Realm rollback overnight since 1.13

We have now deployed a fix to Realms servers which will help to prevent the loss of progress when all players leave the Realm. We would very much like to hear back from players as to whether this particular issue is resolved for you, before we mark the ticket as fixed.

Please note that we are still investigating some crashing issues, which may be a separate issue.


This is not a forum post, if you can add information (other than the ones we know already), or maybe a workaround, then feel free, but otherwise, just press the "Vote on this issue" and/or "Start watching this issue" to give it a Bump and get updates once we got news back from Mojang.

Also, please moderate your comments towards Mojang Team, if you are unsatisfied with the service, raise a complaint, but this is a Bug Report, not a Customer Service Claim.

Description:
Dear Mojang Support Team,

I have a 10 player realm subscription, and since 1.13, we are experiencing 2-3 hour rollbacks.

The game on this paid server is literally unplayable like this.

How it appears:
I join in, start playing around, build, explore etc... Log off (normal log off, via escape menu).
If I join back immediately, or ~5 minutes later, the realm is properly putting me back to where I left off.

The next day/or even same day afternoon, when I log on, I find myself directly at the point where I started out last time. All items, chunks and inventory are re-set.

Canceling subscription until this gets resolved, since I see REALMS-4 didn't get any support at all.

Also as I see, we are not the only ones experiencing this, but didn't find an open ticket for the 1.13 re-appearance of this bug: [https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/dpx9l7/realms_not_saving/

Update 1: We got it confirmed, that a huge amount of players experience this across all platforms and both small to big Realms.
Update 2: Confirmed Automatic Save/Load backups are also affected by this issue.
Update 3: Mega Spud confirms, that bug is reported to Mojang internal Bug tracker and the issue will be fixed in a next update.
Update 4: Manual backups made from one client, which is not logged on the Realm, while another one is logged on into the Realm do keep the updates.
(Possible workaround, but not a solution for sure.) (By @Harper, Unconfirmed yet, however sounds reasonable.)
Update 5: If we erase and create a new map, the rollbacks still occur. So the Realm doesn't specifically roll back to pre 1.13 state.

I have a similar issue, but backups seem to work for me (about every 30 minutes, one is created.) Logging out does not save progress on the realm, though.

Tried backups of up to 15 hours back (made around the time I logged off at night) and yet same rolled back world from that days afternoon, so the 2-3 hr progress before log off didn't save.

And you also see that this is not really how it should work 🙂

Agree Jake,

If we could select version like for Java, and just rollback both realm and client until it gets fixed I wouldn't mind, but cannot even host a 24/7 server myself for Bedrock like the Java client.

So the original Multiplayer functionality we have in minecraft since classic, as it is, is now completely useless in bedrock, except when we are all online at the same time.

Perhaps this would get more upvotes if the title described the actual issue? "Realms not consistently saving backups". This is the reason why rollbacks after crashes, restarts, are reloading the last available backup.

We need four things.

  • Mojang fix your backup schedule to make it perform one the moment it misses one.

  • Give Owners the ability to immediate create a backup from the backups screen. This will allow owners to ensure a proper backup is made after key changes in the realm to important in game configurations such as command blocks, etc. Sometimes you cannot just wait around for the next available backup.

  • Give owners the ability to configure the process time to create a backup as well as the interval between backups.

  • Create a server log that owners can access so we can confirm that an error happened that resulted in a crash/missed backup. Right now we have virtually nothing for logging.

I have been having this same issue.  Multiple times we have lost progress.

The only temporary workaround I've found is that you must wait for an auto-save to occur before using "Save & Quit" from the game. So when you're done playing, just stay in one spot and keep checking the saved backups section every few minutes until you see one appear. After it appears, it seems you can log off and retain your current progress. (tedious I admit!)

Piper, my temp workaround was canceling the subscription and hosting a Java server from my PC.
I know how to create a 24/7, reliable and reachable server with proper saves and world backups since beta, I choose Bedrock and Realms for convenience.

And it just lost that perk due to this, and slow reaction from dev team. (Wonder if testers even play realms for a couple days before releases).
So we are back to our old (and free!) mode until this gets fixed.

@Natalie Have you tried getting back into the realms after 30-60 minutes after it seems to have saved? I once tried saving the world, it worked, but after about 30 minutes I rejoined that world, everything has been reset again.

I was so happy to tell the members of my realm that it has fixed too — just to find out that the issue is still persistent and the realms world is still un-playable.

I did get back in to a different save point, and still can’t progress. It seemed having one person in the realm log in fixed the issue temporarily, and now the bug is back.

Owners can create a backup at any given time by downloading the world.  Any time you download the world, it also uses that download as one of the backups server side..

Hi,
I play Minecraft on a Xbox One 1TB over a paid Xbox Live Gold Subscription on a paid Minecraft Monthly Subscription to Realms, and after getting the forced 1.13 update, I found that choosing the save, and exit option is no longer working. Again, I can no longer manually save, and exit my game progress. The only way my game saves is by the auto backup feature which kicks in only every half hour (30 minutes) or so, sometimes 1 hour (very rarely). There were a few initial instances where I logged off using the save, and exit option to come back, and seeing multiple 30 minutes of progress were lost.

Those lost 30 minute game progressions add up to hours considering not only does the save, and exit option no longer works but there are multiple instances of the game crashing or getting disconnected from server for no apparent reason. Approaching certain pillagers, being within a few block distances of certain pillagers, shooting arrows at certain pillagers, throwing potions, or doing certain ordinary actions seem to almost certainly get me disconnected from my realms server or crashes both my Minecraft game, and my Xbox console to the point where it becomes unresponsive, and I have to manually power down, and power back up my Xbox console. And of course because of the getting disconnected from server, Minecraft game crashing, xbox console becoming unresponsive due to Minecraft, I again find myself losing more game progression. These major problems all started happening after the forced 1.13 update.

So realizing the exit, and save option no longer works I have to manually check the last auto backup, time it so I log off my game right after the game creates a auto backup. If I want to log off my gaming session I am forced to wait 30 minutes (sometimes more, very rarely) until the game creates a auto backup or I am forced to lose all progress for the last 30 minutes (or more) every single time . If I exit the game with the last game created auto backup 29 minutes ago, I lose all progress up until that 29 minute mark.

I'm looking forward to the game getting back to the state of working as intended without these faults in the game. I'd rather not have to manually download my world, use up my allotted bandwidth, use up unnecessary hard drive space, make my hard drive wear, and tear faster from manually downloading my world and writing unnecessary data to it, spending extra time sorting my worlds manually, etc, etc.

Iam lose Realms progress (around 1-2 hours) too. Also i cant save my realm world om my phone (473MB). Game say "no free space"... But i have 38 GB of store! (samsung a50, android 9).

Experienced the same issue here on the iOS MCPE/Bedrock platform. Logged off from playing the new update on Tues then when I came back on later my progress on the Realm was removed. The second time was followed the same day I realised the first rollback when my terrain terraforming got reset. This is definitely a serious issue as it really sets players back on progress and makes you want to stop playing. Hopefully a Hotfix releases promptly, bad for an update but also for a paid subscription service for Realm owners.

I'm honestly terrified to even try and play on our realm right now. Rollbacks have been happening multiple times a day, sometimes multiple times an hour. It's inexcusable.

This is a problem that had already been happening, mind you - just for some reason 1.13 has taken it from 2-3 times a week to at least that many a day on our busy realm. :/ There better be some refunds.

This has never happened to me prior to my 1.13 update. Now it occurs every hour or two - it will kick all the users at the same time and rewind to last save point (often back to the last re-join (after being kicked)....

Sorry, not much more useful info other than if started happening every 20-30 minutes when we had all three of us on the same three player Realm.

Some of the rewinds have happened while we've been offline - seems to revert to previous save.

It's like being in Groundhog day. I'm cancelling Realms and moving the Realm to a local game on a standalone machine that I can do proper version control on (and roll-backs when things go this badly wrong!)..

1.13 has several other HUGE bugs that have broken almost every Realms piece of redstone and several workstations (grindstone), not to mention all the visual glitching.

We're seeing this on Windows10, XBox and Android.

I can also confirm this bug. It happened to me a few times but I didn’t make much progress to care. Last night, however, I was in the middle of building a gold farm. I come back online this morning to see 80% of my work reverted. Please continue working hard on this!

Last night I got lucky and just missed out on a couple stacks of sand smelted. Logged on this morning to find them still in my inventory. Hope the house I started is still there tonight! Logged off and on a few times within a short period of time and no problems.

A few nights ago, my friends and I spent around 3 hours constructing a new community area (with buildings, roads, fountains, etc.) in our realm. I logged on yesterday morning to find that all of the construction was completely reverted. I searched online if others were having this issue and apparently I was not alone. Mojang needs to fix this ASAP; realms is a payed service, and problems like this need to be fixed immediately.

Same for me on a 10 players realm running with iOS clients only. Since 1.13 update, I constantly loose progress and the realm resets to where I started. It practically only saves every 2nd logout. I'm cancellinbg my subscription today till this is fixed.

This is not the first time either, many months ago this happened whereby we actually lost months worth exploring / building and it was deemed irreparable 😞
You guys need to sort what causes this and fix it, and give us a means of properly fixing corrupt realms.

Same issue for me. Cannot use my payed realm due to this.

 

Note that when you save & quite and come back immediately there appears to be no problem. However, if you stay out of the server for an hour or so and come back; lots of progress is lost.

 

I assume that after players left the realm, the server will stay active for a short period. When the server stops it no longer saves the changes whereas it previously did.

Is there any workaround for this ?  For example, does it help to download the realm when quitting ?

Not sure if this has been mentioned or not, but it appears to roll back to the way the world was before the 1.13 update. This happens roughly 20 mins after everyone has logged off as far as i can tell, maybe less.

Could it be todo with the backup system, or maybe thats just when the world goes offline?

That is false unfortunately, I've erased and created a new map on the realm, and it rolled back around 2 hrs of work.
So they are not frozen in time before the update, just not saving properly. Thank you for the help nevertheless.

Maby the users are not considered logged out so it doesn't register a save. Iv noticed it will show 2 people online after iv already logged out of both accounts.

This is happening on my Windows 10 and Switch versions. I can confirm Harper's technique for making backups, (which I did with friends). I am able to do it without a second device by logging out and immediately downloading the world, however both are risky in the case of a random disconnect before you have a chance to make the backup manually.

After I download my Realm, if I log back in right away, it says the latest backup was "Just Now". But after that it won't do any automatic backups, which I think is the core of the problem.

I dunno if this'll help with solving the root cause or not, but this issue was happening to me on my Realm as well when particular add-on mobs would spawn. I'm the developer of the Wolves+ add-on, and in 1.13, as I was testing new features for the add-on, certain mobs that would load just find on an offline world would crash the realm and cause a rollback like the ones described here.

 

The interesting thing about this is that there didn't seem to be an obvious cause for the crashes. The mobs in question didn't use any materials/behaviors/functions/models/etc. than the ones that didn't cause the crashes. When the crash happened, all mobs just stopped moving, and then all players were disconnected. 

 

Now that the game and realms have updated to 1.14, the add-on won't load at all in Realms even though it loads perfectly fine in offline worlds (regardless of if the offline world has experimental gameplay enabled/disabled). There are no error messages either–neither online nor offline–so there's nothing to actually look at to fix.

I'm having this issue ALOT on my friend's realm, the first time it happened was when someone died before he joined (dont ask how that happened) and then the realm owner crashed (the switch version is really poorly optimised at the moment) and then everyone disconnected and it rolled us back by about an hour, making me lose the new dogs I got. Ironically enough, it rolled back again another time a few days later in a way that it resurrected a different dog I had lost fighting the skeleton horses of the apocalypse. must have felt sorry for me from last time.

Honestly, it is too little too late. I have canceled my realms subscription. Every update brings multiple and critical issues to realms, and I am absolutely over it. The real issue is there is no beta testing available for realms.

Confirmed. Managed about 3h last night, no crashes.... But then I was stopping every 15min to Download the world... Will try again tomorrow night although stopping constantly... But in the middle of a really big build right now that I don't want to have to redo!

Ok thanks for the feedback - as mentioned earlier we are still working on some crashing issues that are occurring in 1.13. Remember that there is always a slight chance of some rollback when a crash occurs, depending on when the last save was made, but the saving system for when all players leave the Realm is now more robust, thanks to the recent fix.

Played last night for an extended period, logged off and then back on again later and can confirm no rollback.

Even experienced a crash of the client (W10) during the play session and it still logged back in, in the correct position.

Since the bug has been marked "resolved", you should probably open a new ticket.  I believe it was stated that being disconnected could still cause save problems.  This bug was resolved to "fix" save problems unrelated to crashing.  Also, I don't know if they will look at a ticket that is marked "Resolved".

The realm is back to normal. Reading the comments, I guess ticket can be closed and would suggest opening a related one with the mentioned "crashes".

Though we have hardly any info on that and it didn't appear for us, so cannot provide exact time/info to create one.

This started happening for my realm on ~11/9.  Disconnected from server every 1-5 minutes.  lost time issue was occurring on this realm as well.  The disconnecting/crashing is happening more frequently than the lost time was occurring.

The issue on this ticket was resolved, which was Realms failing to force a save upon logging out normally.

 

Anything else should be submitted on an existing ticket for crashing or a new one be created if you can't find one to vote on. I don't think they're monitoring this ticket any longer.

Anyway, devs said on Reddit that they are working on a patch that will be part of 1.13.1 update, and will come "very soon". I think we must wait for this before continue report this problem. They had enough reports on this subject to know that they have to work on.

This is still an issue as of this morning, November 13th. Players on a shared Realm using a variety of devices are all experiencing Realm disconnect and rollback. The rollbacks are going from 5 to 20 minutes back, which is making projects almost impossible to complete. Xbox One version has had update, was this applied to all platforms? Please fix this! Perhaps a reversion to 1.12 is necessary until all features have been corrected?

I’ve no longer been experiencing the rollback, making sure to back out to the main menu on both IOS and win10. 
One of the users on my realm, is on win10 and has experienced it one time in the past week, but none since I made sure to tell him to completely back out of the app before closing.

There are not nearly as many users affected by rollbacks, but we acknowledge this is still happening rarely for some users. Reopening issue.

The roll backs are not nearly as bad as they were right after 1.13 so progress has been made. The only roll backs I’ve seen since this was initially marked as resolved are preceded by a crash of the realm where all online players are kicked and it rolls back about 5-8 mins of progress. So there has been major improvement. These newer rollbacks seem to be connected to crashes of the realm - at least for me

My realm has not experienced any rollbacks since the logout fix but none of us have had any disconnection issues either. I believe the rollbacks that are being reported are due to the realm not saving when all players disconnect.

We've rolled out 3 hotfixes on Realms since 1.13, we are currently running 1.13.3 on Realms servers. The latest hotfix rolled out about 2 hours ago and for every hotfix you should be seeing more stable Realms servers.

Did not save on realm 2 times today playing on Nintendo Switch.  I was building a small bridge went across saw some pillagers went to attack and was disconnected from sever and went back to my last save. Went back did the same exact thing and as soon as I attacked the pillagers again I was disconnected and I was back at my last save again.

I just went to log into my realm on Windows 10 (I play from two different computers, my desktop at home and my laptop when I travel) and we lost about two hours of progress. 5 village houses built, a skeleton farm built, 32 odd diamonds, all gone. We did all of that last night. Anything from 1am to 3am when we got off appears to be lost. So, safe to say I'm a mite pissed. 

 

My game is 1.3.1, Realms seems to be updated. I'm running the Clearcraft texture pack, not that that should matter. Is there a solution for this? I'll rebuild once. I'm not losing all of that shit again because Realms is broken due to this update.

My family (3 of us, Win 10, switch, kindle) have gotten this issue off and on lately.  On 11/23 it was really bad, we were all playing, got the "Disconnected from server" - all at the same time, and lost about 30 minutes of building.  We then continued to play, about 45 minutes, got "Disconnected from server" and lost all progress back to the same exact point.  We run no texture packs/addons, vanilla survival.  This was very disheartening to lose so much progress twice.  Haven't played since.

We are aware this is still happening, but we are seeing it happening much less often than a few weeks ago.

That said, we are working on reducing the number of crashes down in both server and client. We are also working on revamping how we do backups on Realms, so that the Realms service will increase resilience against server crashes.

Note that if your Realm is not saving progress at all at any time, you should reach out to our support so that our support team can take a look on your specific case. Under normal conditions, roll backs should now happen

Ok. Much less often? Lie. Lie, lie, lie. When rollbacks were first an issue in 1.13, my realm experienced ZERO rollbacks. Now however, we are experience 3-4 PER DAY. Due to a recent rollback, which sent us back 1 hour, I lost 2/3 of my resources I got from mining, and another person on our realm got his bamboo farm completely disintegrated. Seriously Mojang, if your realms constantly rollback, then what's even the point of buying realms? At least test your updates! I see that you're testing tge rollback fix, but I don't see you testing 1.13!!! Please, just test your updates as a whole next time before releasing them, thanks.

Getting a realm crash everyday now. At two a day now. Only 30 mins lost inbeween autosaves. All crashes and save errors and rollbacks had clearcraft mod and I was somewhere close too a pilliger patrol. Maby that program that is the patrol is grabbing your save data  when close enough . If you let them get away your next save exit will load you back in before you crossed paths with the pilliger patrol. There directly connected?. Just trying too give a little info. I'm still having issues

We are experiencing frequent Realm crashes and rollbacks while playing on two player Realm. Play for a while and then Realm disconnects; we load back in and have been rolled back to where we started. Friday evening 12/6 and today it's impossible to play. When will this be fixed?

As of this morning, the crashing issue is somehow even worse. We are unable to be in the Realm for more than 10 minutes before a crash and rollback. Realms are UNPLAYABLE currently. Maybe get this one to the top of the stack, before subs start being dropped!

For all those who encounter some crash problems, I think that something at one time caused a corruption of our  worlds and made this irreversible. I opened a new Realm with a new World just after the beginning of the crash issues, and I had no more problems with it. However, my old realm with the old world is still crashing despite all updates and fixes...

The crashing and rollback is getting ridiculous. My realm members and i are getting super frustrated. We have multiple crashes a day and some rolling back an hour. For something we pay good money for this should not be happening. This issue keeps popping up. It use to happen months a go but after this bee update its almost impossible to play in our Realm..

I hope we get some kind of compensation for the inconvenience I'm not happy at all.

Update. We cant play on our realm anymore. we just keep getting kicked out. I thought of downloading the world from the Realm and try just playing it from the computer and i cant even do that,

As far as this bug is concerned, I'm having the same issue. Funny enough, if I download the realm and play a local copy I have the same issue as Greg. The realm is only 1.1GB.

Our realm has gone from barely playable to unplayable. I logged in 4 times this morning, and was the only person online. I sat still and interacted with nothing, and after 13-15 minutes got disconnected from server every time.

My realm is no longer playable in any way. It went from crashing a couple times a week about two weeks ago to crashing a couple times a day last week, to crashing several times a day this week, to just being offline entirely yesterday (nobody was able to join the realm). Interestingly, I was able to bring it back online by closing and reopening the realm (under subscription) which has (temporarily) fixed some realms issues in the past. Once back online, though, a few of my members logged in and it crashed again in minutes.

This morning I'm able to log on again as nobody else is even trying to get online anymore, but the performance was very bad and stuttery. Within 5 minutes, objects such as chests and furnaces were no longer able to be interacted with, and chunks surrounding the area I'm in will not load, so I've obviously lost connection. After a few more minutes, I've disconnected. Every one of these disconnections leads to a rollback. This is an emergency issue at this point.

I think we're dealing with two different issues here:

  1. We have seen an increase in crashes on Realms since 1.13 and have been working to bring those down. In relation to this, roll backs are happening and we are taking measures to reduce roll backs whenever the server crashes.

  2. There also seem to be an increasing issue where individual Realms gets into an unplayable state where the Realm is simply not playable anymore. For everyone that has a Realm that is pretty much unplayable, we need to look at your individual Realms. As this is an open bug tracker and you shouldn't post your personal info here, I need you to go to https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/requests/new and create a support ticket. Don't forget to include your Gamertag and Realm name in the ticket. To speed things up, you can then DM me your ticket number on Twitter, https://twitter.com/_b4njo. This is not normally the process, but for this one time I want to be able to get some Realms quickly to investigate.

i just had a 6 hour rollback on one of my realms.

The increasing number of massive issues with realms, including crashes, rollbacks, people falling through the world, missing chunks. Someone needs to get on this stuff, this is a paid service, and its utterly worthless. Its only getting worse every update:/

This issue has become progressively worse the longer it goes on and I'm incredibly concerned for both the server I'm playing on and the server owner who is powerless in this position to help. This entire issue has been incredibly stressful to say in the least and now if members even can get onto the realm, it's not for more than five minutes at a time. 
When 1.13 came out we were all excited for foxes and patches and hopefully a fix to end issues that are still a huge problem, but it's only brought even more issues and now the server isn't playable. 
We noticed first the increased rate of spawn for pillagers and how annoying it was that we see them literally everywhere now while trying to work, but it started with switch users looking at them and causing the whole realm to crash and slight rollback.
Then, it turned into interacting with them for all users caused a crash and rollback. 
Since discovering that we'd dictated to let them alone and let them head away or to just thorns them, but this doesn't always work. 
And NOW, with the bees update, which we also were praying for heavy fixes amongst excitement to see our fuzzy new friends, there's even more chaos. Why send in another big update when the game still suffers heavy performance issues from the last?
We thought maybe finding trigger objects would help such as the pillagers and discovered bee hives themself were causing a shutdown, but it's gotten more random and worse since then. 
For a couple of hours we'd be playing and after a short while the realm would stop functioning, we'd wait 10-15 minutes for it to be playable again, and then we'd see half an hour to an hour worth of rollback. This is incredibly discouraging for our new members who make their base in that time and then see all their work gone, then to rinse and repeat. 
Then it started getting worse yet again up to the point that now we're either unable to join the realm in our server or when we do join the realm is on a huge lag (even with one person on) and we're not able to even play for all of five minutes without it going down. Each time with a rollback still. 
I know you all are hard at work but this is getting increasingly severe and it's disheartening to not really see much answer on what's going on other than stating obvious. 
This matter is serious and I think it's ridiculous the realm owner is paying to have the realm open when no one can even get on to play it. I'm trying to be patient and I understand this issue is major, but I just hope that it's currently priority #1 and some insight as to what's going on and why this is/has gotten so bad.

A Few comments above you can see where i post about my realm crashing and even the world alone crashing just on my computer. (no realm)

On Friday the 13th one of my members texted me and told me the realm collapsed on itself.

I feel like the crashes are corrupting the realm and world data. 

I had to go through 16 hours of backups to find before this happen.. after spending a day of redoing things just to have the realm crash and rollback then rebuild again.

then have to tell your members you have to reset the realm back 15 hours is something i never should have had to do...

I own 3 realms that i pay for and this is unacceptable, I'm feeling taken advantage of. there is no talk of a refund or free realm time given as a credit..

At 7:10pm EST on 12/15/2019 my Realm froze. I could move around but all mobs were standing still. I exited the realm and rejoined and was rolled back by about 15-20 minutes worth of work.

This has to be at least the tenth time since the 1.14 update for bedrock that the realm I'm in has crashed. We all have lost so much work, had to resort on going back 15 hours because the realm started to reset itself. Its getting really annoying at this point. People pay and spend time to make the realms available, this needs to get fixed immediately

As for now there are three points, that really suck:

  1. The corrupted, unplayable realms (really annoying and frustrating) 

  2. The uncertainty, that these realms will be proper recoverable (potentially lost work, time and memories ...)

  3. And foremost the absolutely inadequate communication of Mojang (come on guys, we are paying for this. Your absence of further information leaves room for heavy speculation. More and more players are getting frustrated. We need more information! Do you have any clue for the core of the problem or are you still searching? Can we expect to play again this year or should we plan otherwise? Please give us more feedback on the status!)

For those of us who have a realm stuck in an unplayable state, it seems as if this is tied to MCPE-32501 - meaning, our actual world file is a problem now whether it's uploaded to a realm or not. I'm not sure if this was caused by the continuous crashing or the update or what, but we are now getting the same error as people on 32501 which has been open without a fix for a year and a half.

One interesting thing to note:
When I downloaded my broken realm world and opened it, I got two error messages in succession, both with the pink and black checkered background. First I was told something like "missing or corrupt skin!" and after that I was given the "you are out of storage space" message.

I did a little testing trying to create a new world with the same seed and files from my current world. Every time I would try to load up the new world, it would either just crash, or it would give me an error about missing skins or textures (and then crash). I'm wondering if something about the recent update somehow changed the way certain textures are accessed and it's resulting in a crash.

A second interesting thing to note:
My realm has been unplayable for about 3 days now. I was under the impression that backups are mainly created while people are playing. My realm is creating backups still even though nobody is able to play. Even more interesting, the backups are changing in size each time. They range from around 1770MB to 1793MB. So I'll have something like this
Backup 1: 1770 MB
Backup 2: 1776 MB
Backup 3: 1789 MB
Backup 4: 1770 MB
I'm not sure if this is normal, as I've never needed to monitor my backups so closely in the past, but it seems strange. Why would the file size fluctuate if nothing in the world is changing?

I have had this issue 3 times in total over the last 5 months. 

 

Strangely only affects me and not the other players but will only happen if I play in my own seems to roll back when I connected on my phone in the morning after an evening of play on my laptop.

Adam the request for reaching out to support is for if the realm is in an unplayable state, not when being rolled back.

My realm had another roll back over the weekend. Was on the realm with the realm owner. We both received disconnection messages. When we logged back in we lost 30-40 minutes of progress.

Yeah problem with cancelling is, they've locked down the server function for XBox and Switch, so we have no choice but to keep paying for this barely functional "service".

There seems to be a correlation between backups and realm crashes. For our realm the freeze/crash occurs immediately following a backup.

New to realms and experiencing this as well.  Sister noticed her progress wasn't saving after rejoining server.  I joined and was missing inventory and some changes I made to the world were gone.  Not sure whether a crash caused this, but we have had the realm stop responding before.. and in our desperation we forced a world restore and even accidentally paid for a totally new realm.

EDIT: Can confirm I am losing my nightly progress when joining again the next day.  It appears the automatic backups that occurred after I signed off reverted to a very old state, as if the world itself reverted within an hour or so after I signed off.  I was able to restore a backup around the time I got off and thankfully retained most of my progress from the night before.

Mojang give us a damn tool please; i’ve been able to work around this by downloading the world.
in our case 4.3gb and clearing out entity data manually to reupload a ‘patched’ file.

If Mojang could give realm owners a tool/button to ‘clear/optimize’ the realm without wasting all of our time (and your server resources) that should be a goal #1.

Tracking and debugging your codebase for the last year you keep dropping the ball on spawning and storing entity data.

Overall we all signed up for this; choosing to go rolling release cycles on paid subscriptions.

That is what kills me nowhere else would the player base take the abuse as hard as us.

Front page this as known a known issue; get ahead of the class action building every time a new person or the continued old keep reporting your issues and your fixes and solutions are making it worse.

You have never as a company accepted that old realms and large are the underlying issue.

Change the spawn algorithm to just despawn like mad when it detects a cap instead of letting the leaky code keep breaking it give us a hacky patch.

Like how hard would it be for the realm/server to start kicking out error states in the chat if detected; your giving us nothing to solve it other than a thread to pile on.

Hopefully these ideas resonate and someone sees this comment and takes action. I have loads of private feedback to give too.

Like one trick right now is to trick the crashed realm with wire shark and sending old client connect strings. Your code is buggy. 14.2 was golden and in two weeks of fun you guys locked us to a worse codebase 14.3.

Give us owners a tool to downgrade/rollback and lock realms to older versions when we experience builds this broken !!!!

Today we deployed another big hotfix to only Realms, which has a lot of fixes to crashing and roll backs. It should also help preventing any more Realms to get into a bad stage. This update is rolling out seamlessly to all Realms and there is no client update to download for this.

We are eager to hear if this solves all of your issues. It my take a while to take affect, so please let us know in the coming weeks if your experience is getting better.

Don't think your gunnna get the lost progress. There are some work arounds to make saves with a phone account. It used to be worce. Now you don't loose as much progress.

This issue doesn't seem to be completely fixed in the latest version. From my observations, this issue is caused by chunks unloading and reloading. For my case, this issue occurs when I go from one dimension to another. Normally when this issue occurs, the loading screen while going to the other dimension would be stuck in "Building Terrain" for a long time. This issue doesn't seem to affect player's inventory. Also, this issue occurs when the Realm is slow, like the TPS would increase. Opening chests would take longer etc...
