, she's still kicking up sand but has not laid an egg. Super broken.
Please restrict your comments to providing additional information that might help the developers understand and solve the problem, or that might help other users work around it until it can be fixed.
There's nothing we can do with complaints that it's taking longer than you'd like, because the developers set the priority for fixing a bug. They do pay attention to upvotes, but a bug like this that only interferes with one small mechanic is not likely to take priority over a bug that crashes the game and corrupts a world, potentially destroying years of work, even if the latter bug only affects one player at the moment.
I've had one good result where I punched a frozen turtle and it went and laid eggs, probably because it was fed in an earlier version. Since then, I haven't had any luck with punching them, even though they're right on their home beach! (Btw, this was back in October, on Windows 10, v.1.14.0.)
While I understand the sentiment that comments that do nothing but complain are useless here (people aren't familiar with the idea of a bug tracker as it's not something that's common use among the public; people are familiar with forums/regular comments sections) and should be discouraged so they don't take up space...
I object to the idea that turtle breeding is "one small mechanic". It removes SEVERAL other aspects from game play entirely.
Without the ability to breed turtles you lose access to scutes, and in turn Turtle Helmets with all the features they provide, and in turn Turtle Master Potions, which, while a niche feature, are still useful in many ways.
Not to mention that turtle eggs are a key ingredient in many farm designs since they attract mobs, and those designs are now all impossible to make since new eggs can't be procured.
Certainly none of these are as serious of an issue as outright world corruption, no, but turtles breeding malfunctioning is a significantly larger problem than basically any other mob's breeding. If you need more food, you can always go hunt more wild animals or grow crops. If you need more wolves or cats, you can go tame them from the wild. But all of the turtle-related functionality in the game specifically requires them to lay eggs.
Also, can confirm my turtles that were bred clear back in September, as well as some that were bred about 10 days ago, all of whom have the home beaches known because I hatched them myself or watched them spawn in fresh chunks last week, all still are not laying eggs as of Windows 10 1.14.2 today.
@unknown: I appreciate your well-considered and respectful opinion, and I'll admit that I might have under-valued the importance of turtle spawning to some people, especially those earning an income from the game on YouTube or playing on an SMP server. (Not that my valuation has any practical importance to anybody anyway.) Hopefully, getting me to soften my stance was what you hoped to accomplish, because the only other thing I could do would be to engage you (and probably everybody else following this ticket) in exactly the kind of argument I'm trying to deflect away from the bug tracker.
For now, I'll leave your comment and my reply visible so that others with the same objection can see that it's been expressed and accepted. But if I sense controversy starting to build here, I hope you'll forgive me for having to remove them in favor of keeping the ticket focused.
My world keeps crashing and my villagers and pets are despawning for some reason can anyone help with this problem
Bedrock PS4 - im having problems with turtles laying eggs. I've tried multiple beaches with multiple sets of turtles, from hatchlings to adults on their home Beach . And still after they reached love mode they don't lay eggs.
It has not been mentioned yet on this ticket, but it seems important to note that a bug with the same effect, MCPE-35045, was reported and resolved during the 1.6 betas.
I have tested and and can confirm that the present bug still occurs in the 1.14.20 hotfix. Also noticed that the pregnant turtle can still be attracted with sea grass, but cannot be fed.
/summon turtle ~ ~ ~ minecraft pregnant
/summon turtle ~ ~ ~ minecraft:go_lay_egg
When the new hotfix came out, I ran a couple of command blocks with both until I got a mountain of turtles. None of them could complete their event. So, the go_lay_egg spawn event doesn't seem to work. On a really good day in survival (no cheats), I can skim a beach for only 4-5 total hours to get the scutes to make a turtle shell. It's not impossible, but wow, it's become insanely difficult to find a baby turtle spawn in and get there before anything happens to it or it runs off/dies.
I am facing same issue in 1.14.2. Found turtles on the beach and feed them with seagrasses. Hearts appear and they interacted but are not laying eggs.
Same issue on the PS4 update 2.02. I can even spawn new turtles in on creative and feed them and they still won't lay eggs after breeding.
Can confirm, this is a rather annoying issue as it removes the possibility of getting so many items in the game. Affects exploration, pvp, experimentation, cuteness factor, farming, brewing, and more.
Can confirm same issue on the ps4 edition no turtles will lay eggs though it may seem trivial but this does effect alot of the games mechanics
I have been mostly happy since I switched from java to bedrock, and have ignored all of the hate from java players. But this bug and the lack of timely resolution are starting to make me think that there is a reason they call it "bugrock."
How can you leave a game-breaking bug active for so long?
This game is incredibly popular, and Microsoft has so much money. How is it that their response is worse than the average indie studio?
Can confirm this for xbox, android, ios, windows10, and nintendo switch. Not fixed as of 1.14.2
I have Minecraft windows 10 edition , when feeding turtles ,they just looking to me and don't do any thing (not lay eggs or go to other beash)
Maybe it's intended. They want to make the Turtle Master potions the most valuable potion of them all
Issue is present on the WIndows 10 Edition running version 1.14.2. New turtles spawned with new chunks, after breeding turtles do not lay eggs. This process also leaves one turtle unable to breed as eggs have not been laid.
Same problem on xBox one. Tried in my survival world and in a new creative world. Nothing ever happens after the hearts appear and they mate. They just leave, often de-spawning in the process.
The model I am playing with is IOS, but the turtle still does not try to lay eggs. Even if seaweed is given to each of the two turtles, only a red heart will appear and spawning will not start at all. It was no use even if I widened the sandy beach and watched it for several days. The tortoise spawned in front of us was no good, so isn't it a bug?
same thing is happening to me. after following a Turtle for over an hour like a crazy person nothing happened.
i gave two turtles seagrass. they did there happy Heart kissing dance. and ones under side turned black so i followed it for an hour lol.
nothing happened.
Windows 10 Realms V1.14.30
Getting this same problem. On cross-platform realm with others. I'm on win. 10 and others are on Xbox. Tried mating two different pairs and followed the pregnant ones to no avail. Spent probably 4 hours in total w/ following one of them for 2 hours. Ended up giving up after finding this form. pls fix
Same problem for me (I'm on latest beta although only joined recently and was happening before) although before I attempted to breed any, I found a turtle egg on the beach with a mother going back to the ocean. I don't know if this is a seperate spawning mechanic from breading them with sea grass but i thought I'd leave it in case it helped.
Thank you for your patience while we work on getting this resolved, we hope to have this bug fixed as soon as possible.
Xbox One 1.14.30
Not laying eggs after mating still. Just a suggestion, could the turtles conditions be adjusted to lay eggs on the nearest appropriate beach while the algorithm gets corrected. This bug breaks the ability for underwater exploration, which is something me and my son's wanted to do over the Christmas holidays. There are losing interest in the game sadly.
Thankyou and best of luck with the issue.
@unknown: Bugs go to the devs who do code work, while suggestions need to be screened by he design team before they decide to implement them. The bug tracker only deals in bugs. To make a suggestion, please use the Feedback site. (It's a good idea to search the Feedback site for prior suggestions, just like the bug tracker.)
same issue, switch version, turtles are exceedingly rare on the world, and the few that i have found and fed, do not lay eggs after the pregnant status
There seems to be a dual problem with the “go home” AI component. Turtles become visibly pregnant when bred but then wander and do not return home, and when they happen to be at spawn they do not lay eggs. I used an NBT editor to locate a pregnant turtle exactly at its home coordinates and it still did not lay an egg. So, it looks like the turtle AI is currently not initializing the “go home” goal and not checking whether it is complete either.
Maybe the whole “go home” component code got deleted or commented out 😛
Is there any update on this issue? Is it normal for issues in this game to go 2+ months with no resolution?
It's normal for any game, really. How quickly bugs can be addressed depends on three factors: how many other bugs are in the queue to be fixed (and the relative urgency of a bug within the queue), how difficult it is to locate the cause of the bug, and how difficult it is to fix without breaking something else.
Same thing has been going on for a while. I guess all hands are on the neather update right now aside from bug fixes. I managed to breed them with successful laying once. I left the eggs where they were, let them hatch. Bread them after speed ageing them. And then the same thing happened as the rest of the times beforehand. Either swimming in circles, or just not moving.
@zenix can you provide more detail on the one egg that your turtle laid? Such as game mode, seed, coordinates, time between breeding and egg laying, single-player/multiplayer/realm/server, behavior packs, what was in your inventory, etc.?
Same here on xbox one you get experience for breeding but they just sit there and do nothing.
just an "out of curiosity" suggestion, have you tried building an island made of sand in area that pregnant turtle swims in circles around? only asking because I experienced a similar issue, but my pregnant turtle went more than 3000 blocks (euclidean) away from location she was originally hatched, to lay eggs. Then, when she got there, she just circled until I replaced dirt with sand, and she laid eggs. I followed her for hours, and server owner followed most of the trip. I reported mine with all details as MC-173041, in case GoldenHelmet would like more details from mine. one difference in mine and all that I have seen listed here is that these all seem to be bedrock edition, and mine is Java edition 1.15.2
This is the Bedrock part of the bug tracker, that's why the reports are all from Bedrock players. The may be related, they may not, depending on whether both codebases use the same code for this.
Same issue on the Nintendo Switch. Issue only started after the update and now they swim in the same area and will not breed again. Had some eggs saved up and tried it with new turtles, and they will not lay eggs either.
Same here on the PC-Windows 10. Turtle gets pregnant and then moves to a place and is all silent and doesn't move anymore. Nothing happens, and I can't even lure her with seagrass. I've killed 2 Turtles for this (poor ladies, R.I.P.), but it happens to every turtle that gets pregnant. I now have 3 Turtles that are stuck.
Same issue on Xbox One X Bedrock Edition Realms survival mode........two months later and no fix........went around for 10+ in-game days today just breeding turtles (probably found 30+) by feeding them both sea grass only to watch the pregnant one aimlessly swim in circles and never lay eggs. Only on my last attempt of the night I was able to find a pair of turtles directly next to their home beach. Instead of laying eggs, the pregnant turtle swam over to the beach and just popped out a baby turtle like she gave birth. Also tried reloading the world multiple times throughout but I'm not sure that does anything for realms. Kinda butthurt Mojang hasn't fixed this yet, I really want to farm scutes for the helmets as well as turtle master potions.
same issue on the windows 10 beta. with the added bonus if you dont trap a turtle they despawn too quickly.
@Michael Vale, 2 questions about your live birth turtle: are you sure it wasn’t just a random baby turtle spawn? Are you/the realm running any behavior packs?
Same issue for me, Win10 v1.14.30 no resource or behavior packs installed, 100% vanilla survival world, not on Realms. The turtles mate and pregnant turtle will either just sit there or roam/swim around never laying eggs. I tried copying my world and using creative to spawn eggs/turtles on the exact spot and it still does not work.
@GoldenHelmet there's a chance it could have been a random spawn but the baby turtle appeared from underneath of the mother, whom I had just fed sea grass and bred no more than 2 minutes before, after she swam over to a nearby beach and shook around on the sand for a few seconds. I am not the owner of the realm but I'm fairly certain we aren't running any behavior packs, I can double check on that later tonight though
It doesn't sound like a random spawn, but it also isn't the expected behaviour for a baby to appear instead of an egg. But if your turtles are getting to the point of digging in the sand, then that's more than the rest of us have.
@Angell Harding granted this was the only turtle out of about 30 that I was able to get the digging animation for, the rest just swam around never finding their home beach. I just got lucky with this one being right next to her home beach
This is a video of a turtle that appears to be stuck in the digging animation (in 1.14.30).
I captured this after breeding about 20 turtles on a 1-chunk sand platform in a superflat test world and then leaving the turtles alone for about 1 hour. More than half of the turtles are gone since I bred them, probably because they pushed each other off of the platform to their deaths. However, one is digging as if to lay an egg. I watched it dig for over a minute after recording this video.
This experience, coupled with the few reports in the comments here of isolated egg-layings, makes me think the problem could be with the random timing of the turtles reproductive phases. In the behavior pack, as I understand it (based on the wiki, but I could be wrong) the turtle "go home" behavior is set to have a 1/700 chance of running each second after the turtle gets pregnant. That means that, on average, a pregnant turtle should wander for about 11 minutes before heading home. I wonder if something changed in the hard-coding of how that random chance is being read, so that the "700" is read as something like 1/7000 seconds (just under 2 hours)? If there was a deep code change in how random timers are processed, it could also explain why the digging animation goes on so long too.
UPDATE: the turtle that was stuck digging did not stop digging, but another dug and laid an egg when I relogged. After that success I tested breeding about 40 turtles and got a few eggs in an hours time. That led me to set up a more precise test as follows.
I set up 40 turtles in 4 adjacent chunks (10 to a chunk, with dividing walls in between to avoid clumping due to MCPE-45800). I ran hopper minecarts under the sand to collect any scutes and then bred the turtles and went afk for 2 hours. When I came back, I had 1 scute collected, 3 sets of eggs at advanced stages of cracking, and I was able to watch a turtle lay an egg within a few minutes. That equals 5 egg-laying events in 2 hours from 20 pregnant turtles. I believe that extrapolates to an average of 4 hours for any given turtle to lay an egg.
The good news is that egg laying is not completely broken and the AI functions are not outright missing. The bug seems to be in the timing factor. I don't know what the average time to lay/go-home was before this bug, but I would guess it has to be somewhere between 20 and 400 times slower than it should be. (If the "700" interval in the .json is in seconds it should average 11 minutes to go lay an egg; if it is 700 ticks it should average 35 seconds to go lay an egg.)
UPDATE #2: after another 2 more hours afk, 6 more egg layings from the same group of 40 turltes (20 pregnant). That's about the same pace as the first 2 hours.
There seems to be some kind of bug with the game unable to read the files continuously. I have to keep logging back into my world for mobs to work properly—if it works at all. The villagers are messed up too. I wonder if both problems, among others, are related?
Edit: wanted to confirm this is happening on Win 10 version. I breed the turtles in the water away from the home beach. The one goes right to it and onto the beach. The problem is that she doesn't play with the sand or lay the egg. Just sat their motionless. Got her to move but she left the beach and swam away. While I wasn't looking, she laid an egg on another beach next to there. So idk what took place.
Second Attempt: Did the same thing. Except I didn't get her to look at me while she on the sand. I'm far away enough. As of typing this, she is still in the same position and motionless. I relogged. She started back into the water. Maybe 3-5 minutes later she tried to get onto the other beach again. I saw sand particles so I pushed her onto the beach and she laid eggs. They also seem to have a hard time moving. They go in circles which is why I felt the need to push her onto the sand. She kept turning in the water brushing against the beach as she passed it swimming.
@Wolff not sure what you mean by mobs not working properly, but there are some reports on lag issues in the 1.15 betas that might fit what you are dealing with, e.g, MCPE-64344.
With regard to turtles,I can confirm that turtles are not going home to lay eggs. All of the eggs I saw in my test described in my previous comment were laid along the edges of the enclosures I made, but I spawned and bred all across each chunk. I have also run another test with a single 64x64 walled platform centered at x=0 z=0. Spawned and bred at the center, and after about 20-30 minutes an egg was laid at x=-1 z=-31, up against the northern wall.
The AI is unstable or broken. It will work for a moment upon entering the world but will stop responding properly, if at all, during gameplay. It happens with villagers too. Plus the turtles have a 1 in 700s chance i think, which i think you or someone mentioned and if i change it to 1 the turtles will go to the beach immediately but will just sit there forever. Unless i shut the world and reopen. Also if I stay in the world and just move the turtle far enough from the sand, it will sometimes move back on to there and start laying. With villagers, they won't breed or recognize new stations/beds until i shut and reopen the world. What i am suggesting is that this ticket could be a symptom of a much bigger problem involving other mobs/tickets.
A tip: if you fire snowballs at the paired turtles after a few minutes (they do no harm), they lay eggs "faster" ... you have to do it again and again.
The snowballs seem to be resetting the AI.
I play bedrock version v1.14.41 on ps4. Same turtle problem for me. I have fired 4 stacks of 16 snowballs at my pregnant turtles and the most I got was 1 climbed a tree. What version do you play and how many snowballs did you use?
@bugsbugsbugs because AlexanderJ. said snowballs worked for him. Other commenters have reported that punching turtles triggered them to start laying. Others have said relogging can trigger it. The point is to reset the AI’s choice of which behavior to run. It should be clear from preceding comments and described tests that the bug consists of turtles not initiating/continuing/completing the homing, digging, and egg-laying behaviors when they should.
Strangely, the wander, look-at-player, tempt, breed, and go-to-water behaviors seem to work just fine.
FWIW I tired shooting a pregnant turtle with about 80 snowballs and it did not work for me.
I am having this issue on PS4 also. Bought the PS4 specifically to play Minecraft as the PS3 is no longer getting updates. On a sidenote, I miss the character skins from the PS3 version.
I have this problem on windows 10 platform. My friends and I have tried to mate them in a personal game and BDS, but both failed.
On windows 10 platform also - having same issue among other things. FWIW - I saw the turtles spawn, so I know I'm breeding them on the beach they spawned on
Spent a number of hours searching for turtles and breeding them on Windows 10 edition. The turtles were bred on the beaches they spawned on, but did not lay eggs. I followed turtles even when they left and they swam around in circles. I followed one in particular that I bred and could not feed Seagrass to anymore for around 45 minutes. It swam in circles. I hope these turtles will re-spawn on beaches in my world when this problem is resolved because if not I would have to travel over 3,000 blocks to get to a new beach area to search. Please resolve issue.
Honestly glad that I posted this a while back; figured no one else was having this issue, and I constantly check back here for updates.. hope this is brought up in the next patch.

someone update the "Affected versions". this bug affects beta 1.15.0.56
i have just finished testing. Update 1.15.0.56: the rumored so-called "bug fix" update
Again, this is not a discussion forum. Comments here should be addressed to the developers, not to each other, and should contain new information that might help Mojang better understand and solve the problem. The conversation you have been engaged in should be moved to Reddit, Discord, or the like.
The bug is still present in beta 1.16.0.51 on Win 10 as well. attempted the several solutions suggested such as snowballs and others with no success in them laying their eggs.
Please make sure that comments are related to reported bug and written respectfully towards other players and development team. Offtopic, arguments and insults will be removed and author will be banned.

Not sure if this is helpful - I originally had two turtles, one spawned on a beach, the other I lured from a different beach. I bred them, the one from the other beach became "pregnant" but would not lay eggs. Three more turtles randomly spawned so I killed the turtle that wouldn't lay eggs (I know, not particularly logical, but I was frustrated). I trapped the three new turtles in a pen on the beach they spawned on. I bred two of them, one becoming pregnant. It wouldn't lay eggs and the other never became willing to breed with the third until I hit him. I was then able to breed that one with the third. I then had a total of four turtles, two who are pregnant but won't lay eggs (even though I've hit them). The original turtle is still around, trapped in his own pen. I can't do anything with him because I don't have a second turtle in that pen. The other turtle that wasn't pregnant despawned, leaving me with two pregnant turtles in that pen. I can't remember if I hit that turtle again to successfully reset him, I probably did. The first turtle may still be stuck on bred but not pregnant as I don't believe I ever hit him, which would explain why he hasn't despawned.
Can confirm is still an issue in the Windows 10 1.16.0.51 beta. To be clear this bug affects all platforms.
I don't know what help this will but my turtles who entered the egg laying animation but never stop are able to swim just fine ( I nudged them into the water ) but when they surface again they reenter the egg laying animation and again don't stop. Also if the player is outside of turtles eye line they enter the animation more frequently.
This bug affects pocket edition as well not just Xbox one I followed a pregnant turtle for hours and nothing happened I got some trapped on home beach still no eggs
@Bobbie Robbington that is what they are supposed to do, but they have not been doing it since 1.14 came out over 3 months ago. If you have a world in which turtles are behaving properly, please share it.
@everyone, please only comment new information on the bug.
@unknown: We do not have access to the status of a fix. Questions such as this should be addressed to Community Management.
I'm having the same issue. Every turtle I come across doesn't lay eggs. They mate and one gets bigger but they just walk around the beach until they forget they're pregnant.
My friend and I have been trying for hours at all different spots and everything it work work either. They breed but won’t lay eggs
PLEASE FIX THE TURTLES OMGG THE PREGNANT ONES JUST KEEP SPINNING IN CIRCLES INSTEAD OF GOING BACK TO HOME BEACH
I am also having this issue (not sure how to report bugs)
I've found an island with several turtles bread them labeled them with numbers marine biologists style when enclosed the pregnant female would not lay her eggs so o let her out and followed her for 45 full minutes she swam aimlessly and did not breach shore have up and tried again repeated this 5 other times 7 turtles all tagged I even found the first female tagged 00-1 while I was tailing the last to her home beach the first was still clearly pregnant several days later
Playing bedrock on the ps4
Occurs as above on the most updated PS4 Bedrock update- turtles only spawn as 1 turtle in an area, no eggs spawn (or at least I've never seen eggs in game), after breeding the bred turtle will jump into water then swim in circles and will not lay an egg or relocate to home beach.
Me and my friends are playing on my realm we couldnt get wild turtles to breed. so i tried in creative put down the eggs they hatched. i have roughly 9 pregnant turtles none of them are laying eggs. they just swim around and ive literally left come back stayed pushed them onto their home beach led them there. they will not give birth. turtles are one of my favorites so i would love for this to be fixed especially since without baby turtles im pretty sure you cant get scutes. and i enjoy turtle helmets
also yes im using seagrass and turtles are supposed to lay eggs on either their home beach or beaches that turtles have hatched on before. they do neither. they get pregnant and hold it in.
Hello, I have been avoiding commenting on this post because I don't have any information to add, so I know this comment isn't helpful. But I'm getting very tired of seeing all these emails coming through with negative comments from people that don't have faith in the developers. I don't know why so many people feel the need to be so hostile. Do they think being mean will make the bug get fixed faster? I don't know. But I wish it would stop. I have no doubt that the Bedrock team is working very hard to fix this bug. I know that Mojang cares about player feedback and listens to their community. And since this bug is important to us, I know it's important to them too. I understand why people are frustrated, but please remember, the devs are people too. How would you feel if you were working so hard to try to fix a bug for your community, and you kept getting comments from people saying you were just doing nothing? Have some faith, guys. Be kind to one another.
This happening to Windows PC too, the turtle spawns there but when l use seagrasses and breed the exp pop out but they would not lay their eggs.
Hey I know this bug isnt that huge in the grand scheme of the game, as it only really affects 2 mobs and 4 items, but I had nothing better to do today so i went and checked every platform I could think of. I can confirm it for xbox, windows 10, oculus rift, ios, and android (I dont have a playstation). I believe that makes it all versions? But if I'm missing any please let me know and I'll try them out asap
@Christian Kauffman This Bug is on all Bedrock Platforms. I own Minecraft Bedrock edition for both Xbox One & Ps4 and it’s on Ps4 as well. It’s frustrating because this bug doesn’t happen occasionally but every time you try to breed Sea Turtles.
Guys, there is this weird screenshot of another ticket in the attachments section. It is irrelevant, someone please remove it.
I checked personally 37 couples of turtles, trying to follow them after breeding them but nothing keeps happening. Please solve it.
Same problem here. Fed both turtles, Female wont eat after fed once. They mate and then she does nothing. PS4
Same issue xbox one - latest version (nt beta) - happens in survival with random turtles as well as creative with turtles I spawn
Xbox one player here. Having this issue too. Have bred multiple pairs over the course of several days and they just jump in the ocean and swim forever instead of heading to the home beach to lay.
Windows 10 edition player. I've been spending my last two hours trying to breed turtles to get the eggs but the female won't lay the eggs nor swim back to home beach
Na hora de nadar o personagem fica com os braços para cima em vez de nadar normal
I've got the same problem on Nintendo Switch. The turtle is indeed pregnant but never bothers to lay the egg.
I seem to have the issue on all xbox variants. My xbox one, my xbox one x, and my xbox one s seem to all have this issue. Don't know if it should make a difference, but im just saying it just in case if it does
When are they going to fix this issue?? I just wasted so much of my time trying to get this to work and researching how to fix the issue. It was a bug all along. But seriously, are they going to fix this or what?
I have been trying for days on Xbox One to get turtle eggs. The turtles get bigger like they need to lay eggs but they never go back to their spawn and never start digging. I've tried it on turtles that were already there at their spawn, and still no digging is happening.

I had to wait 2(maybe 3...I can't remember) nights keeping the turtle on the sand and she laid an egg at sunrise.
Same issue on Switch Bedrock version. Female appeared bigger after mating but swam in circles for hours and did not lay eggs. VERY FRUSTRATING
Going to see if I can find a new thread or if I need to start one - turtles lay eggs and the eggs eventually hatch, but the baby turtles disappear if you go more than 24 blocks away from them (I have a turtle farm with a 2 high wall around the area the turtles breed and eggs hatch with a fence above that and a hopper minecart under the sand that is supposed to collect the scutes when the turtles grow). If I feed the babies seagrass they grow into adults and don't disappear. If I walk away without doing that the babies disappear
@Dave Fritz An update to how mobs despawn happened. Try feeding the babies just a little if you need to leave.
According to https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Spawn#Despawning it's a bug:
In Bedrock Edition, entities with persistence do not despawn naturally. Entities are given persistence in the following situations:
@Dave Fritz thank you for creating MCPE-70664 to report baby turtles despawning after the fix to egg-laying in 1.16.0.57 beta. Let’s continue dealing with that issue on its own ticket.
Has anyone been able to confirm that this issue has indeed been fixed in 1.16.0.57? I play on iOS, so I am not able to test it myself.
@Heidi Corbeil yes, Dave Fritz’s comment.
I am in 1.14.60, this also affects me and i saw that it doesn't have that for affected versions
Hello, I don't know if it has already been commented that the turtles are not entering the boats. I Play Version 1.14.60.
@Jean Weslei Soares, there is a post about this on the Minecraft Feedback site. https://feedback.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/community/posts/360058388492-Java-Parity-Turtles-In-Boats
So I think they are considering this more of a parity request than a bug.
hello, im having some issues with turtles, i made a island when i founded some turtles i made few months back but one of them isnt laying. just curious if its gonna get fixed, no pressure, just waiting patiently. Thanks, Elite Godstin (Austin Haney).
@unknown: The bug tracker doesn't actually track bugs, it's just a tool for reporting them to Mojang. The staff is mostly just a bunch of community volunteers. We don't have access to Mojang internal systems so we can't answer questions about fix progress. For that, you need to ask Community Management.
Using Bedrock Beta 1.16.0.60 Win 10 PC
Date as of message:
Attempt 1: Mating+love hearts (they may have been in love first - I dunno 😉) - female goes stationary on beach - no eggs layed - nudged her into water. Tried to breed again - male (I guess) takes grass but female won't take grass so she must still be in egg laying sequence but no eggs layed. Took advice above and punched female (sorry!), who then goes swimming in water but returns to same beach where she mated to lay an egg. Almost as if something was reset.
Attempt 2: Not sure if same pair of turtles, but breeding was successful first time with all sequences running as normal, sand flicking, etc and female lays egg normally.
Since this attempt, the beach has in excess of 5+ adults hanging around but there are two eggs on the beach secured by walls but not sure if this attracts them or not as I dont have code.
I would suggest interacting with female, nudging, punching gently, digging sand blocks around her, etc , etc to reset something if you are having problems. Also, you may have to follow turtles to make sure they are on their "home" beach.
All events on same beach - all under 2 hours of play.
Hello) Have the same problem at Minecraft for Windows 10 v1.14.60 and a few other bugs. Spent a few hours to make them mating, a few pair - nothing work. Finally, found out on English Wiki that in Bedrock version due to the bug, turtles do not lay eggs. So that how I came here.
I play on the PS4 and had 4 wild turtles spawn on my beaches and so I breed them on land nothing happened I was able to feed one turtle but not the other (after the lovey hearts) I was waiting 10 mins and nothing happened. Please Help I´m Desprate For Turtles!
FYI unknown update
I wish I had researched this before waiting whole day trying to breed turtles. Playing on switch on realms. Please fix this soon Mojang. Very annoying.
they fixed it a couple betas ago. When they release 1.16 it will be fixed. Each beta is a little smaller than the last - just fixing bugs at this point. No release date announced yet, but shouldn't be too much longer
20/20 turtles laying eggs successfully as of 1.14.60. Just stand and wait by its home beach patiently. Use seagrass as a leash. The turtle will attempt repeatedly between wait time in range of seconds and up to 20 minutes. But, other times it may farther several more attempts into 30 to an hour. Eventually, they will lay. I have yet find the cause of delay. I believe it is not ideal. Wiki stated it takes few minutes to lay egg, not as immediate as other animals.
How to know when:
As soon as the turtle ignores you, moving toward the potential lay location. When it stops, either starts digging or pause for a second and returning to you. Each attempt will have turtle randomly choose the lay location nearby.
For those who was hitting turtle to reset may have been just coincidence.
So my daughters have asked me to help with this turtle farm they want we found turtles and feed them seagrass like the videos and that show. we are on a Minecraft realm v 1.14.60 I have spent more than 5 hours trying to help my girls figure out what is going on and following turtles after breading them to no avail. they are just not laying eggs like they should and will not go to their home beach to lay.
Best to spot them where they just spawned and have them follow and stick with you by home beach, and then breed.
Turtles have to lay eggs on sand.Gotta get them to lay eggs on their home beach first. When they lay,use silk touch to extract the eggs and take them to where you want them to hatch. That will now be their home beach. Feed the hatchlings there, repeat.🙂
They don’t lay eggs at all every time I ever tried they diddnt lay any eggs and also I have never seen 2 spawn on a beach at the same time well actually I think it happened once but I tried breeding them and they diddnt lay any eggs
Me and my house mate have been playing the game on the ps4 for a while know and we have tried everything the turtles get fed once we get the xp they do circle before the just wander off when we follow them they either stay under water or they go to new sand are but no turtle eggs are spawned we have seen one or 2 random baby turtles but there very rare to come across please can you do something to sort this problem out
This does not happen on the latest version, aka 1.16.0.63. I do not know why it says it affects 1.16.0.60 and above.
@unknown: The list of affected versions does not include 1.16.0.63. It doesn't say it was fixed, either, so you shouldn't assume either way. There's no "and above" on the bug tracker.
Normally, a moderator here updates the Fix Version field (and resolves the ticket as Fixed) when the developers tell us they've fixed the issue. Since we haven't been told yet, it probably means Mojang hasn't actually fixed it yet. There are multiple possibilities why it might look fixed to you when Mojang still considers it in progress:
It may have been fixed inadvertently when they fixed something else. (This happens more often than you might imagine.) In such cases, Mojang themselves probably don't yet know they've fixed it.
It may have been partially fixed so that it now works on some platforms or in certain kinds of worlds, but not all of them. Mojang doesn't tell us it's fixed until they believe they've fixed it completely.
Some users have reported that it usually fails but works correctly once in a while. You might have just been lucky and had one of those rare successes.
Moderators and helpers on the bug tracker also update the Affects Versions field when either we've seen it for ourselves or somebody in the community comments that it's still affecting them. We haven't had any reports of it on 1.16.0.63 yet, and I guess we haven't gotten around to testing it, so that would explain why it's not listed as an affected version.
@thcrafter06: A few weeks ago a module was added to the bot "Arisa" that helps maintain the bug tracker, so that Arisa now adds affected versions from any duplicate reports linked to a ticket. Thus, 1.16.0.60 is on this ticket because it is on the duplicate report MCPE-77148. Unfortunately, sometimes bug reporters add the wrong versions by mistake. That looks to be the case with MCPE-77148 because it includes both the current release version (1.14.60) and the beta version that was current at the time it was created (1.16.0.60).
This report already has a fix version listed (1.16.0.57), and we have not seen any credible reports that the fix is not working. However, we leave tickets unresolved if they continue to affect the current release version. Since this bug is fixed in beta, the fix should be included in the next release version, and the ticket will be resolved at that point. No exact date can be given.
Same here playing on ps4 with latest updates tried everything i could find on the internet and achieved nothing after a solid week of trying
Note above that this issue is still "Unresolved" and that the Fix version is listed as a 1.16 Beta. That means the fix should appear in (non-Beta) version 1.16 when it's released. The PlayStation is not eligible to participate in the Beta test, so you don't yet have access to the fix. No date has been set yet for the 1.16 regular release.
CatherinexoxCatherine Weir This is already fixed in a beta. Wait until the update gets released. The update is going to release on Tuesday.
An FYI to everyone watching this bug: once you get your turtle eggs in the new update, be careful how you hatch them. Due to MCPE-70664 the baby turtles can despawn immediately after hatching if you are a certain distance away. (The distance will depend on your world's simulation distance.) Please vote for that bug to show your interest in getting it fixed.
I played on Nintendo switch and this happens too
the AI of the turtle "freezes", she can't swim either
Confirmed that this is finally fixed on Xbox 1.16.1. The turtles finally swam "home" and laid eggs! When bred in succession, sometimes they doodled around in circles in the water before returning to land, but they definitely had "go home" on the brain when pregnant.
I am currently on Bedrock - Windows 10 version 1.17.11 and this issue is still happening. I am trying to breed turtles, they lay eggs and then stop wanting to eat or swim around anywhere. I've managed to have them lay 5 eggs, but that's it.
Turtles are going back to their beach for me, but don't actually lay their eggs, they just crawl around for awhile and then go back in the ocean.
